Obama Swamps Clinton Among Young Voters and Others
At the same time, support for Clinton among some of her traditionally stalwart support groups — women, Easterners, whites, adults with no college education, and Hispanics — has fallen below 50%.
Bottom Line
After nearly 20 grueling weeks on the campaign trail since he shook up the Democratic primary race by winning the Iowa caucuses, Obama has finally stretched his lead over his chief rival into the teens.
Having previously captured nearly the maximum level of support from black voters, Obama’s latest gains have come from a broad spectrum of rank-and-file Democrats. At least for now, he has expanded his position as the preferred candidate of men, young adults, and highly educated Democrats, and has erased Clinton’s advantages with most of her prior core constituency groups, including women, the less well-educated, and whites.
Help! How does one get the orange box around quotes, especially of paragraph length? I don’t know what hyper text mark up language to use. I need it pretty simple too.
Bill Clinton, campaigning with his wife in Kentucky, dismissed Mr Obama’s progress, pointing out his stance does not take account of results from Florida and Michigan’s disputed primaries held in January. He said the only way Mr Obama could have a majority would be if he allowed the Democratic party leadership to “decapitate” the two states – both of which are likely battlegrounds in November’s general election.
In her victory speech in Kentucky, Mrs Clinton reiterated that she was ahead of her rival in the popular vote, and insisted that she would stay in the race until the final primaries next month. “I am more determined than ever to see that every vote is cast,” she told cheering supporters.
Terry McAuliffe, Mrs Clinton’s campaign chairman, was asked by The Times if he really thought it feasible that she can win the 80 per cent of the remaining uncommitted super-delegates needed to wrench the nomination from Mr Obama’s grasp.
“It’s clearly do-able otherwise we wouldn’t be here today,” he said inside the Marriott Hotel in Louisville.
He added that super-delegates, who could still overturn the results of primaries and caucuses, are being canvassed every day but would not make up their minds until the final votes on June 3.
Gah, I don’t know how y’all here in DC get this Crackberry thing. I can’t stand typing on them. Everybody told me typing on an iPhone would be much harder, but I found it easy. Crackberries? Nah gah do it.
It took a while. Granted, I practiced on Mr. AP’s device first. I also resisted getting one.
Like everything else, it has its good points and bad. I don’t like the feeling that I’m still tethered to the office, but if I need to sneak out, I can still be connected w/o missing a beat. I can also use it to get directions and read Booman Tribune on long trips. 🙂 I really do.
Hillary’s position boggles my mind. She insists MI and FL must be counted, yet has no problem throwing overboard any state that held a caucus. What color is the sky in her world?
rumoured potential obama running mate, gov. sebelius of kansas, just upped her liberal cred yesterday:
Sebelius vetoes bill requiring voters to show photo ID
TOPEKA | A bill requiring Kansas voters to show photo identification in 2010 elections was vetoed today by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
.
.
.
The governor also struck down another bill today that changed the way a vacancy is to be filled in the Congress. Currently, the governor appoints the replacement to fill an unexpired term of a U.S. senator or representative who resigns or dies in office. Under the bill vetoed today, an election would have been required.
First time I ever saw her was giving a Democratic response speech. Was that the State of the Nation response, I think? And she was great. I love her. I’d like that ticket.
I thought that Democratic Response speech to the SOTU really sucked. But she has impressed me at other times. I’m not going to speculate on who Obama should pick for Veep though. It’s his decision and he knows an awful lot more about what he’s doing than I do.
She is impressive as a politician but I don’t remember one bit of detail from the speech. The previous year they had Jim Webb give the speech and it was so KICK-ASS that I remember most of his points very clearly even today.
Great speech. He just canceled out Hillary’s BIG WIN!
And I really respect how complimentary he was to his formidable opponent – Hillary.
Now we wait and watch the Oregon win. But he got the awesome speech in before the 11 O’Clock news in the east.
We’re learning that there are a few states loaded with scared racist white “working class” rednecks, but the vast majority of America’s “white working class” proudly supports and votes for Obama. I wish the news media would report that. And why can’t Hillary “close the sale” with anybody with an education?
I particularly liked how he took on John McCain. His list of things that “change” stands for was a good touch.
His compliments will play well with midwestern Hillary supporters. I’m sure the Hillary bloggers will hate it, but in real life the Hillary supporters I know are much more reasonable.
Yes. The McCain stuff was good and the bit about how proud he is for his daughters to have been able to witness such a great, competitive run Hillary has put in and how proud all people should be for their daughters to be able to witness this. Powerful stuff.
I gotta say — I’ll proudly support, vote for, work for and lose with Obama (though I don’t see that happening) — much more than the alternative left in this race. For me, it is all about her process. Poison. At least to my sensibilities. I’ll take Obama and his infusion of hope and young voters and formally turned-off voters and the attempt to win by addition instead of division. Fighting the good fight. Maybe that’s enough. Win or lose. Up or down.
Well I am tired of losing. But I think that a lot of her supporters are pissed off with Obama. It seems like what is happening in this poll is the sore loser effect.
And her campaign actively courts and exploits the sore losers by inviting them on conference calls and insisting that she won’t give up until McCain is president, um, I mean, the convention.
Is that she’s said that about about OH, PA and WV, too. She’s like that smarmy guy in movies who uses the same lines to get into a girls pants and every morning says, “Sure, babe…I’ll call you. Now I’ve got a….thing to do.”
I think the scenario of Clinton supporters claiming they’ll sit out or vote for McCain should Obama get the nod is real, not the passing disappointment and anger many project. The numbers polling with that intention are too high for it all to dissipate. I find it incomprehensible a liberal/progressive/Democratic woman would pull the lever for McCain, a man if elected surely in a position to entrench 2-3 more rabidly conservative members on SCOTUS. Does it matter to these Clinton supporters the damage that would do to women’s rights, the environment, civil rights, the courts down the line and generally the entire judiciary for generations to come? Evidently not. To explain they haven’t thought it all out and hence their attitude says little for their intellect. They’re no better than the recent votes in Appalachia primaries speak of those citizens, avoiding Obama in large numbers out of obvious racial animus. Between lacking the support of bigots and sore losers Obama may very well lose the election. That he needs the votes of such small, petty people is just as maddening. Democrats will deserve the wreckage they create if that happens.

Clinton is not delusional, and she’s not an idiot. She sees this meme flowing through her half of the Democratic Party and she does next to nothing to discourage it.
It’s intentional. She is trying to destroy the Democratic Party. What should that tell everyone?
Yup. We all said. Billary will destroy this party if they can’t get their way. Period. And that’s what you see on display here.
It is disgusting that she puts on this “Avenging Feminist Fighter” act only because she needs something. And that too many people are falling for it. Exasperating.
But it is what it is. Nobody said it would be easy, and we shouldn’t be surprised that “change” would also mean that we’d have to change the Dem party, too. So we’re just going to have to win this thing without them.
hehehe, glad you were able to master the code. if you ever have any other questions, drop a comment in one of the Cafe/Lounge threads at the top of the page and someone will be around to help you out.
I did my part, now let’s see what the rest of the state did – under a 30-point loss and I’d be satisfied.

Key Clinton Constituencies Moving Toward Obama
Check out this week’s This Modern World: The Strategist.
Hillary’s only remaining (weak) argument for the Supers. Just don’t say what it really is.
Help! How does one get the orange box around quotes, especially of paragraph length? I don’t know what hyper text mark up language to use. I need it pretty simple too.
Many, many thanks.
add
before the text and
after the text you’d like in the box.
and bad at math besides.
Hillary opened with a nice statement re Ted Kennedy – he’s always been here for us, so now we’re here for him.
One nice moment in 18 months….not enough. I am glad she was nice about Sen. Kennedy though.
Didn’t Ted Kennedy endorse Obama? So Hillary is STILL lying.
I can’t believe her supporters were sitting there cheering each time she mentioned one her goalpost moving lines.
Unreality reigns supreme in that campaign.
I mean, they still supported her after Tuzla. That told me everything I needed to know.
Check out Bill Clinton and Terry McAuliffe:
No joint ticket.
Clinton won. Zzzzzzz…
We just gave another $150 at a wine tasting FR. And guess what?
There was also brie!!!! ((Gasp))
We’ll have to cross the street for lattes. And we’re on DuPont Circle–San Francisco east, for sure!
But whatever…CNN just reported that Obama reported 200K NEW donors!
This was not a good day today, so I’m gonna celebrate w/ some good folks. Cheers!
Ugh…trying to type on a CrackBerry…!!!
We’re gonna celebrate ANYWAY. Even in the face of a crappy day.
Gah, I don’t know how y’all here in DC get this Crackberry thing. I can’t stand typing on them. Everybody told me typing on an iPhone would be much harder, but I found it easy. Crackberries? Nah gah do it.

The sky is a complimentary color to whatever pant suit she is wearing that day, of course.
This, of course, after she rejected the Michigan Democratic Party delegate compromise to make the votes of Michigan count…
Without that rejection, she’d have no reason to be in the race at all. Now she can claim she’s in it for Michigan, to the truly naive….
Oh, Oscar,Sweetie…you’re actually expecting consistency from Hillary?
BTW, I called you “sweetie.” Alert the media. And Mr. AP.
I’m sure I’m in trouble now…as soon as he stops laughing at this post as I’m typing it.
Anyone have news on tonights race. The other residents of BostonJoeVille are watching Dancing Stars. I’ve got nada.
but interesting nonetheless.

Honestly, I don’t recall an iota of substance of the speech. But I was impressed by her manner, demeanor, personality. The intangibles.
She is impressive as a politician but I don’t remember one bit of detail from the speech. The previous year they had Jim Webb give the speech and it was so KICK-ASS that I remember most of his points very clearly even today.
That was a strong speech in Iowa.
And the secret service agents with him look totally stressed because he dove into the crowd.
Great speech. He just canceled out Hillary’s BIG WIN!

kos has it up:
Very true.
SurveyUSA has just come out with a poll from North Carolina for the General Election and these are the results:
McCain 51
Obama 43
Hillary 49
McCain 43

You’re in Michigan aren’t you?
Do you expect any fallout against the Dems from the whole MI / FL fiasco?
Well I am tired of losing. But I think that a lot of her supporters are pissed off with Obama. It seems like what is happening in this poll is the sore loser effect.

That was fast.
Fox calls it.
“As everyone knows, as goes Kentucky, as goes the nation,” Really?
Is that she’s said that about about OH, PA and WV, too. She’s like that smarmy guy in movies who uses the same lines to get into a girls pants and every morning says, “Sure, babe…I’ll call you. Now I’ve got a….thing to do.”
Hillary’s campaign wins the race on debt:
$31 million debt pile, filed late so as not to take the air out of a meaningless win in KY.
The LA Times messed up their math and have corrected the article.
I think the scenario of Clinton supporters claiming they’ll sit out or vote for McCain should Obama get the nod is real, not the passing disappointment and anger many project.
