I’m still hoping that Scott Kleeb can get traction in the Nebraska senate race. I thought this was funny.
Nebraska Democratic Senate candidate Scott Kleeb might be a shoe-in if only women in Nebraska were allowed to vote (see photos.)…
…Peg Libbert, a Nebraska Democrat who is hosting a coffee this week called “Women for Scott Kleeb” told New West, “What I really like about Scott is he has a view based on his hard work with regular people and his education in history and government. He wrote his dissertation on Agricultural Economics. I think the Senate needs a person like that instead of more lawyers, not that I have anything against lawyers.”
She added, “Oh, yes – he has it all. He’s so impressive in person – educated, with that history background – and of course, he’s a hunk. That never hurts in an election.”
Kleeb should win, but he has to get his message out.
New Midwest thread.
Where are all the Midwesterners???
Yeah, for some silly reason, its usually pretty lonely here. I’m from southern Indiana, close to Indiana University. Earlier this evening I heard that Jill Long-Thompson (D), candidate for Indiana governor, will finally be putting in an appearance here Sept. 20 at an Obama rally. We’ve been badgering her campaign staff for a couple of months to get her to southern Indiana.
Hi IndianaDem,
I’m just south of Detroit, so we’ve been dealing with the Kwame Kilpatrick issue. His Momma just got back in as State Rep so theres a lot of influence going for him. Besides, his ego is too big to let him step down. Too bad, the city’s falling apart at the seems.
I can think of several in the Indiana General Assembly I’d like to see hit the road, although the current guv is at the top of that particular list. I hope there’s a big union vote, since one of the guv’s first acts after he took office was to throw out collective bargaining for state employees. He and some in the state bureaucracy have developed the nasty habit of making up new rules, regardless of current law and then they get the GA to ratify what they’ve done in the next legislative session. Sound anything like the beltway crowd?
Actually,it sounds like the bushies.
There’s a group in West Michigan started by my brother and a group of bipartisan people called
“Reform Michigan Government Now” that is trying to get some major proposals to the state constitution on the ballot in November. Very progressive proposals that will set this state in the right direction. It has a few items that hit the legislature on both sides of the fence and they are hitting them hard. If you get a chance go look at the web site and if you know anyone in Michigan, pass it along.

Where does the majority of Indiana stand on the general election?
The Obama people think Indiana is very much in play this election. They’re opening a headquarters in our county seat in a few weeks, which is amazing since the entire county only has a population of a little over 15,000. There are Obama headquarters going in all over the state and the organizational effort being put forth is really something to see. Hopes are high!
Thanks for the reform Michigan linkage. As a matter of fact, I have a leftie friend at Ann Arbor who just retired from the university and another at Battle Creek. I’ll pass the info along to them. Haven’t had a chance to take a look myself yet, but maybe tomorrow.
Thanks for passing the info along. The RMGN group lives just north of Battle Creek.
Do you intend to help in the presidential campaign? We usually do through our local Dem Club. Can’t shake the feeling that McCain will somehow slip in there. This country will not survive another 4 years if so.
Well, back to work on Monday. Have a good week!
Yep, I’ll be helping alright. I’ve weaseled my way into the Democratic Central Committee as a precinct committeeman and defacto communications director. My precinct has about 1100 registered voters and a fairly balanced D & R mix. In the 2006 general election there was one more R straight ticket voted than D. We’re opening our joint campaign headquarters with the Obama staff Aug. 23.
Our weather is really pleasant right now and I really wish we had just one more day off this weekend!
Same on my end. The Obama district coordinator will be at our Dem Club meet this Wednesday and we’ll start going from there. It looks to be another rough one. Go figure!
“Just happened within hours, the Michigan Court of Appeals demanded that the Bd of Canvassers cease and desist from voting on our proposal this Thursday, despite the fact that the Bureau of Elections recommended it be approved. The argument being that we are trying to change too much of the constitution, even though there is NO LIMIT to the changes one can make according to the constitution. This sets a precedent which would place the fate of each and every referendum or initiative in the hands of a few judges. If they don’t like it,they just don’t allow it to proceed to the ballot.”
Reform Michigan Government Now ballot proposal shot down by Michigan Court of Appeals. No surprise. Won’t make it through appeal process either. Too many politicians will lose money/positions.
How disheartening. Michigan couldn’t be much further in the toilet.
Sorry to hear. Its tough going against the great inertia that state (and federal) government seems to be mired in.
Jared Polis becomes first openly gay man to be elected to Congress (okay, okay, he still has to win his Boulder, Colorado district in the general).
now if the rest of the country could grow up, we might get somewhere.
If you’re close to Indianapolis, take a look at the first ever Blog Indiana Conference. I’m going to check it out on Saturday. Howard Dean was in town Wednesday, maybe he’ll show up;-)
This looks interesting.
And bilerico will be there.
How did the Blog Indiana go? Looked like they had some interesting sessions.
Here’s a brief report with pix. I enjoyed it.
Nice crowd. Good pics. So now you know everything there is
to know about political blogging, right?
Oh, I could go through the mechanics of setting up a blog pretty easily, but the writers here at BT give me great cause for humility in the posting department;-)
Do you ever stop in the cafe? There are some very nice people there to hang out with (mostly early risers). You might enjoy the company there, as I do.
not usually. I’ll check it out though. I’m usually just a lurker and commenter.
The ambiance is generally pretty relaxed and at times, we can be downright slackers;-)
Stephanie Tubbs-Jones has been hospitalized.
Oh shit. Very bad news for the Congresswoman.
CNN is reporting that she has died
heard that too. And that John Kerry already gave a statement.
Her condition updated at 6:00

You gotta love that. LOL!
Is anyone else going to the rally on Labor Day at Hart Plaza? I plan on being there and I thought it might be cool to meet some fellow Boo Tribbers!
did you make it to Hart Plaza? I was kinda glad I didn’t make the trek after hearing about the massive lines and then he only spoke for about 10 minutes if that. I’m just south of Detroit.
What? You didn’t read my diary? It’s still up, under world diaries 🙂 I too am south of Detroit – Windsor (a Detroit area girl who married a Canadian for his universal health care)
I made it to Jefferson and that was as far as I got.
Glad most of the Kwame drama is over. Although I do believe there is a lot more to come out yet.
It is going to be ugly. The city council is next. I hope that a few city residents get together to try and change the charter so that council members are elected by wards.
well, just as expected, the Michigan Supreme Court turned down the ballot proposal for some real government reform in Michigan. It helps that the Michigan supreme court is the right arm of the republican party, and that they would have had their salaries cut and jobs in jeopardy?. It still amazes me that congress can vote themselves a raise or make decisions that will affect them. I’m disgusted and close to giving up.
Sorry to hear. It reminds me of the crappy voter ID law we have here in Indiana and how the supremes in DC refused to strike it down. On a more local note, we’re thinking of adding Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepherd to our campaign list of people to defeat due to his hostility to local government and willingness to toady for guv Mitch Daniels. He is on the Nov. ballot.
we are trying to get in Diane Marie Hathaway in Michigan for the very same reason.
If you want to help win Ohio, visit Vote Today Ohio.
I had the opportunity to volunteer at Biden’s visit to Flat Rock Michigan. The speech was great of course. He’s a great speaker and the crowd loved him. His meme now is for Americans to “stand up”. I sure hope they do!!!

I hope he’s not the last rational republican to come out and speak the truth.
he’s not the last, maybe the second-to-last.
K/O’s video:
I like it!
I finally got to meet our candidate for governor, Jill Long-Thompson, this morning. She comes across very well in person and has a decent stump speech. She’s a long shot, but its certainly a possibility this year. We’re working like hell to make it happen.
Just because mccain is pulling out of Michigan does not mean we can relax. There is a lot of racial history in this state and I see more Mccain signs where I live Downriver (just south of Detroit) than Obama ones. If anything we need to work harder.
The McCain people have finally started running ads here. Indiana is almost a dead heat right now. Obama is coming to visit Indianapolis one more time this coming Wednesday. I think the state may very well go blue for a change. I wish we could get rid of the current guv as well, but he is running a very competent, well funded campaign. He projects the Mr. Folksy image with great alacrity and the low info voters really seem to eat it up.
sort of like Palin. The woman is an abomination. It’s beyond belief that people would think she is capable of running this country.
I’m very worried about Michigan.
As you said above, we’ve got to work even harder to do what we can.
they must be up to some tricks. Knollenberg, a big Michigan repub has invited palin back to campaign in Michigan. He’s down in the polls and needs them back to help him win.
Should be interesting to see if mccain folds and lets her come back. we’ll know who wheres the pants on this team!
