Hi CG! Its hotter’n the hinges o’hell here, but probably not as much as in Austin! Glad things seem to be interesting at the NN. Tell Al Gore that Indianadem says hello;-)
I don’t like it when the temps get over 80 so yeah I really don’t like summer. If it could be May-like all the way through August, then I’d like summer.
I’m starting to think that living is easier in winter. (As long as it isn’t snowing heavily.) No lawns to cut weekly and no awful heat/humidity. That whole dry heat in the west sounds good right about now.
I’m not much for extremes either way, but, where I used to hate hate hate the winters when I lived up north, I now hate hate hate the summers. I feel so lethargic when it’s hot and muggy. I don’t want to do anything.
I’m not nearly as driven to mow our little plot since fuel for the mower is now 4.19 here. Its the best excuse I can think of. Last year someone stole my 1 gallon mower gas can out of the carport, so I had to buy a big cabinet to lock the new one up. I expect to wake up some night and find hoodlums siphoning gas out of my little push mower and stealing its tiny hubcaps for good measure;-)
I had a dream about Heath Ledger. And a couple nights ago a bat got caught in the screen window right behind my bed. I think I’m supposed to go see Batman now, the omens are unmistakable.
It seems cool and delightful here after a few days in Austin.
Same here in Tucson. Everyone’s complaining about the humidity and I’m loving it compared to the constant sauna conditions over the past few days in Tejas.
She’s doing much better. She got her staples and drain out over the weekend but got a bigger cast that she has to wear for 16 weeks. Instead of construction she’s doing some herbalist work now. Much safer… 🙂
We’ve had nothing but scorching weather down here. We’ve been staying in the mid-high 90’s with the heat index in the 100’s everyday. The one good thing is that it has stunted the grown of the grass, and the lawn is turning the prettiest shade of brown. 🙂
RF that was a great picture of you four at the convention.
Her asthma has really been kicking in. We have a home health nurse that has been coming by, and she gave FMom hell for not taking her breathing treatments like she is supposed to. So at least now she’s doing what she’s supposed to.
So how does it feel to have the house all to yourself?
The being by yourself takes some getting used to, but I found that I liked it. Just to have the luxury of putting something down, and knowing it will still be there when you need it again is always a good feeling.
I’m fine unless I have to leave the house for any reason. Even that initial two minutes in the hot car before the AC works is almost unbearable. Something that never happened up north but happens here all the time…when I get in the hot, hot car my scalp starts to itch/burn from the heat. WTF? My kids say the same thing.
but one following 22 hours without electricity, cell phone (which is still gone), and landline. Yep, I hate summer and really hate massive summer thunderstorm cells.
But I love the way the downed tree seems to trace the shape of the creek bed. click for larger
Our storms were Monday night and there were something like 100,000 homes and business in central/south central Indiana without power. There were even some houses that burned down from lighting strikes.
I guess we got what was left of your storms last night. The thunder was really odd, you could sort of hear it roll across the sky over the house from one side to the other.
We had a couple of decent size branches come down on the house but other than that is was just a lots of noise and flashing lights, no electricity, and very little sleep.
And yay to the end of algebra (even if it won’t be gone forever).
Good morning!
Hi and bye, the kids are impatiently waiting outside the library.
Had to do some e-mails but now, back to sea. Weather is absolutely gorgeous and the forecast is promising much more of the same.
Bebo, a 6-7 month old beagle/boxer mix (can you figure out the name?). Currently the pack is about as cohesive as the dems but I think there’s more hope here than in congress for a better result.
Good morning Andi! I’ll bet there’s lots of sniffing and posturing going on, quite similar to group behavior at political functions. Hope the new pack member falls into place soon.
It’s is very like — the elder states(wo)man is being haughtily indifferent to yet another up-and-comer while the former young star is feeling pissy about the competition.
On occasion, I’ve had a mental picture of certain people marking their imagined territories in ways similar to our canine friends. It gets me through some of the more intolerable gatherings.
Our 2 cats have the house divided in half and neither dare invade the borders of the other. Mrs. Dem has taken to calling the hall the Gaza Strip.
It’s not that bad here — Bebo and Sniff are right now sleeping within 18″ of each other — but Sniff growls if Bebo gets too close. I think it will be okay once he’s convinced that he’s not going to be displaced as king of the couch.
Hi boran! I’m thinking my spiderman son, the one who got suspended from college for scaling the language arts building at 3 in the morning, climbed up the rickety metal ladder that I read about in the church’s description…
For the best views, you have to pay to take the elevator, or climb the 90m (300 ft.) to the top of the towers. Note: The elevators don’t always work and the final “ladders” to the top are very narrow and quite steep. As you cross the bridge to enter the towers, look for the carved condors — the stonework is impressive and the condors look as though they are about to fly away. The basilica is also famous for its mystical gargoyles in the form of local Ecuadorian icons such as pumas, monkeys, penguins, tortoises, and condors that guard the outsides of the church.
Hey, it’s not my fault you used imprecise language … you said the three of them and I assumed that meant your 3 kids but it’s really nice that you include Jackie as one of the kids. 🙂
I just remembered, when I visited Zaragosa, SP in ’87, the daily schedule there seemed quite sensible. It was a little eerie to walk around in a good sized city where nothing moved in the afternoon. Sort of like an urban “Mary Celeste”.
Bebo is pretty cute. Then again most puppies are. I was wondering before if a new dog was in your future. I’m afraid after George that probably it for me. I don’t know if I’d have the energy to raise another puppy.
I think they’re predicting 105-107 head index for today and possible scattered thunder storms. It seems like they keep popping up all around us, but none here.
I always figured if I ever did get another dog after George, I would want a very quiet and lazy one. One that fits my character much more. It seems with George I’m always telling him to stop barking. He has been on a rampage this week because my brother, sil, and three of their grandchildren are visiting. I’m looking forward to the end of the week when they’ll be out the door and a little peace and quiet will return. 🙂
I have a big lazy dog for you. Well, not very big or very lazy, but you could overfeed her and get her fat and lethargic like most basset hounds are. She’d love your pond.
We have someone in the neighborhood that has an old basset hound. He’ll come through the back yard every now and then to inspect and George will go crazy. He mostly ignores George and waddles on to the next yard. He does have a loud bark on him when he’s inclined to. 🙂
Hopey does have an impressive, barrel-chested bark on her. I’m sure people who come to the door when I’m not home think I have a vicious dog and that suits me just fine.
Sorry to hear about FMom’s asthma and oxygen situation. My mom has been on oxygen for the past year (60+ years of smoking) but I think Medicare covers it. She’s got to wheel that thing around in a stroller wherever she goes.
I don’t know if it’s the state or what, but to qualify for O2 here you have to have a po2 of 55. Hers was in the 60s. I just wish some of the people who set up these arbitrary numbers could see her when she can’t walk six feet without giving out of breath. Luckily though that doesn’t happen all the time. Lately her breathing has been getting better, but a lot of that depends on her. She’s supposed to take four nebulizer treatments every day. For some reason she hates to take them, and it up to me to push her to do them.
With George here any time anyone come to the door they hear him barking, but I’m afraid with his barking they probably think it one of those electronic boxes that has dogs barking on it. George is small, but he’s loud. 🙂
How is everyone doing? Nancy Pelosi is about to speak and answer questions.
Hi CG! Its hotter’n the hinges o’hell here, but probably not as much as in Austin! Glad things seem to be interesting at the NN. Tell Al Gore that Indianadem says hello;-)
It was quite a surprise hen he showed up…very cool.
Al and I have a secret connection. Ask AndiF sometime, she knows.
The news here: it’s still really hot and humid, and I still hate summer.
Do you really hate summer? Or just the extreme heat?
I don’t like it when the temps get over 80 so yeah I really don’t like summer. If it could be May-like all the way through August, then I’d like summer.
I’m starting to think that living is easier in winter. (As long as it isn’t snowing heavily.) No lawns to cut weekly and no awful heat/humidity. That whole dry heat in the west sounds good right about now.

I like spring, which now seeks to last about 2 or 3 days ’round here.
You’ll need a mower alarm. 😉
I was thinking Lojack.
is just like Sunday, at least as far as the forecast goes — hot, humid, thunderstorms. Don’t the weather gods have any imagination?

Yeah, here too.
I had a dream about Heath Ledger. And a couple nights ago a bat got caught in the screen window right behind my bed. I think I’m supposed to go see Batman now, the omens are unmistakable.
It seems cool and delightful here after a few days in Austin.
What did you dream about Heath Ledger? I think it’s kind of creepy to see the movie come out after he’s been dead for a while, myself.
Last week of algebra class this week! Woo-hoo.
Hey CG. Looks like there’s a nice little lineup of tropical storms awaiting your beach vacation…:)
Well, if it’s going to rain the while time, maybe we should take a day and leave the island and meet you somewhere. 🙂
It seems cool and delightful here after a few days in Austin.
Same here in Tucson. Everyone’s complaining about the humidity and I’m loving it compared to the constant sauna conditions over the past few days in Tejas.
Great to see you and hang out!
Netroots was a blast and meeting Cabingirl, Booman, and ManEegee was one of the biggest highlights of the entire event!!!!
It was so great to meet and hang out with you too, refinish!
You better come to Pittsburgh next year.
I am planning on it!!!
I’ll be there, driving this time. Woohoo! Road trip!
Wow, what a motley crew! 🙂
ROTFLMAO!!! You should have seen us a few hours later.
I can imagine BooMan’s eyeballs completely disappeared by then…
no kidding. the hilton valet area will never be the same
… by the combined magnificence of that photo. 🙂
…that you had such a wonderful time refinish!
CG – you forgot your shirt! … 🙂
great to meet you, too, refi! the pic came out great
Ah – the brightest & best! Love it!
My kids arrived safely in Guayaquil yesterday and after a bus trip to Cuenca they will be hiking here today and tomorrow…

wow, that looks amazing.
Wow, that’s gorgeous.
I’m assuming that “kids” does not include Ryan. How is she doing?
She’s doing much better. She got her staples and drain out over the weekend but got a bigger cast that she has to wear for 16 weeks. Instead of construction she’s doing some herbalist work now. Much safer… 🙂
And depending on how one defines herbs, it can also be much more … umm … relaxing.
Good morning everyone.
We’ve had nothing but scorching weather down here. We’ve been staying in the mid-high 90’s with the heat index in the 100’s everyday. The one good thing is that it has stunted the grown of the grass, and the lawn is turning the prettiest shade of brown. 🙂
RF that was a great picture of you four at the convention.
good morning, FM. We had a little break from the humidity, if not the heat, but it’s right back up there again. I’m so so ready for fall weather.
How is Mama feeling?
Hi SN.
Her asthma has really been kicking in. We have a home health nurse that has been coming by, and she gave FMom hell for not taking her breathing treatments like she is supposed to. So at least now she’s doing what she’s supposed to.
So how does it feel to have the house all to yourself?
Yeah, with asthma prevention is really the key. Hope she’ll do better from now on.
It feels weird to have the house to myself. I’m not sure how I feel about it.
The being by yourself takes some getting used to, but I found that I liked it. Just to have the luxury of putting something down, and knowing it will still be there when you need it again is always a good feeling.
So have you been staying cool lately?
I’m fine unless I have to leave the house for any reason. Even that initial two minutes in the hot car before the AC works is almost unbearable. Something that never happened up north but happens here all the time…when I get in the hot, hot car my scalp starts to itch/burn from the heat. WTF? My kids say the same thing.
I’ve never had the itch/burn from the heat, but I can see how it could happen.
I’m really ready for winter though. I am just not a summer person.
I get crabby and lethargic. Even more than usual…
Oh well, time to get to my busy schedule of doing nothing. Have a good day and stay cool.
See ya later and you stay cool too.
You too. See ya later!
but one following 22 hours without electricity, cell phone (which is still gone), and landline. Yep, I hate summer and really hate massive summer thunderstorm cells.

We had thunderstorms last night too. Long ones, but we only lost power for about 5 minutes (what a nice change from out usual routine).
2 more days of algebra class after today. And it’s beach time on Sunday. 🙂
Our storms were Monday night and there were something like 100,000 homes and business in central/south central Indiana without power. There were even some houses that burned down from lighting strikes.
Wow. Glad your house is okay!

Good to see that you’ve got most of it back, Andi.
Cell phone is back now too. So I’m a whole person again; what a relief. 😉
OMG. He’s “splayed across” the hood of the car and Novak didn’t know he hit anyone? And double OMG…Novak has a black Corvette convertible?!
I know…forget the hit-and-run, what about the car?
Amanda Terkel rocks.
Wildebeast!!
ah yes, duncan hunter’s fixation on dietary matters is legend, he of orange-glazed chicken, fresh fruit groupe, steamed peas and mushrooms, rice pilaf fame.
a fitting solution to his desire to go hunting would be to air drop him into chad and see if he has any survival skills.
there’s not even a chance of thunderstorms.
I think I’m in shock.
Heat and humidity. Ah Andi, welcome to my world.
Hope you can stay cool today.
Just on my way out the door to the NOT hot, HOT humid woods. w00t (though it’s not going to last).
Ta.
Good morning!
Hi and bye, the kids are impatiently waiting outside the library.
Had to do some e-mails but now, back to sea. Weather is absolutely gorgeous and the forecast is promising much more of the same.
We had t-storms all night long. I’m surprised that the b2boy was not scared. We even had some heavy hale which set every metal item outside ringing.
… though I wouldn’t minded waking up to my thankfulness a bit later.
Happy weekend all.

Oh goody!…now where is keres with dog blogging?
Yeah, I really miss that — no Albert, no Luna, and no spectacular birds.
I miss that too.
Congratulations on your new pack member! 🙂
Hey, are you guys at the beach yet?
Weekends need more days in them.
…and still 7 more days til the kids come home from Ecuador.
This is three of them in front of the basillica in Quito.
How did they manage to get that shot? It’s a nice view.
Hi boran! I’m thinking my spiderman son, the one who got suspended from college for scaling the language arts building at 3 in the morning, climbed up the rickety metal ladder that I read about in the church’s description…
That’s got to be quite a tall rickety ladder.
from NYT travel section:
Wait … he climbed the ladder to take the picture and he’s in the pictures!?! That must be one hell of a timer on his camera. 😉
No, goofball, he’s not in the picture. It’s O&J and B in the pic. Sheesh…
Hey, it’s not my fault you used imprecise language … you said the three of them and I assumed that meant your 3 kids but it’s really nice that you include Jackie as one of the kids. 🙂
Hey, I do not discriminate by bloodline in my family. 🙂
Unless the bloodline belongs to a schnoodle.
Good morning Andi, Second Nature & Boran2! The extra hour of sleep this morning was delicious.
Yeah but you missed the only cool part of the day.
Maybe the answer is to get up early, then nap from 9 to 3.
I just remembered, when I visited Zaragosa, SP in ’87, the daily schedule there seemed quite sensible. It was a little eerie to walk around in a good sized city where nothing moved in the afternoon. Sort of like an urban “Mary Celeste”.
I’m all for a world wide adoption of the midday break.
And see, it’s already time for one. See ya later.
Just the perfect combination. 🙁
From a sunnier day …

Good morning Andi.
It looks like you’re getting all the rain we want down here. Nice Picture.
Another no sleep night here. This time it wasn’t Fmom calling every hour, but a bad headache. If it’s not one thing it’s another.
I haven’t been around much lately. I hope everyone is doing fine.
We missed you. Sorry about the YAWN, especially one from a bad headache.
If you look upthread you can see my news in words and pictures — a new dog. 🙂
Bebo is pretty cute. Then again most puppies are. I was wondering before if a new dog was in your future. I’m afraid after George that probably it for me. I don’t know if I’d have the energy to raise another puppy.
Do ya’ll see any dry days coming your way?
Bebo is cute and is exhausting so I can definitely understand your decision.
We had a dry weekend which was nice. Forecast is for heat and humidity and chance of thunderstorms for most of the week but drying out toward the end.
I think they’re predicting 105-107 head index for today and possible scattered thunder storms. It seems like they keep popping up all around us, but none here.

Hope everyone has a good day today.
Good luck at the doctor, FM.
