There must be something important going on in the world. Probably something no one in our corporate media deems worthy of covering. What might that be do you suppose? Whatever it is, rest assured Tom Friedman won’t know about it, much less understand it.
Here’s one. If it’s fire season in California, it’s also fires season in Greece:
Greece is getting more and more fires. I follow the national and I don’t think any of us comprehend just how big big business of wildfires really are. Equipment, manpower, support…it’s all huge
And I’m always taken aback at how the oil gas guys are overriding everyone else.
Then there’s the thoughtful trying to figure out the future of biofuels
A big part of the reason Greece is having more fires is development. There are rules that there’s no building in natural areas. The developers want those areas, so they burn them. Arson was the cause of most of last year’s fires.
Of course, the downside to that is the protection is no longer there, which creates a domino effect so they get more fires. We see that here in So Cal. When something burns it’s one thing, but then it exposes other areas to burn. If the brush hasn’t been cleared/protected, we get leapfrog fires.
What I’m really interested in following is the upcoming reaction to the Beijing Olympics. The coverage will include the massive public works projects and growth over the past decade which will be a shock to many low-information Americans. Will their ascendency, and the fact that they (along with a few others) own us, suddenly make “dealing with China” an issue in the presidential campaign?
