I don’t claim to know about this antichrist business, what I think I do know is that McCain is an old white guy who likes war too much. That and he scares the beJesus out of me.
l admit l don’t quite understand this response, but assuming you think a draft would be the kiss of death for mcpalin…l would counter that it won’t happen until after/if they’re elected.
100 + year wars take a lot of bodies:and according to sarah, it’s her god’s will…l could go on, but why bother.
I don’t care about McSame. I care about the WarHeads in general. Given Obama’s acceptance of the GWOT as a ‘real thing’, the idea of military means of resolving this ‘conflict’ is acceptable must die.
Since both parties are leading us towards an expanded conflict (Afghanistan-first vs Iran-first), the only realistic way the AmeriPeeps will ‘get it’ is under crisis like their daughter INVOLUNTARILY serving.
Vietnam style.
No draft, no REAL quagmire, as we are seeing. Didn’t you know we’ve won? With honor?
Cut off the head, the hydra grows 2 more – you have to stab it’s heart.
The idea of a pacifist resolution is quaint now, IMHO. Still Right, but still quaint.
The day McCain’s party blew its political advantage
In all my years in national politics since 1982 there had been one constant until August 29. It was that the Republican party cornered the national security market. They were willing to give up advantages on healthcare, environment and, in the end, even fiscal responsibility. But never, ever, would they cede that patch of high ground they refer to as “American security”. Any time I had a race against a Republican opponent, I respected their operation. And often (I am not afraid to admit), I was scared to run against them because you knew most of the candidates were going to be selected carefully, based on a combination of experience, adherence to tradition, national security or public safety credentials. John McCain fits this profile almost to a T. Strangely, he has chosen to cede this advantage not just for himself but for the Republican party for the foreseeable future.
As they say, Republicans were willing to put “being” above “well-being”. They would say: “[Insert name of Democrat] is inexperienced. They may give you what you want on economic or social programmes, but they are not up to the task of protecting our country.” No matter how untrue or how scurrilously achieved, their branding of Democratic candidates has worked.
Then Mr McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. We often say September 11 2001 changed the world (and it did); we can now say August 29 2008 changed the future of the Republican party for ever. To pacify some talk radio blowhards and the pro-life crowd, the party has thrown away 60 years of successful branding. To count my reaction as stunned or flummoxed would be me just searching for an adjective. Before Mr McCain’s shockingly unimpressive selection of Ms Palin, the Republicans’ case was that, in a world with three critical wars (Iraq, Afghanistan and terrorism), Democrats are weak on defence and lack a commitment to winning – and all the other trite phrases we have been subjected to.
But in Ms Palin the Republicans have a candidate who is a heartbeat (of a 72-year-old heart) away from the presidency, who has left North America only once. Her experience includes a mixed mayoral record in Wasilla, a town with a population of 7,000, and a half-term gubernatorial record in a state with the population of Memphis.

So what does the Palin choice mean? In the short term, in its most favourable light, it looks like a gimmick. Maybe one that energises the base but still a gimmick. The long-term effect is more consequential: the party has lost the high ground on national security.[.]
Anyone else seen the preview for this new CBS show? I saw some snippets and it looks very cool. Tonight I’m seeing its premiere at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills. Can’t wait! I need a good distraction from those silly polls (which oversampled Republicans) tonight.
Perhaps, the anti Christ will be a female of incredible popularity, charm, deviousness and vindictive to the extreme. I give you the Rethuglican VP candidate, Sarah Palin. By all accounts, she has bitten the hand of anyone who has ever helped her and intimidated all those who criticized her, even those, especially those, who were her victims. What opportunities she will have in these perilous times, and John McCain better be careful of one so formidable and so ambitious.
While I may not be The Messiah, I claim to be The Electric Messiah.
Actually, I’ve used this name for awhile after I read some liner notes in a Hendrix album about Jimi being The Electric Sex Messiah when I was a teenager. I dropped the Sex part of it for online use when I was young enough to worry about my parents’ reaction.
That video scares me. And the music doesn’t help.
I’ve been a lurker for years, but I’ve just wrote a diary that isn’t fluff, or so I think.

l feel a DRAFT.
mcstain agrees.
The faster, the better. I’m feeling the only way past this shit is through it’s heart.

James Carville weighs in – writing in the Financial Times, US Edition;

A friend just introduced me to this anti-spin site.
I’d love to see this as a prime time 527 ad. Let those ditzy white women that are flipping to McCain see just what they and their children are in for.
