I threw C-SPAN on for background noise this afternoon while I watched the first snowstorm of the season out the window. When I wasn’t admiring the highlights in Barbara Boxer’s hair I was jarred to see the guilty faces of Sens. Larry Craig and David Vitter on my teevee. It has a hearing of the Environmental & Public Works Committee…and the Republicans were represented by petty criminals. I kept waiting for the vice cops to bust in and break up the proceedings. And that is a metaphor for the entire Republican revolution. It’s leaders are gone…most of them anyway…and, yet, the Bush administration churns on, grinding up everything in its path.
The list of the vanquished is long: Tony Blair, Silvio Berlusconi, José María Aznar, John Howard, Bill Frist, Dennis Hastert, Tom DeLay, Rick Santorum, George Allen, Conrad Burns, Colin Powell, George Tenet, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, Richard Armitage, Duke Cunningham, Robert Ney, Larry Franklin, Alberto Gonzales, Rick Renzi, Richard Pombo, Mike DeWine, Jim Talent, Trent Lott, J.D. Hayworth, Wayne Allard, John Warner, Pete Domenici, Barbara Cubin, John Rowland, George Ryan, Scooter Libby, Don Sherwood, Katherine Harris, Jerry Weller, Ernie Fletcher, Bob Taft, Bill Janklow, Mark Foley, David Safavian.
Maybe we’ll feel better if we just compile a list of the various Republicans that have lost their power during the Bush years.
Who did I forget?
Hate to be a wet blanket, but Wolfowitz is an advisor to C. Rice and Colin Powell has been talking to both the Clinton and Obama teams.
But certainly the bad guys are on the defensive.
Rehiring Wolfowitz given that he was ousted as head of World Bank and completely wrong about Iraq takes a lot of gall doesn’t it except bush wouldn’t know gall if it bit him on the nose. The circle-jerk of cronies just goes round and round stopping only at tried and true made men and women.
Probably more efficient to just check off those that haven’t been caught yet. Also easier on the gag reflexes.
you forgot rove…for shame.
too bad only three of them, ney, cunningham, and safavian have done, are doing, jail time.
scooter should be…but chimpy and darth fixed that.
the rest of them still have relatively free access to the halls of power, the msm, and cushy positions in one way or another.
just because they’re not in office doesn’t mean they’re powerless, imo, just lurking behind the scenes.
lTMF’sA
John Bolton.
and there is a whole bunch of economic bad guys who are about to lose power.
Curt Weldon.
Does Harriet Miers count?
Indeed she does.
Right you are — and do we have anyone to replace them who shows the slightest capacity to lead this country in a realistic direction off its high horse, away from empire, and toward renewed citizen participation, ingenuity, and global sustainability?
Was that a pin I heard dropping??
Sorry. That just came leaking out.
well you really have to include jack abramoff in this list, i’d put him in the top 10-15 criminal list of the decade. and speaking of old jack, what ever happened to all those investigations anyways? i would’ve expected a lot more indictments by now.
and former Deputy Secr. of Interior steve griles who i really appreciated seeing resign back in 2004
I’m still seeing John Bolton spewing on CNN. But there is one face I hope to never see again – Karen Hughes.
At some point we’ll be able to say that Karl Rove is gone forever, but when?
I can’t wait to add Wolf Blitzer to my list. It’s the media that need to come crashing down.
Here’s a little historical perspective that will cheer you up.
There is also my wingnut neighbor, the one with 50 guns and a hotline to Rush Limbaugh. The fall of so many prominent Republican criminals has shut him up for a change. I’m sure there are many such small potato wingnuts who are likewise putting a sock in it these days. That ain’t nothin’. 😉
I guess we can’t forget about:
calvin strongly believes that this list has to extend outward to include all republick criminals around the country. For example, the newly elected National Young Republick Chairman who was accused of performing an oral sex act on an unsuspecting male who was sleeping when the attack occurred.
calvin has read about republick miscreants around the country and their lurid tales involving sex, drugs, graft and corruption. Let’s not forget all the players, for example, involved in railroading the AL governor.
There are stories galore. They need to be collected and disseminated widely.
I sure wish to hell Duncan Hunter was on that list. Jeez, and I’m sure with whoever said Karen Hughes as well.
I sure wouldn’t mind seeing the last of Christopher R. Hill and James A. Kelly either. And I seriously wonder what’s going on with Matthew Bryza, whether the guy is incompetent, a party/Bush hack or what.
Pax
Duncan Hunter is on the list. He’s not running for reelection. His son is.
Rummy.
I might have missed it, but Ashcroft.
