No matter what happens in Iraq, just remember we are winning the war and we will continue to be victorious, even if there are the occasional outbreaks of manageable violence:
BAGHDAD (AFP) — Twin suicide bombings near Shiite mosques in Baghdad on Thursday killed at least 16 people as worshippers celebrated Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, officials said.
Another six people were shot dead in an ambush in a restive city north of the capital, they said.
All sarcasm aside, please recall the constant TV news coverage of the Virginia Tech shooter last year, and compare that with the utter lack of coverage about this incident. Then remember all the outrage at the proposal to spend billions on a bailout rescue of our financial system and round the clock media coverage of that issue, and contrast that with the billions we are spending to occupy Iraq each month with 150,000 American troops, and the incredibly diminished coverage of that conflict on our TV screens.
In the one case people are stating that we are just “throwing money at the problem” without any idea if it will work. And in the other . . . ?
I would also point out that our efforts in Afghanistan are (not surprisingly) meeting with failure as well..

We are reaping a very gr1evous harvest of our stupidity and immorality in Iraq; meanwhile, our economy is crumbling at home and heading straight into depression. And, the Americans seem clueless and unable to distinguish liars and thieves from those who tell the truth and are honest.
Soon, we shall not be able to afford our various engagements in the Mideast and will, perforce, have to withdraw our various military units. Soon, the economy will crash as the real cost of toxic derivatives, in the trillions and trillions of dollars, becomes known. The financial elite have some idea, that is why they are pulling their money out of banks and putting it into bullion and gold coins.
And these various bailouts, are like putting lipstick on a financial pig. It’s still a pig, no matter how much the program is touted.
The days of empire were so short; it is time now for the suffering to begin. I wonder what will be left of the American Democracy when the dust finally settles.
“We are reaping a very gr1evous harvest of our stupidity and immorality in Iraq“
You are reaping nothing. It is Iraqis that are reaping a grievous harvest, not you.
Are the oil contracts all signed yet?
The pursuit of those contracts is a fool’s errand. But you knew that.
It is nearly unbearable to think of the loss of life and culture that is ongoing there, virtually unnoticed as we grapple with the complexities of Sarah’s hair. I know Joe’s son depoloys on Friday and this will be a difficult debate for him tonight on the that eve and strangely with Palin’s son already there it becomes a strange bond between them.
“It is nearly unbearable to think of the loss of life and culture that is ongoing there“
Thank you for that. Seriously, it is about time Americans got over themselves, and realized that not everything is about them and their “pain”.
And I have no sympathy for Biden. His son is taking part in this monumental international crime from a very safe place. He won’t leave the safety and comfort of whatever well-appointed, well-protected base he will operate from.
And neither will Palin’s son, who in any case should be rejoicing to be on “a task that is from God”.
Save your sympathy for the true victims, who have never once been given any choice in the matter – you know, the Iraqis?
“the utter lack of coverage about this incident.“
I am less concerned about the utter lack of coverage about this incident (which is not an isolated incident, although it is made to appear that way) than I am about the utter lack of coverage of the dozens of even more violent incidents that have take place each day perpetrated by American forces, including the U.S.-hired mercenaries and/or their Iraqi proxies. THAT is what continues to be hidden from view day after day week after week and year after year so to make it appear as if the only violence, the only killing, and the only destruction is on the part of Iraqis, so-called “Al Qa`eda”, so-called “insurgents”, etc.
