Andi, I have that same wet dog smell going on here. I’m just hoping we don’t get any hurricane fallout…which I guess you’ll pretty definitely get, from the look of the weather maps.
I have an 8:30 yoga class today. What was I thinking? I should still be sleeping.
Thanks for the new cafe and with Head’s wonderful picture. Just looking a it makes me feel good.
Yep, we’re supposed to hurricane rain on Sunday. I think the drought should help some to keep flooding down since the ground has a long way to go before it’s saturated.
Not only is it Sunday but it looks like most of the rain is going to go north of us which has gotten way too much and miss our area which has gotten way too little. The weather gods are not kind.
I’m going to try and entice my mom into brunch a little later. Then we have to finish cleaning up the aftermath of the local Democrat Women’s Annual Yard Sale, which we host at our yard. Only one more table to pack up. Hopefully, there’s time for a nap later this afternoon;-)
Just hanging out this morning, a little football watching at 1:00 pm, then we’re off to the big city this afternoon to see brendan’s bluegrass band play.
I can’t believe how hot and sticky it’s gotten here. It feels like July.
That’s hysterical. I can’t believe she goes for the wooden chairs; my dogs always want the big comfy couch (which they have to sneak onto in the middle of the night).
I was actually a little cold before I got out of bed, which is a massive change from yesterday.
All right. I went out in the next town over on Saturday afternoon. Lots of people not home, probably an equal number of hard and soft Obama and McCain supporters, and a similar number of people who said they won’t decide until after the debates. Fortunately, the people with the NRA member sticker on their front door weren’t home… 🙂
I talked to someone who was out in South Philly yesterday, and the Obama support is so strong there that there isn’t much of anyone left to convince, so they’re moving on to the NE section.
Philly will. Also, I should mention that there is a TON of Obama support where I live, but that the town I was canvassing in is an odd mix sociodemographically.
I spoke w/ Andi briefly yesterday, and their power is out due to high winds from Ike. She wasn’t sure when it was going to be back, but they were estimating 3-4 days ……..
We got hit by Ike last night – high winds and lots of rain. No damage though.
Nothing but blue skies and crisp autumn air – my favorite. I hope that whatever comes your way today, it isn’t the three inches of rain that dumped on us all weekend.
Sad to say, ID, the city mice get their power before the country ones. We’re still out and no word on when we’ll get it back. I’m over in the land of the powered recharging my laptop and doing laundry.
… but I’m trying to be very low-key about it because I don’t want to tempt the Evil Eye (or the power company) to come and take the electricity away from me (still no phone).
A huge amount of Cincy is without power — my sister, my m-i-l (who lives in a retirement center), and Jim’s brother are all without power and aren’t supposed to get it back till Friday at the earliest.
As Winnie would say, “It was a blustery day!” Glad to hear you’re powered again. Any big trees down? A big maple branch landed smack in the middle of my little tomato patch.
The fire dept. was fairly close to you Mon. evening with a tree into a transformer. There was a brief small fire and the usual fireworks. That probably contributed to the delay in getting your power back.
There were two trees that took down wires in separate places on Mt. Liberty but neither hit a transformer so I’m not sure where that was. I think the thing that made it take so long was that it was a lot of work for a very few customers (only 5 houses affected and one of those is a vacation place) so we were pretty much at the end of the line — literally before they fixed it this morning, the Duke website showed only 86 customers in Brown County without power.
The transformer was on Valley Branch. Yeah, we used to live at the end of an REMC line when we were out by Yellowwood. I remeber what it was like to be last on the list. Sometimes it was several days. Glad there were no trees on your house!

Hope you’re now wide-awake for your yoga class.
Good morning Andi & CabinGirl! It does appear we’re in for a soggy weekend, doesn’t it?
Yeah and I don’t mind it. It looks pretty nice right now so I’m going to head out to the woods and see how much water is in the creeks.
Have a good one.
Just got back from yoga class…and it is so MUGGY out I feel like I’m melting.
Canvassing should be just delightful this afternoon, what with the free sauna and all.
Yeah, it’s supposed to be 95 today and tomorrow. I’ve never been so fucking sick of summer.
We’ve had a mellow AUgust and beginning of September, but I’m looking forward to some crisp fall days soon.
Not only is it Sunday but it looks like most of the rain is going to go north of us which has gotten way too much and miss our area which has gotten way too little. The weather gods are not kind.
That sucks.
We have so much moisture in the air it looks like a steam bath outside. I’m glad I did my canvassing yesterday instead of today.
Good morning you two! Boy, was I tickled to see the Alaskan Women Reject Sarah diary at Mudflats!
I loved that one. Especially since I tend to think Alaska is a state without many women in it…
What’s going on at your place today, ID?
I’m going to try and entice my mom into brunch a little later. Then we have to finish cleaning up the aftermath of the local Democrat Women’s Annual Yard Sale, which we host at our yard. Only one more table to pack up. Hopefully, there’s time for a nap later this afternoon;-)
Any fun stuff happening at the CG cabin?

It looks like we might get some rain this afternoon. I hope so.
Fortunately, I have some compensations.
Cute overload warning

Seems like a day to lounge around. Sometimes one chair isn’t big enough to contain all of the napping:
It might be big enough for the napping but sure ain’t big enough for those ears. 🙂
That’s hysterical. I can’t believe she goes for the wooden chairs; my dogs always want the big comfy couch (which they have to sneak onto in the middle of the night).
Somebody loves mom’s shoes.
Umm, those are size 15s. I’ll excuse you on the grounds that you must have though Bebo was a Chihuahua. 😉
Um, all I can say is wow.
Glad I don’t have to knit socks for those feet. 😉
Yeah, no cheap shoes for Jim — and he loves shoes.
It looks like I’m the Monday morning early riser today. I spend the wee hour before Andrew wakes up writing. Is everyone’s neighborhood drying out?
We seem to be on the downside temperature wise…which is a good thing. Yesterday was positively swamplike here.
I love that hour before everyone gets up, when everything is so quiet.
The air has been thick here, too. The temperatures stayed in the upper 70s, but the humidity was gross. It seems cooler this morning.
How’s canvassing going?
I was actually a little cold before I got out of bed, which is a massive change from yesterday.

Philly just has to come out in huge numbers.
I’ve got to go wake a little boy up to get ready for school. Talk to you later.
Philly will. Also, I should mention that there is a TON of Obama support where I live, but that the town I was canvassing in is an odd mix sociodemographically.
Thanks for going out, CG. It’s good to hear that Obama has strong support.
I spoke w/ Andi briefly yesterday, and their power is out due to high winds from Ike. She wasn’t sure when it was going to be back, but they were estimating 3-4 days ……..
We got hit by Ike last night – high winds and lots of rain. No damage though.
Thanks for letting us know. I’m glad things are okay up your way. Hopefully Andi’s power will be back on soon.
BTW, I’ve been enjoying everyone’s Foto Flog pictures. I’m glad you and Andi decided to do that.
We, too, had big winds last night and rain all weekend. Our lights flickered a couple of times, but that was it.
I just got back from walking Andrew to school and we found all sorts of odds and ends knocked from the trees.
Our power has finally returned. Hopefully that means Andi & Jim are back on too.
Hi ID, glad the power’s back on. It’s a threatening-looking day here.
Nothing but blue skies and crisp autumn air – my favorite. I hope that whatever comes your way today, it isn’t the three inches of rain that dumped on us all weekend.
It seems to be burning off, thankfully. It sounds like you had perfect walking-Andrew-to-school weather this morning. 🙂
We’ve got those blue skies here too Toni, now that the fog has lifted. Hopefully they’ll turn blue for you too CG.
They just did – your magic powers are working this morning.
Hmmm … wonder what else I could get them to work on. 😉
Glad to hear you’ve been connected … 🙂
Sad to say, ID, the city mice get their power before the country ones. We’re still out and no word on when we’ll get it back. I’m over in the land of the powered recharging my laptop and doing laundry.
So what can I say but let there be light.

Wow! If you could bottle up those rays, they’d keep you powered for a while. 🙂
Thanks for posting — I feared we would soon start to go into Andi withdrawal … 😉
… but I’m trying to be very low-key about it because I don’t want to tempt the Evil Eye (or the power company) to come and take the electricity away from me (still no phone).
wow. how long did you go without power?
54 hours — so compared to the folks in Cincy, I got off lucky.
wow, it’s so not like you to be a wallflower.
I am when it comes to the Evil Eye — my bubbe trained me well. 😉
At the risk of tempting the Power Gods, I’m glad you’re back on-line. How long were you out?
See answer above.
I’m glad too — we were one of the last folks in the county to get power back. The next county to the west still has several thousand customers out.
I have a sister in Cincinnati. I wonder if they lost power. There were a lot of downed trees up in Cleveland.
A huge amount of Cincy is without power — my sister, my m-i-l (who lives in a retirement center), and Jim’s brother are all without power and aren’t supposed to get it back till Friday at the earliest.

Ack! <remember>
Ah so only cross-country close. I’m glad to have missed the fireworks.
