Heh. Just wanting to poke one with my needles, more like. 🙂
I’m ready for an arctic blast this week, although we could skip the inch thick layer of ice. My allergies are sick of this playing around at the start of winter.
I’ve never tried that, although I’ve heard of it. Do you have one of those little neti pots? Does it really help with the dry air in winter? How often do you do it?
I use the neilmed sinus rinse which is what the ENT doc recommended after I had my polyps removed. I use it once a day, all year round. It really helps with both dry air and humidity. I especially helps with getting the snot out. 🙂
I began using a neti pot about a month ago and it’s great….though kinda takes some getting used to. And occasionally, several hours later, a little rush of water will pour out of my nose unexpectedly that had been hiding in a little pocket of my sinus. One time I had my head cocked to one side reading the spines of the books at Goodwill and it happened. Good thing it was Goodwill where no one notices things like that.
Right now I’m trying to complain, given the ice storms that went north of us and the oodles of snow (Olivia has something like 3 feet) that has stayed north.
Nope. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and that was enough for me. Now that all my kids are down here I suspect I won’t make it back up there very often.
I’m loving it and don’t want it to end. I really thought I’d miss snow at least a little bit, but I don’t. How are you and George? Got the Speedos out yet?
I’d like at least a little snow even if it didn’t stick to the ground. Ideally we’d get a foot so I wouldn’t have to see all the leaves on the lawn that need picking up. And nope George and I are still fully clothed. Well George is fully furred. 😛
I assume you’ve had your coffee by now and are in fine fettle.
The rain is supposed to stop today and then no precip till Saturday when there’s a chance of snow but after all this rain, Brown County could definitely host the International BT Mud Wrestling Championship.
I’ve been researching mud wrestling, and I think it was invented up in Canada for that one week when it’s nice weather. You know celebrate the earth thing, and “my god, it actually nice outside, what do we do?” 😛
It’s too dark here to tell, but I imagine my day will look much like the picture up top. We’re supposed to get our freezy stuff today. Perfect work weather. Which is a good thing, since I don’t want to work very much during the holiday week.
I have to finish my shopping too.
Andi, I have a dumb question: my photos on an external drive and want to move them back onto my laptop. Do I just drag and drop them from one to the other? Do I do the same thing with my itunes music folder? I’ve been putting this off, but need some of the stuff in those files for Christmas presents.
What I said might about itunes not work. I just tried it pointing to the music folder on Jim’s system and it didn’t work. Try it and see what happens and if it doesn’t work, let me know — I know another (more complicated) way to do it.
CBtY wants XBox for Christmas, and thinks he deserves it for being on honor roll. We had made a deal at the beginning of the school year that being on honor roll all year would earn him a big reward that had the added bonus of being able to be used for homework (that extra laptop we’ve been needing). A few weeks ago, he decided that he should get XBox instead, even though I never agreed to it…we have enough video game crap around here, and I think the games for that tend to be an even bigger and more vile waste of time than what we already have.
So now CBtY wants to make this about “you reneged”, when he changed the terms of our agreement midstream, and he’s pissed that he can’t manipulate me on this one. I think kids should play outside and read books and stuff, not spend their lives in front of an LCD screen. So I have someone who’s angry with me about something I won’t budge on.
Guilt trips are under appreciated and are almost an art form. Children are usually experts at these, but the secret is to turn it around on them. Each one is unique, so you have to do some thinking about it.
FMom’s standard saying was, “One day I won’t be here.” I used to counter by telling her, “Yes one day you won’t, but just remember me in the will.”
This parenting thing is hard wurk sometimes. Yep you’re certainly right there. 🙂
Winter is so screwed up! I’ve got the AC on because the inside temp says almost 80. We’re supposed to plunge back into the 20’s for lows starting Sat. morning. I’m ready.
We finally got Andi out of dial-up. I can see we now have to work on you. Although as you pointed out, I guess dial-up does have some advantages. But that is the only one I can think of. 🙂
That’s basically our forecast for tonight through Saturday. Yuck. And of course, Jim is disappointed because it’s the weekend and so there’s no chance for a snow day.
Luckily I’ve only got George, and he’s not that much to clean up. Plus I can’t get him out on wet grass, so I’m sure mud would be out of the question for him.
I’m too lazy to live up north again. All of that work and prep time just to go somewhere – from finding boots, gloves, coat to scraping off and warming up the car. I don’t miss it.
I will be after about 10-11 am today. I’ve got to go and stock up on groceries first, and then I want snow! 🙂
Unfortunately though, we’re supposed to have heavy thunderstorms this pm. So FMom will be scurrying all around the house thinking she can miss a tree falling or a thunderbolt.
My mom hates storms too. When we were kids and had an old house with a huge boiler in the basement, she would go stand behind during big storms. We, of course, all made fun of her for it.
Yep when we were kids, FMom in her wisdom would put us in the car and drive up and down the dirt roads. Or she would put all of us under a bed and sit on top of it. Never understood either one of those.
They’ve lowered the total accumulation for us. Still a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. I’m hoping they’re absolutely wrong on the freezing rain.
It certainly looks inviting there, compared to our current snowy situation. I can’t explain why I felt the need to move back north after 14 years in the Caribbean and south Florida. Guess it was some sort of homing instinct, back to the place of my childhood. I could never feel quite right about planting the garden in Feb.
I meant to put this new cafe up last night, but I fell asleep…sorry!
How is everyone this morning?
Morning CG.
It looks like that in my back yard.
I dropped by real fast last night before I went to sleep and I thought I read you were knitting a wrestler. 😉
Heh. Just wanting to poke one with my needles, more like. 🙂
I’m ready for an arctic blast this week, although we could skip the inch thick layer of ice. My allergies are sick of this playing around at the start of winter.
I hope FMom’s doctor visit goes well today.
Have you ever tried using a nasal rinse. Jim and I both are convinced they are nothing short of miraculous.

that happens to me too — Sniff really likes it when it happens while we’re snuggling. Apparently, snot water is the best thing ever.
Thanks for that. I think I might skip breakfast now.
with your daily calorie count, my day can be counted as a success.
But, unfortunately, that won’t get me paid. Gotta go be a worker bee.
Ta.
Ah…….yeah thanks Andi.
I’ve got to get going too and get ready for the Drs. appt.
Everyone have a good day.
Ick.
Hmm, that looks like it would be readily avaiable at my local drugstore. I think I’ll try that.
We’re supposed to get rain tomorrow and then it will turn cooler. I guess I’ve been lucky in that I don’t really have any bad allergies.
Thanks for the well wishes on FMom.
It looks nothing like that where I am. The sky is blue, the birds are singing and it feels like April. Of course Saturday the high is only 40….
It’s looked like that here since Friday but there are rumors of sunshine this coming Friday.
(I have plenty of birds singing since I have two feeders and a suet block on the south side of the house.)
Those rumors of sunshine that never seem to materialize drove me out of Cleveland. I swear there were several winters that I almost killed myself.
Right now I’m trying to complain, given the ice storms that went north of us and the oodles of snow (Olivia has something like 3 feet) that has stayed north.
Got your Xmas plans under control?
Go ahead, rub it in. I’ll remember this next spring when you’re melting in the heat and I’m not. 🙂
I take it you’re not going to Cleveland for the holidays.
Nope. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and that was enough for me. Now that all my kids are down here I suspect I won’t make it back up there very often.
It’s a little foggy down here, but pretty much like where you’re at. Even if it’s warmer than usual, I’m enjoying it because it’s better than summer.
Good morning all. Rainy today, snow tomorrow. Is it still winter?
it’s still raining. Now there’s a surprise.
Wet morning/afternoon/evening.
I’m in a terrible need of coffee this morning.
We’re supposed to get our rain on Sat and the temp starts to fall too.
I assume you’ve had your coffee by now and are in fine fettle.
The rain is supposed to stop today and then no precip till Saturday when there’s a chance of snow but after all this rain, Brown County could definitely host the International BT Mud Wrestling Championship.
Just getting through with the first cup.
We haven’t had a good Mud Wrestling Championship in awhile. Yep I remember the good old days……
Then again, if ya’ll gang up on me like times of old, I’ll just be a fan on the sidelines. 🙂
It’s too early in the morning to gang up on anyone — way too much trouble. So I think you’re safe.
Well I got to thinking about it, and the ganging up is all right. I love mud too much. 😉
Doesn’t that just look lovely…NOT. Must be a southern thing.
How did the doctor’s go yesterday? Did he fix up FMom?
Morning CG.
I never mud wrestled until I came to the cafe. Actually I’m just a poor Southern boy who got dragged into it. Hah!
I think the doctor fixed her up yesterday. He prescribed a different asthma med for her and it seems to be working.
… just a poor Southern boy who got dragged into it.
Nice. Try.
😛
Hi Olivia.
I’ve been researching mud wrestling, and I think it was invented up in Canada for that one week when it’s nice weather. You know celebrate the earth thing, and “my god, it actually nice outside, what do we do?” 😛

The pictures yes. On the itunes, you copy the music files and then you have to go into Preferences/Advanced and change the location.
And will that automatically combine the old iTunes library with the new stuff I uploaded onto the laptop since my hard drive failure?
See my additional comment below — I’m not sure I’m right.
What I said might about itunes not work. I just tried it pointing to the music folder on Jim’s system and it didn’t work. Try it and see what happens and if it doesn’t work, let me know — I know another (more complicated) way to do it.
I’m going to try a little later this morning…ned to get CBtE off to school now. Can I email you if I have a problem?
Yep.
CBtY wants XBox for Christmas, and thinks he deserves it for being on honor roll. We had made a deal at the beginning of the school year that being on honor roll all year would earn him a big reward that had the added bonus of being able to be used for homework (that extra laptop we’ve been needing). Well, I got the “It’s less expensive than Outward Bound” line of attack this morning, followed by “Screw getting honor roll anyway”. Big fun.
Ack! Snow, snow, snow! I’m leaving work at noon! BTW, good morning all!
Yay for snow!
We have freezing rain/ice. Wonder how long the power is going to last…and if the kids will get home from school okay.
I hope that your power holds. Our schools never opened.
Ditto on the power CG. It sucks to have the power out anyway, but when it’s freezing outside, well it just sucks even more.
Morning Boran.
Winter is so screwed up! I’ve got the AC on because the inside temp says almost 80. We’re supposed to plunge back into the 20’s for lows starting Sat. morning. I’m ready.
Morning, FM! A 60 degree drop, in a couple days sounds pretty crazy. Stay warm, umm, cool…stay comfortable!
I probably won’t notice most of it. I’ll be in my usual sleep/nap mode. 🙂
If it gets really bad up there and the power is still on, do a little blogging to let us know how you are.
With my dial-up, I’m good even if the power goes out. As long as the laptop battery holds out. 😉
We finally got Andi out of dial-up. I can see we now have to work on you. Although as you pointed out, I guess dial-up does have some advantages. But that is the only one I can think of. 🙂
We have sleet and snow in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday. I’m ready for the snow but I’ll be happy if they’re wrong about the sleet.
Good morning, Andi!
Moss and dead leaves, year coming to a close.
Good morning to you, ask.
Did you get snow yesterday? The folks at my company (which is north of Boston) all went home early yesterday.
We got a bit of mess. Freezing rain, hail, sleet and snow – all in a mix.
That’s basically our forecast for tonight through Saturday. Yuck. And of course, Jim is disappointed because it’s the weekend and so there’s no chance for a snow day.
We got the mix here too, and have a similar forecast for Sunday. I’m hoping they’re wrong, because I want to go to my yoga class on Sunday…
Good morning Andi and Ask.
Over slept this morning – need coffee.
Good morning, FM!
Coffee coming up (curly is calling for the same).
I see y’all had some rather bad weather yesterday. How’s it looking for today?
A bit brighter today, but more mess expected on Sunday, I think.
After oversleeping so badly, are you skipping the day’s first nap?
Oversleeping has thrown me off my routine a little. If I skipped a nap, that would totally throw me off. 😉
I don’t think you can call it oversleeping when it’s still before 6 a.m.
I usually like getting up about and hour or so before now. When I sleep past that, I feel like I’m rushed for some reason.
How’s the land of mud this morning?
Still very much here — the combination of muddy world, 3 dogs, and wood floors is not a pretty thing.
The wood floors are a plus though. Imagine if it were carpet they were tracking up.
Unfortunately it’s not very far from the door to the oriental rug but with a bit of traffic control I can usual get them before they get there.
Luckily I’ve only got George, and he’s not that much to clean up. Plus I can’t get him out on wet grass, so I’m sure mud would be out of the question for him.
I didn’t think it was possible for retired people to oversleep. And you had me beat by two hours – three if you count the time zone change.
Wait a minute – I guess the time change goes in my favor. Must have coffee to engage brain before speaking.
Just because I’m retired doesn’t mean I’m not moving all the time and busy. Hah who am I kidding. 🙂
yep, moving and busy. Is that moss I see growing on your your north side? 🙂
Can’t be. Don’t you have to be outside for that to grow. 😛
Ah, you’re here — time to handoff the baton so I can “go to work”.
Hi. Bye.
We overslept too – I had to drive CBtY tp school because he missed th bus…after scraping all the ice off the car.
Luckily, just turning the car on and warming it up while everybody got dressed did most of the work for me. 🙂
We’re Christmas shopping and having lunch in the city today, I think. Just have to tweak the end of my paper and send it in this morning.
Morning CG.
I think I remember having to scrape ice off the car back in the 90s sometime. 😉
At least it wasn’t a foot of snow this morning.
Yep I can rub it in now, but come this summer I’ll be the one crying.
We get the hot and humid stuff here too, so it seems like I never get to return the favor of weather gloating to you…have a great day.
I’m too lazy to live up north again. All of that work and prep time just to go somewhere – from finding boots, gloves, coat to scraping off and warming up the car. I don’t miss it.
Morning CG.
Heh. I skip the prep time and just stay home. 🙂
It’s actually supposed to be warm (mid-40s) and sunny today, then get cold tonight, and Noreaster on Sunday.
George is already whining to go out. Gotta go.
Everyone have a good day.
Have a good warm day, while we suffer here in the ice kingdom! 😉
Need to use that word of the year so I can show that I’m a hip geezer. 😉
It looks like I’ll be spending most of it inside if the ugly forecast of sleet, snow, and freezing rain holds.
Morning Andi.
Even without using the word w00t, you’re a hip geezer.
At least us youngster think so. 😉 w00t!
are you jealous? 🙂

I think I saw that they’ve downgraded our big noreaster prediction for tomorrow to possible snow. Sounds good to me.
Morning CG.
Where’s the excitement with just snow. Get that noreaster back.
They’ve lowered the total accumulation for us. Still a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. I’m hoping they’re absolutely wrong on the freezing rain.
We’re down to snow tonight, changing over to rain before morning. Lots o’ rain tomorrow.
Which, although sucky, would be better than ice.
Anything is better than ice. We’ve got a little over 2″ so far and the radar shows the sleet/freezing rain is staying to the south of us (so far).
The dogs think it would be swell to go put some paw prints in that pristine snow. Time to start the day.
See ya.
of the pristine state?
Gotta get ready to go into the city and get groceries.
Everyone have a good weekend.
A snow globe! Purty.
Yes it is. And that’s just the way I want to stay. I want the freezing rain to stay far, far away.
Morning ma’am.
‘morning all. The big snow watch is on. Let the panic shopping begin.
How much are you supposed to get? We could be anywhere from 2-9 inches, depending on what happens with the sleet/freezing rain.
Good morning Andi. It keeps changing but is supposed to be several(?) inches.
Good morning all! Love the “snow globe” Andi. There appears to be a couple of inches on the ground here so far and still coming. No ice yet though:-)
Yup, I’d say we’ve got a bit over 2″. The ice is down along the Ohio river and I sure hope it stays there.
Well, I’m going go out and enjoy the snow globe effect up close. Ta.
a nice warm web-cam here:
http://www.mardelplatawebcam.com.ar/
It’s summer in some places…why not here.
