I think that it’s really really interesting that the advertisement emphasizes Obama’s opposition to the gas tax holiday. This campaign really does seem to believe that an appeal to the better angels of our nature will work. They are betting that people will appreciate being treated as adults, rather than children.
I don’t know whether this is a good decision or not, but I have to admire them for trying.
That’s one of those points I just cannot understand someone failing to grasp with just a little reflection — just step back for a second and think about it. I just wanna scream, “Clinton’s FULL of it, people!”
I actually think he’s right to go on that, but he’s doing it in too-nice away. The ads need to slam McCain and Clinton as Washington frauds, and they need to say, “This will do nothing but leave more bridges and roads to collapse. Hillary and McCain want more Twin Cities disasters on our hands.”
True, but you don’t have to be persuaded. The undecideds in North Carolina could be spooked by the angry Black man on their TV if he went at it too aggressively.
I’ll go one better on ya: The NYT/CBS poll now has Obama up 51-40% over McCain and 50-38% over Clinton. Apparently there was a big turnaround after the Wright denunciation.
As of 10 p.m., the State Board of Elections reports receiving 466,396 ballots at one-stop voting sites, which closed Saturday afternoon. Another 22,181 mailed in ballots.
That’s 8.4 percent turnout so far.
To put that in context, turnout in the 2004 presidential primary was 16 percent, so we’re already more than halfway towards that number and it’s not even Election Day yet.
I always consult the I Ching at tarot.com about the future. Their copyrighted reading about Obama on Tuesday says:
11 Harmony Earth stands above heaven and heaven seems to be on earth. The gravity of matter merges with the upward radiation of the light to merge in a deep harmony. This juxtaposition denotes a time of peace and blessings for all living things. In the affairs of men, tranquility comes when the good, strong and powerful show favor to the lowly, and those of more modest means are well disposed towards those who are currently blessed. There is an end to all feuds. In such a state, energy is high, the way clear, and the prospects for great success outstanding.
It goes on to talk about coordinating action with natural cycles to create peace and prosperity. I took that as a positive message.
Sorry, I can’t agree that the man is too nice. After two terms of Cheney/bush and a campaign against media favorites Clinton and McCain, we will all be ready to form a civil nation and a more perfect union.
I wonder if we can arrange an Anonymous-style protest? Have a bunch of people go into a McCain rally, then all hold out salt shakers when he goes around shaking hands.
I’m just LMBAO at the Faux news with Chris “I’ll never be as good as my old man” Wallace on the C-span yak-yak re-broadcast.
They are so proud of themselves that Democrats have been guests on their program–it’s like Look, I did it!. I mean, that’s what a wee one says after she goes to potty.
It’s funny. They reveal a complex through their “crowing.” They seem almost stung by Move On and Kos. I mean, what serious network or news program does this kind of navel-gazing? “See, we’re RELEVANT.“
This is Tweety territory.
Aww…they need a hug. But all they’ll get is a swift kick.
Well, to be fair, people do actually watch Wallace’s awful show. Nobody watches Tweety’s awful show anymore, which is why he keeps threatening people in Penn with a Senate run.
Yeah, but hearing Wallace go on and on about how they finally got Democrats on the show was just so pathetic. And funny, too. I almost felt sorry for him.
It’s like Tweety in that NYT Magazine profile. They both just seemed so…needy.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign has a secret weapon to build its delegate count, but her top strategists say privately that any attempt to deploy it would require a sharp (and by no means inevitable) shift in the political climate within Democratic circles by the end of this month.
With at least 50 percent of the Democratic Party’s 30-member Rules and Bylaws Committee committed to Clinton, her backers could — when the committee meets at the end of this month — try to ram through a decision to seat the disputed 210-member Florida and 156-member Michigan delegations. Such a decision would give Clinton an estimated 55 or more delegates than Obama, according to Clinton campaign operatives.
I think that is just more stupidity for the corporate media to waste everyone’s time with…Howard Dean would have to go along with it for it to work, and we know how much he and the Clintons love each other-NOT.
I thought the Credentials Committee seated the delegates, and that both committees drew their representation proportionately between those candidates still in the race?
You’re right. They must be running out of things to say.
l really hate to change the subject…but…l just received this gem from a friend:
US-backed plan sees shiny future for embattled Green Zone
BAGHDAD (AP) – Forget the rocket attacks, concrete blast walls and lack of a sewer system. Now try to imagine luxury hotels, a shopping center and even condos in the heart of Baghdad.
That’s all part of a five-year development “dream list” – or what some dub an improbable fantasy – to transform the U.S.-protected Green Zone from a walled fortress into a centerpiece for Baghdad’s future.
But the $5 billion plan has the backing of the Pentagon and apparently the interest of some deep pockets in the world of international hotels and development, the lead military liaison for the project told The Associated Press.

And if gasoline taxes go away, how will we take care of our crumbling infrastructure?

There’s a new gas tax ad out that is much, much stronger. Saw it on dKos.
It was on TPM
Yeah, I saw it. Still not hard-hitting enough for me, but it was much better.

Gallup has Obama up among Democratic voters, retaking the lead.
Zogby, whose reputation has taken a hit, has Obama’s lead in NC holding and while deadlocked in Indiana 43-41%

yay.
And people aren’t yet focused on McCain’s Pastor-

and how about McCain’s radical
so ya know, when people start throwing stones this GE campaign, you think McCain won’t have to denounce and reject?
Agree, very positive. So is the gas tax ad, the best. Link below.
