They are having some weather in Florida which may help explain a couple of strange primary results in the 9th and 10th Districts down there. Proving that money isn’t everything in politics, Bill Mitchell and Bob Hackworth won their respective primaries over much better funded opponents. Check them out because they are going to need money to compete in their races. The big money went to their opponents but the people had the final say.
Meanwhile, in Alaska, Rep. Don Young is behind by a few hundred votes with 85% of districts reporting. A recount appears likely. In the Senate race, moronic Republicans resoundingly renominated Ted ‘Hulk Tie’ Stevens. Brilliant, and thank you!! Go Mark Begich!!
I’m in his CD. He is a good candidate and he hustled in many ways.
But have to be honest that his “much better funded opponent” was almost entirely self-funded, and Hackworth actually raised more money from supporters. Still the point remains valid that money couldn’t buy that election.
Also, to the credit of the two runner-ups in that primary, after the election they both immediately supported Hackworth.
