. . . and meets a few clueless people Republican admirers:
Perhaps it was coincidence that the song “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was playing as Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin worked the crowd at the Irish Pub last night. […]
“I expect her to be president of the United States one day,” said Suzanne Haney, the Republican leader for the 2nd Ward in South Philadelphia, who gave Palin a $2 bill for luck. […]
Christine Olsen-Liney, 39, of King of Prussia, said she could relate to Palin because she has five kids, one with special needs. Palin recently gave birth to a son with Down syndrome.
“I think she can relate to the common mom,” said Olsen-Liney, who has a 3-year-old son with a neurological disorder that prevents him from speaking. “I like the fact that [she’s] somebody who recognizes that not enough is done for special-needs children.”
Yep, that’s Sarah Palin, always thinking of others. Just like your average ordinary Mom. At least those who believe in hunting witches, anyway.
Jeesh.
hey, are you picking on us philadelphians?
Well, there were some ruffians outside the bar casting aspersions Sarah’s way . . .

Sarah Palin was safe and in hiding at the Irish pub. The more informed conservatives are making a run on Immodium: CNN via TNR
Because she would seek to accomplish nothing. Its like McCain telling the vets he loves them and will take care of them. More talk, the actions of Palin and McCain show exactly what they will do for for veterans and disabled children….nothing.
So did she goto one of those “yuppy”Irish bars, that pretends to be in a working class neighborhood.

Hello Mrs. Johnson:
Maybe she was too plastered to comment.
The real Real reason. Ed Schultz explains:
clueless, not because she’s lacking in intellectual potential, but her mind is trapped in the right-wing-christian ideology box. is not a foundation for reasoning, learning, absorbing new concepts. that’s probably what threw off the campaign in deciding to choose her for vp candidate. probably told themselves “well, she can learn” – haha. it’s impossible to learn if your brain is in prison
I don’t know. I could be wrong, but I am not seeing a whole lot of intellectual potential there. My god, she cannot even bullshit in a way that looks coherent. She cannot even be coherent when she parrots the six talking points she was able to memorize.
guess I assume that because of how far she did get – gov of a state is no slouch. but i’ve seen up close what happens when ideology, especially a very restrictive ideology must override reason. It’s kind of like Hal in 2001 – ask the right question and they just go into malfunction mode. unfortunately for the repubs that’s pretty much any question about the current world situation. she probably would shine with questions like “do you think it’s part of the divine plan that you become president of the USA?” or “explain the Biblical predictions leading up to xyz oil pipeline”. raw intelligence is nothing without the other conditions that make it possible for a person to use it.
I don’t know. Her inability to present a coherent thought does not seem to be due to any ideology, but rather due to an ability to process information. What about her ideology, for example, would prevent her from giving a coherent response to Couric’s very straightforward, not particularly challenging question about the bailout – a question for which she must have been prepared? And yet, all poor Katy was able to get out of her was an incoherent word salad seasoned with non sequiturs.
In any case, the bottom line is that this woman is not equal to the job, and never will be.
You’ve GOT to be kidding. Bush was a governor, for gods’ sake. Watsisname was gov in MN. Lieberman is a senator. And none of them were even beauty queens.
But thank you for your touching retro faith in the American meritocracy. About makes my heart bleed.
certainly not about meritocracy – just saying it takes a certain basic intelligence to get that far – my point is no matter what kind of raw intelligence she starts with, the fact that her thinking is controlled by a very narrow ideology means she’s never really learned to reason outside very narrow channels. She has no concept of what the questions are – which is why she can’t access the “matching soundbite” they tried to teach her when asked.
Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker bravely concludes
we have a
This debate is Biden’s to lose.
The best the McCain campaign can hope for is that Palin can parrot canned talking points and get credit for style. It will help a lot if Biden makes gaffes such as witty remarks that fall flat or any mannerisms or remarks that can be spun as condescending or sexist. Even if the analysts on the MSM networks raise questions about her answers afterwards, if Biden should so much as sigh in the wrong place, more conservative networks might spin the debate to her advantage.
Palin has the true believers secured. While there are many informed independents who are truly scared by her, she may be able to win over some low-information independents on style alone. It’s not over till it’s over.
l think he can set the stage for her to epic fail by “getting inside her head”, and throw her off bigtime, by prefacing his comments with digs at what he knows are going to be her rote responses.
that would force her to think on her feet, a feat she’s clearly incapable of.
biden’s a clever and intelligent debater. he’ll tear her up….maybe in both defintions ot “tear”…she could have a melt-down moment.
it could be the most entertaining debate of them all.
If I were Biden, the way to do this is for him to attack McCain and leave her out of it. Then let her try and defend McCain.
That way he doesn’t appear to be beating up on a girl, and her ability to defend McCain will be limited by the number of talking points she has memorized.
Memorizing the talking points is clearly not sufficient. She also has to be able to parrot them coherently – something she was clearly unable to do in her interview with Couric.
I refuse to buy into the “low expectations” argument coming from the Republican camp. Who will claim a win, if she can name the President Mexico.
I don’t think she’s clueless, she does have a college degree.
Since when does a college degree guarantee non-cluelessness?
why buy into the Republicans theory of low expectations, if she can say “hi” the Repugs will spin it well she did better than we thought. She is a quick study like Laura Bush said and she will be Biden and if she does not she loses the debate..those are normal expectations of a VP.
The “clueless” expectation allows her to be sub-par and the spin the Repugs want.
she should be able to stand toe to toe with Joe Biden..is the text that got lost in this post.
Yeah, I read the part where it’s said that parents of special needs children would “have a friend and advocate in the White House.”
“But…but. Palin’s a Republican!” Republicans aren’t Democrats. Just because a Republican also has a special-needs child does not mean that ordinary citizens will get any help with their children.
Especially when her record shows that as governor of her state she actually cut funding for programs and education for people with special needs.
I’m only surprised that she got up and left the bar.
She waited ’til Last Call, downed a Jameson double neat in one toss, jumped behind the wheel of her Escalade with the moose head mounted on the hood and tore off into the night, a bootleg Ted Nugent CD blasting away.
With that visual you’ll enjoy Matt Taibi’s latest take on Palin.
love matt taibi
Most excellent!
