Welcome back.
This week we will be continuing with the (West) Cape May, New Jersey Victorian house. The photo that I’m using is seen directly below.
I am doing this piece in my usual acrylics and, once again, in an 8×10 format on stretched canvas.
When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.
Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.
Appearing for the first time is the sky seen here its initial first layer incarnation. It will receive several more coats before this is done.
The shadows have received considerable attention. Note that the light is coming from the right side. The front porch casts a heavy shadow beneath its roof. Around it the entire front facade is in a consistent shadow similar to that of the source photo. Extra paint was used to start the street.
Finally, the roof has been given an addiotinal layer of paint, but not its last.
The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
That’s about it for now. I’ll see you next week with more progress. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.
Paint me a picture of your thoughts.
Looks like sunrise to me now.
I hear sea gulls and catch the scents of salt water, fresh coffee and wet grass :o)
And many tourists!
haha! Yeah, them too :o)
We have ’em here too. It’s so bad that a working guy can’t find a pack of hamburger on a Friday after work after the hordes sweep through the grocery stores like waves of army ants! LOL :o)
Greenport , which is one town east of me and where my Pop was born has basically turned into a tourist trap. It’s traditional working waterfront town infrastructure and business base has morphed the Main and Front street’s Mom and Pop stores into art galleries and high priced candy and coffee shops. Years ago when I worked with my Pop I used to get embarrassed when he would just flat out yell at them to get out of his town :o) Now, I kind of feel the same way that he did back then!
It looks great. I like seeing what went into making the shadows.
Great work!
Here’s one of my own. I’m not a painter, but a photographer.
Florida Bay, Everglades National Park.
Let me know if you like it, I’ve got lots more.
Thanks for sharing this!
Time to delurk and share…
Nicely done. What medium is this?
Thank you. Ink and water color pencil.
