So, John McCain decides to open his post-Independence Day campaigning discussing the economy in Denver, Colorado. How does the Obama campaign respond? By making a major announcement about the August Democratic National Convention in Denver.
DENVER – Breaking the mold of traditional political Conventions, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today announced that Senator Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination for President of the United States at Denver’s INVESCO Field at Mile High. INVESCO Field can accommodate more than 75,000 people and will be the site of the 2008 Democratic Convention’s final day of programming on Thursday, August 28, 2008.
“The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the Convention,” said Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). “Senator Obama’s candidacy has generated an enormous amount of excitement and interest, not only in the Democratic Party but also in the 2008 Convention. By bringing the last night of the Convention out to the people, we will be able to showcase Barack Obama’s positive, people-centered vision for our country in a big way.”
Somehow, I don’t think McCain’s comments on the economy are going to get much news coverage in the Denver market (or anywhere else for that matter). It’s a good start to the week.
and it went off great.
“The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August….”
Statements like this now make me wince.
It’ll be a long week with people pulling their hair out about the FISA bill. It’s not all Obama’s fault though. This is a systemic party failure.
I agree but very distressing nonetheless.
Maybe, maybe not. FISA just isn’t a big enough deal for most Americans. The fever for change is also a symptom of wanting to turn the page. Exacting the last and proper drop of blood, or any blood, from the Bush administration just isn’t that important to many who want to begin on a cleaner, clearer path.
Keeping in mind that Obama simply cannot/must not lose at this point, and the vast number of knuckleheads who will not vote for him because he is black/muslim/anti Gitmo/pro abortion/communist/crap it is really a political calculis to stand back on a few things.
We don’t like it, but we really should like the alternative less.
That is not an argument to abandon principle and message. Kerry go all mushy and somehow lost to a failed president. Obama must keep authenticity in his message. When he goes unexpected places in his policy he must challenge his supporters to see his reasoning. Change must become personal and he must continue to challenge supporters to change themselves to move off tired positions that are not working.
The 4th amendment is not a tired position though. That’s why this is causing such a pile-up on the Change Superhighway.
For sure, but this story just hasn’t gained traction in the press or public consciousness.
It is complicated legally and technically for people to understand and most Americans feel(wrongly) that they won’t be targeted if they are not a terrorist.
And for those that have a glimmer of a clue, they just want to move on from their Bush fatigue and get things fixed.
It’s actually simpler that the complexity of the issue. All media outlets are run by corporations, many including telecommunications interests. This is a simple matter of the corporate press keeping silent on an issue and repeating erroneous and misleading narratives to the American people.
People can understand these issues, but not if they don’t have access to the information, or they are being lied to.
I first read about this possibility sometime last week, and over the weekend saw confirmation.
In my email today from Obama’s campaign:
That news is so yesterday.
Hmmm, but a diamond does exist in that campaign email:
$5 dollar is a small price for a raffle ticket to view an extremely historic and very cool event.
This place doesn’t seem to have a roof. What happens if it rains?
The Democrats will be all wet!
Actually, a strong possibility in August.
yeah, one of those classic late afternoon t-storms with rolling clouds, massive streaks of lightning and booming thunder, followed by the setting suns horizontal rays…think of the dramatic effect…wagner-esque.
a pr man’s wet dream.
/snark
Never stopped Elway (damn him).
Obama’s plane has a safety issue…. makes unscheduled stop for safety check. No one hurt
Why are these MD-80 models still in the air? Years ago I read these MD models had safety issues.
