Who could have predicted that Sarah Palin would get her ass kicked in South Philly. Why did they have her talking to voters in the least Republican city in the country? What was she doing in Philly for days on end. And, for McCain’s benefit, Tony Luke’s isn’t a pizza joint.
I have no idea what the McCain campaign is doing. Why was John McCain in Iowa yesterday? Iowa hates John McCain. McCain’s strategists are completely incompetent. Obama is at his high-water mark in the polls a day before Sarah Palin debates Joe Biden. If Obama gets a boost from tomorrow’s debate I think we’ll see the tipping point where McCain is at risk of getting blown out Mondale-style.

And I suspect he had been having a series of mini strokes, that was first evidenced by a drooping eyelid that would not sync with the other, then a slight lisp and drooping face.
This would explain his anger, crankiness, forgetfulness, claiming things to be true that are false, and problem to respond to a question.
This is beyond politics. McCain seems to be having health problems yet his campaign is, to McCain’s detriment, covering it up and the media will not ask questions
That could be a concern.
If he has had facial tics for years, it wouldn’t concern me that much. The confusion that he frequently exhibits ought to be a huge concern however.
Whoo, check out the latest CNN polls:
FLORIDA: Obama 51, McCain 47
MINNESOTA: Obama 54, McCain 43
MISSOURI: Obama 49, McCain 48
NEVADA: Obama 51, McCain 47
VIRGINIA: Obama 53, McCain 44

Makes one swoon, doesn’t it? We don’t have to do a thing.
Other than vote and make sure our votes are actually, you know, counted.
No, I think we have to work even harder. This is put boot on throat time, not time to let up.
We know how many dirty tricks they have up their sleeves. We need to make them irrelevant.
anyone caught the NPR interview of McCain this morning?
I choked on my toast and coffee. No kidding. Glad others caught it.
.
Propelled by concerns over the financial crisis and a return of support from female voters, Barack Obama has opened a formidable 7-point lead over John McCain, reaching the 50% threshold among likely voters for the first time in the general campaign for President, according to a new TIME poll.
McCain is losing female voters faster than Sarah Palin attracted them after the Republican National Convention. Obama leads McCain by 17 points with women, 55%-38%. Before the conventions, women preferred Obama by a margin of 10 points, 49%-39%. After McCain picked Palin as his running mate, the gap narrowed to a virtual tie, with Obama holding a 1-point margin, 48%-47%.

where’s hillary?………<crickets>
she spoke earlier and said the same things.
I waiting for McCain’s speech. As TPM notes
I hope McCain reads: IMF adds to pressure on Congress to approve bail-out
Institutions are caught up in the credit squeeze. After the Wachovia demise Universities and other institutions – hospitals etc are scrambling to get new lines of credit. U of VT got $79 million tied up in a fund over which Wachovia was the trustee. They were allowed a 10% withdrawal, another 10% set for December and they may get the rest of it in 2010.
hardly. it appears things have changed since this press release sep 29:
don’t worry, be happy.
The University spokesperson was interviewed during the 5:30 PM news segment.- 2.hrs ago Bloomberg has it:
Wachovia Limits Access to Fund for College Operations (Update1)

Uuuum
hmmm…indeed.
it would appear the citicorp deal is contingent on something extraneous to, but critical for, the take-over agreement of wachovia to work as struuctured, eh.
they’re obviously in much worse condition than what has been admitted.
interesting.
more than we know. Deliberately kept in the dark. Only 8 days ago Wachovia was reported as a suitor for WaMu.
A colleague sent me this article Take a read. Wish I’d find easy instruction in html to post images from elsewhere. Same colleague sent me a photo shop image of Bernanke and Paulson in an enlarged sieve, (the shape of a canoe), on the ocean riding the waves. Both had toddler bathtub toys, hard at work – bailing water. Of course not realizing they’re in a sieve, not an ocean worthy boat.
Too funny. But serious.
thanks. that particular historical reference has been made in a number of places. from that, it appears gramm, citi, sachs, and subsequently, paulson may have ulterior motives, eh.
man, it’s crooked and intertwined out there, not that anyone should be surprised at this point in the game.
aside from that. to post pics, download the image to your desk top, typically it’ll be a jpeg or gif….then you can use your image hosting site, or tinypic if you don’t have one.
follow the cues, copy the “direct link” url and html format it [auto format @ BT] thusly:
< img src=URL > (close brackets)
preview is your friend, esp if the image is largeer than 400 pixels. if that’s the case use:
< img width=400 src=URL > (close brackets)
hope that helps.
“If Obama gets a boost from tomorrow’s debate…“
And if McCain gets a boost instead?
Don’t laugh, it could happen. If she manages to simultaneously string two words together in a coherent way, turns loose her inner hockey mom, and goes all cute and adorable on Biden, and especially if Biden makes one false move, it COULD help McCain.
I’m just sayin’ – be prepared.
Don’t misunderestimate this woman. She is a human torpedo, and has no morals whatsoever. She will do anything to win. And she might win.
McCain is losing right now partly because Palin is considered to be an idiot. If this meme is cancelled tomorrow, McCain will get a bounce.
Yep – that’s what I mean. And she wouldn’t have to do much either.
I heard someone who debated against her numerous times in AK, and he says she is very masterful at very impressively saying nothing.
It seems she is at her best when reading a prepared speech using a teleprompter. That’s what she did at the convention, and the hard-core Republicans loved it.
Even the debates in Alaska she had notecards in front of her that she was reading from.
The media narrative however is that she babbles and doesn’t answer the question. Probably more just to evade the question. I suspect that she has gotten by over the years using BS, catty remarks and her good looks to skate by.
“That’s what she did at the convention, and the hard-core Republicans loved it.“
More than just the hard-core Republicans loved it.
and McCain will close the gap somewhat.
She is not to be despised in a debate. She has debated in several cases.
Most importantly, she is a very good television person. She was a sportscaster, for god’s sake. That means that she is able to talk at nauseum about piffle, and have it sound somewhat coherent. She will do that tomorrow. She will stall, answer some questions, and bend the questions invariably to “John McCain is a great American who was a POW”
yeah but look at the press she’s getting that’ll reach more people:
The debate is meaningless.
The spin AFTER the debate is the key. McSame mangled the debate spin and the media clearly stated that Obama won because he acquitted himself in a situation where McSame had the advantage.
The same will be said of Palin tomorrow night.
And I’m just a hacky mam with small town values just like you!
just “an everyday, working-class American”…yeah, sure……not rich by mcstain’s stds, but def on the high side of life compared to those who champion her.
This sucker is gonna blow if we don’t do something.
I will feel a LOT better if Palin falls on her face tomorrow. Then I will drop my cynicism–somewhat.
She has been on TV for years. She’s a pro. She will do very well indeed.
Plus she has a double standard working in her favor. In one of her debates, she basically insulted Tony Knowles and said she would hire him to be her chef. If he had something similar the other way around, Knowles charred corpse would have been thrown off the Bridge to Nowhere.
I know the CW is that Biden should ignore Palin and say as little as possible. But I think he should study the Katie Couric interviews for ways to trip her up and get her off message. He doesn’t have to bully or patronize her, but he could try to get in some specific follow-up questions during his rebuttal time.
Perhaps Gwen Ifill will demand some specifics from Palin. But if she doesn’t, and if Palin tries to go with canned response lines, Biden should try to engage her. No lecturing, no meanness, just simple questions like “Well in that case, governor, how would you propose enlisting Russia’s support in the standoff with Iran?”
Foreign policy has long been a subject where Republicans feel proud of their knowledge and positions. So if Biden can press her on real foreign policy situations where Republicans have a vested interest (China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, etc) then it would be that much harder to defend her incompetence if she is unable to answer. Palin is getting most of her support from Republican men, so this is an area where Biden could really hurt her badly.
Oh, and during the debate Biden shouldn’t help out by explaining McCain’s position for her.
He needs to play her like a 20 lb trout on a 2 lb line. No overbearing stuff, no pontificating, no Mr. Big Senator.
I think he will do well, myself. He’s a plain guy, and not full of himself. He’s goofy, and a little goofy is a good thing.
Remember this:
from the debates?
Yes. My favorite debate moment from this year so far, and one of my top 5 all time!
Next to Benson’s take-down of Quayle, that was my favorite debate moment of all time. I hadn’t laughed that hard in a very long time.
I love how his lip quivered a few times, making it that much more apparent how monumentally difficult it was for him to not expound upon his awesome one word answer.
The unusual thing about that comment of hers, and McCain’s restatement? They’ll strike inside Pakistan without warning or permission… right? They say that it is stupid and naive to telegraph intentions to another country… right?
We condemned the Japanese for striking at Pearl Harbor without warning.
We condemned them as cowards.
We condemned them for violating the rules of war.
We condemned them, and then rounded up all Americans of Japanese ancestry, took their property and land, and imprisoned them for years as group punishment… just in case they were sneaky deceitful murderers like their distant cousins.
Didn’t McCain’s father and grandfather have something to say around the dinner table about fighting fairly? Didn’t they ever discuss war crimes with him?
How many civilians died that morning?
Without warning.
