The man can draw a CROWD!!!

He says some things, too.

Like this:

“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,” Obama said.

“That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen,” he added.

HOO boy!!!

He’s feelin’ it now!!!

We are at a crux point.

A change point.

Is it time for a quantum leap in the American consciousness? One that will NOT be supported by large portions of the MSM?

We shall soon see.

That’s some plain talk he’s talking.

As plain as that of Reverend Wright, although phrased more gently in the interests of broader consumption and easier digestion.

The last time I heard anything real from him on that level was about eight months ago (Longer?) when he addressed a group of Detroit auto execs and took them to task for not building better automobiles instead of whining about increased competition from Japan and Korea.

I thought then that such direct talk would finish his campaign.

I was wrong. It did not.

Read on for my take on how to get him the hell into the White House.
For those of you who wonder why I am so insistent on the inclusion of HRC on the ticket…I still think that this potential rebirth needs all the help that it can get. The opposition that we saw to the Gore and Small K kerry campaigns will pale in comparison to what is laid down against Senator Obama.

Why?

Because compared to him they are both, to put it plainly, incompetent putzes as politicians. Plus, they were…and remain…mainstream “Go along to get along”-type Dems. Or am I just repeating myself?

If I had heard a single sentence from either of them that rivaled the quote above I would have fallen to the floor in a swoon of amazement. Instead we got “Lieutenant Kerry, reporting for duty” and “I invented the internets”.

But they both garnered about 50% of the popular vote.

Why?

Because there are a majority of Americans who are also “Go along to get along” types. It’s only natural. 99% of the time that’s what works. It’s called survival of the most adaptive.

Dems, Rats? What’s the difference, really? I’ll just vote the way my father (husband, brother, mother, sister, best friend, fave TV network) votes and be done with it.

Or not vote at all.

There’s no real difference among the parties or the candidates.

Yup.

However, here we are in crunch time.

Oil, the environment, the emergent ex-Third World, the tatters of the U.S. Constitution hanging around Butch’s neck like a cheap necktie…

UH oh!!!

And we have a potentially RE-adaptive leader.

One who is a member of a minority race that has been relegated to second-class citizenship for 400+ years here.

Alla’ those folks who voted for Butch?

All’s we need to do is not lose many of the ones who voted for Small K and Fat Al, attract maybe 10% of the Butch voters and what we have here is something commonly referred to as a “landslide” victory.

How to do this? In the most efficient, most secure manner?

LORD, people!!!

OBAMA/CLINTON ’08!!!

How much more can HRC prove herself?

“She’ll be a disruptive force!!!” bleat the leftiness sleeple.

Number one, she is and has been a good Dem all of her life. As good as any, and better than most.

Number two…?

C’mon.

When was a Vice-President of the U.S. ever in a position to be a disruptive force unless it was through Agnew-style graft?

Get real. The system is not set up to allow it.

Plus…she can school Obama in the finer points of the Presidential hustle. How to deal with Congress, the CIA and all of the other forces that come to bear on a sitting President. You know that proverbial first interview with the spooks and the generals? Where they walk into the Oval Office and say “Mr. President. Here’s what is REALLY happening.” and the President is so dumbstruck that he has to go into seclusion for a couple of days before he can get his game face back on?

She’s already been privy to that process.

She can help him get elected and she can help him govern.

Take her out of the picture and you are back playing amateur-level poker with the pros. Depending on luck and the goodness of the universe to see you through. (Which does happen. Occasionally.) Now Obama has some chops…he also has proven himself this year….and he is the right man in the right place at the right time. But why depend on luck when you can deal yourself a straight flush?

I do not understand the overall hatred of this woman as it has been evinced on the leftiness blogs. Except…it seems to have escalated as the dreaded white working class has embraced her. And of course…she IS a woman, after all. Can’t have THAT sort of thing happening…

You want a revolution?

Go whole hog plus postage.

Elect a ticket that breaks ALL of the rules and let’s get started on this goddamned century.

i wish i could agree, and i don’t feel 100% sure, but hilary’s face has been giving me nightmares…Big Sister kind.

sibelius is unknown to me, and a woman would definitely be a major asset as VP, preparing the electorate for a real woman president one day not too far away.

shrillary likes power way too much to be a good leader.

somehow i doubt she’d take the job anyway. w-a-y too much ego invested at this point.

richardson or ‘fat al’ (who’d shed a lb or two since those days) would still make a landslide well within the range of possibility.

AG, I find it pretty stunning that you open with the photo of the crowd nearing 80,000 that came out to see Senator Obama yet you go on to posit that he needs Hillary Clinton on the ticket to win the White House.

This is a very insulting post for several reasons. Shame Ag, shame.

Also insulting you would repeat racists talking points.

In life there are certain things not worth having, including some votes.

You may as well ask Senator Obama to let the Clintons take a third term. And with the Clintons, a third term won’t be enough.

No to a Clinton on the ticket in ’08. Hell NO.

    What of Vermont, (we’re very rural, white poor), how about Iowa and all those so-called white rural fly-over states that Obama won? BTW, I think with the exception 1960 when Kennedy won, WV has gone GOP. Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA) has already stated Obama can win PA without Clinton.

    Ask Dick Cheney. He’s leaving a lot of precedents. Those precedents make it paramount for Obama to avoid the Clintons. Who’d want a former president and first lady pulling daily coups?

“From Day One, Nixon and I talked about creating a new majority,” Buchanan told me recently, sitting in the library of his Greek-revival house in McLean, Virginia, on a secluded lane bordering the fenced grounds of the Central Intelligence Agency. “What we talked about, basically, was shearing off huge segments of F.D.R.’s New Deal coalition, which L.B.J. had held together: Northern Catholic ethnics and Southern Protestant conservatives–what we called the Daley-Rizzo Democrats in the North and, frankly, the Wallace Democrats in the South.” Buchanan grew up in Washington, D.C., among the first group–men like his father, an accountant and a father of nine, who had supported Roosevelt but also revered Joseph McCarthy. The Southerners were the kind of men whom Nixon whipped into a frenzy one night in the fall of 1966, at the Wade Hampton Hotel, in Columbia, South Carolina. Nixon, who was then a partner in a New York law firm, had travelled there with Buchanan on behalf of Republican congressional candidates. Buchanan recalls that the room was full of sweat, cigar smoke, and rage; the rhetoric, which was about patriotism and law and order, “burned the paint off the walls.” As they left the hotel, Nixon said, “This is the future of this Party, right here in the South.”

Nixon and Buchanan visited thirty-five states that fall, and in November the Republicans won a midterm landslide. It was the end of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, the beginning of his fall from power. In order to seize the Presidency in 1968, Nixon had to live down his history of nasty politicking, and he ran that year as a uniter. But his Administration adopted an undercover strategy for building a Republican majority, working to create the impression that there were two Americas: the quiet, ordinary, patriotic, religious, law-abiding Many, and the noisy, élitist, amoral, disorderly, condescending Few.

This strategy was put into action near the end of Nixon’s first year in office, when antiwar demonstrators were becoming a disruptive presence in Washington. Buchanan recalls urging Nixon, “We’ve got to use the siege gun of the Presidency, and go right after these guys.” On November 3, 1969, Nixon went on national television to speak about the need to avoid a shameful defeat in Vietnam. Looking benignly into the camera, he concluded, “And so tonight–to you, the great silent majority of Americans–I ask for your support.” It was the most successful speech of his Presidency. Newscasters criticized him for being divisive and for offering no new vision on Vietnam, but tens of thousands of telegrams and letters expressing approval poured into the White House. It was Nixon’s particular political genius to rouse simultaneously the contempt of the bien-pensants and the admiration of those who felt the sting of that contempt in their own lives.

Buchanan urged Nixon to enlist his Vice-President, Spiro Agnew, in a battle against the press. In November, Nixon sent Agnew–despised as dull-witted by the media–on the road, where he denounced “this small and unelected élite” of editors, anchormen, and analysts. Buchanan recalls watching a broadcast of one such speech–which he had written for Agnew–on a television in his White House office. Joining him was his colleague Kevin Phillips, who had just published “The Emerging Republican Majority,” which marshalled electoral data to support a prophecy that Sun Belt conservatism–like Jacksonian Democracy, Republican industrialism, and New Deal liberalism–would dominate American politics for the next thirty-two or thirty-six years. (As it turns out, Phillips was slightly too modest.) When Agnew finished his diatribe, Phillips said two words: “Positive polarization.”

Nixon was coldly mixing and pouring volatile passions. Although he was careful to renounce the extreme fringe of Birchites and racists, his means to power eventually became the end. Buchanan gave me a copy of a seven-page confidential memorandum–“A little raw for today,” he warned–that he had written for Nixon in 1971, under the heading “Dividing the Democrats.” Drawn up with an acute understanding of the fragilities and fault lines in “the Old Roosevelt Coalition,” it recommended that the White House “exacerbate the ideological division” between the Old and New Left by praising Democrats who supported any of Nixon’s policies; highlight “the elitism and quasi-anti-Americanism of the National Democratic Party”; nominate for the Supreme Court a Southern strict constructionist who would divide Democrats regionally; use abortion and parochial-school aid to deepen the split between Catholics and social liberals; elicit white working-class support with tax relief and denunciations of welfare. Finally, the memo recommended exploiting racial tensions among Democrats. “Bumper stickers calling for black Presidential and especially Vice-Presidential candidates should be spread out in the ghettoes of the country,” Buchanan wrote. “We should do what is within our power to have a black nominated for Number Two, at least at the Democratic National Convention.” Such gambits, he added, could “cut the Democratic Party and country in half; my view is that we would have far the larger half.”

The Nixon White House didn’t enact all of these recommendations, but it would be hard to find a more succinct and unapologetic blueprint for Republican success in the conservative era. “Positive polarization” helped the Republicans win one election after another–and insured that American politics would be an ugly, unredeemed business for decades to come.

  There is a future for Hillary, assuming she bows out graciously when the votes are over. We may have a huge hole in the Senate – with the news today. But the best use of her skills is not as VP – there is more lost for the Dems than gained.
