I voted this afternoon so I can devote the whole day Tues. to babysitting my precinct and doing last minute GOTV stuff. I liked voting on a very substantial, heavy duty, countable & verifiable ballot, too!
Good morning, ladies!
Yohoo – new modem arrived last night. (Almost missed it. I was out for an errand and coming back I saw the UPS-guy making a delivery a few doors down from mine. In the dark, I barely saw the note from UPS next to my door. Ran down the street and intercepted my package 🙂 )
I must be channeling olivia this morning because I read that as I want to play hockey today and I was trying to picture you as a high-sticking enforcer. 🙂
It’s starting to get cold down here. At night we’ve been in the low 30’s and the other day our high was in the upper 50’s. How I do love this weather!!!!!
I saw on the news about the snow falling up North. Last year we were lucky in that we got a little bit of snow. This year I’m hoping for the same thing.
I was reading from earlier about the trouble you were having with your modem. Glad to hear you’ve gotten a new one.
Wow, FM and SN in the cafe on the same day? Nice to see you both. 🙂
Is it getting cooler down your way, FM? It’s chilly enough here that the new (draft-blocking!) storm door has made a noticeable difference in the temperature of the living room here.
Great menu, and I also checked the “Reviews” tab. Absolutely great reviews all the way.
From the menu, it looks like you can gain weight just by entering the premises.
Good to see you too. Yep it’s getting cooler (well low 30’s I would say is cold) down here. We have storm doors here, but the door leading to the patio doesn’t. We’re going to have to replace it though. It seems the house has shifted over the years and when you close the door, unless you use the dead bolt, you can see little openings around the edge of the door. I’ve got to buy some of that foam stripping to put on the door casing to stop the draft.
Hope ya’ll, Ask and Curly have a good w/e together.
I know what you mean about the house shifting, it seems that nothing here is actually square either. And we had a hellacious draft around the edges of the old door that probably would have taken inch- thick foam…
The other nice thing is that the dogs can no longer jump against the door to open it…they have a terrible habit of forgetting to close the door behind them. 😉
If only I could teach George how to open the door and then trust him to stay outside by himself.
It’s during the winter that I really wish I had a fenced in back yard. I’ll take him out and I’ll be freezing, and I’ll call him to come in and he’ll just ignore me. With a fenced in back yard, I would just put him out until he was yapping to come back in. Who knows, I might just ignore him and let him get a little bit cold. 🙂
Oh yeah!
curly lives just half a block from the route – at a looong, slow incline along Central Park (just under 2 miles from the finish line). Called young asklet last night to check if he wanted to come up here to watch on Sunday. Thought I had to bribe him with expectations of birthday cake to get him here (we both have the day coming up), but he eagerly agreed to come before my question was even finished.
I bet the marathon is fun, especially near the end. My older brother was a marathoner, but I only ever got to watch him at the start of the race and usually just looked for him in the crowd (unsuccessfully) later on teevee.
My niece ran in it a couple of times but I wasn’t optimistic enough about getting to see to actually watch — for some reason, two hours of watching people trying to ignore the pain they’re in doesn’t entice me (though it’s better than watching golf).
That may have something to do with why I saw people off at the start (that, and their need for someone else to take the car home.)…
How are you this fine Hallowe’en morning? I need to dig through my pics for some from Halloweens past for the foto flog…they’re all on my external drive, and I’m being lazy.
I was going to post a comment to you and Olivia over in FFF to tell you to get a room but I didn’t want to bust the margins even worse than you two did. ;P
If I could get you and olivia to come Indiana, Jim would join in and we could make a foursome. Heck so would Giddy, Sniff, and Bebo and we could make it a sevensome.
How are you this morning? I’m looking forward to my yoga class, the time change, the election season coming to an end (someone stole our Obama sign again-don’t they know that just means another $5 for Obama?), maybe a nice walk at Valley Forge this afternoon.
On the Halloween front, CBtY traded me candy for some computer time this morning. What a wheeler-dealer.
I’m doing fairly well, but I’m so out of my routine that I’ve been up all night. Maybe in a week or two I’ll get back into my normal pattern.
I had my lights off last night so no trick or treaters here. I did glance out the window from time to time and it seemed like there were less kids running around than last year.
Nope. I went and talked to the woman who is actually an old classmate of mine. She had told my b-i-l to have me drop by her shop. She figured to get me out of the house I might like to volunteer to do some part time work for her. I told her I’m looking for any and all part time jobs I can find. I told her if she had a job come open to call me.
I did retail for awhile after I retired. I liked meeting and talking with the people, but I was on my feet all the time. I would always be totally exhausted everyday when I got home. I came to the conclusion my back end is made more for sitting and that’s the kind of job I needed. 🙂
I know what you mean about retail and being on your feet all day. We stood in line for the Obama rally a few days ago for 2.5 hours and then another hour when he was speaking and then another hour waiting for the bus. My lower back is killing me. But it was worth it.
Things my way are fun and weird and worrying all at the same time.
It might be just depending on how much I’d be on my feet. What I’m really looking for is part time CEO of a fortune 500 company. Though I haven’t received any call yet. :O
Even in this high-growth area that I’m living in it’s tough to find a job. So I can imagine it’s harder down in your little town. I’m finding that the jobs I am qualified for pay only slightly more than minimum wage and have no benefits. It really fucking sucks to be in this position at our advanced ages, doesn’t it?
Yep it really does suck. I have one advantage of being retired from the mil. I do have a little bit of money coming in, but that’s mostly eaten up by bills. However, the health insurance is the big one.
I guess with my age that’s one of the reasons I’m looking for a lot of part time jobs.
Well next year put out big signs on the road. You could say something like Gingerbread House down this road. Is anyone out there named Hansel or Gretel?
I could dig out my old vampire teeth (good for sucking blood from taxpayers).
We had about 75 kids last night, including friends who are Big Brothers – Big Sisters with their little Bro & Sis. He (the Big Brother) was wearing the aforementioned vampire fangs (his, not mine).
Hi CabinGirl, just stopped by for a quick, after lunch visit. I’m working on an Excel workbook to display the precinct by precinct vote tally at the after-election victory celebration as the results come in.
Yeah, it is chilly – 40 at the moment. But it is only half a block to curly’s, so we’ll be in and out. The crowds aren’t too dense way up Central Park – no problem to get a good view.
We’re having Indian summer here with gorgeous fall color. It was 70 here yesterday and will be in the 70s through Wednesday so I did my own mini-marathon yesterday and took a three hike in the woods. And now that DST is over, I can get going even earlier (like now, say the dogs)
Hope you have a good time at the marathon and don’t get too cold.
Good post ID. I haven’t listened to Chicago in so long.
We’re been having temps of 70’s daytime and 40’s nighttime. I’m kind of ready for some thunderstorms or something. Clear blue skies and brisk weather are wonderful, but it does get kind of boring.
Everything here is kind of poking along. That week of being nice to have my brother and sil here is gone, and now I’m looking forward to their departure. If for nothing else so George will stop his barking.
As I told some other people, the time change isn’t really affecting me that much. For one, I’m completely out of routine. Another is because I don’t own a wrist watch and I never changed my room clock from the spring forward time. I figured why change it when it’s going to swing back to the correct time anyway. Another example of excellence through slacking. 😉
That looks like a most unslackerly thing to do. If I were ever in a race, I think I would like it to be in motorized chairs. We could see who had the fastest chair and whose battery ran out first. 🙂
New day, new cafe…
Who else is ready for this 2-year election season to end right NOW?
AndiF’s theme for this week’s Friday Foto Flogging is here.
why it’s continuing to go on. Aren’t these people paying attention!?!
And thanks for linking to the FFF reminder comment.
I voted this afternoon so I can devote the whole day Tues. to babysitting my precinct and doing last minute GOTV stuff. I liked voting on a very substantial, heavy duty, countable & verifiable ballot, too!

Yea! There’s nothing like a new gadget to brighten one’s day, especially when the old one has gasped its last;-)
are so fine that everyone thinks they hung the moon.

Good morning, Andi!
I want to play hookey today…
I must be channeling olivia this morning because I read that as I want to play hockey today and I was trying to picture you as a high-sticking enforcer. 🙂
Heh, I’d have to seriously brush up on the skating skills first.
Anyway, no hookey/hockey today, time to get going.
Or hookah. 😉
What have you got? 😉
Good morning Andi, Ask and Boran.
It’s starting to get cold down here. At night we’ve been in the low 30’s and the other day our high was in the upper 50’s. How I do love this weather!!!!!
Hope everyone is doing fine and stay warm.
FM
Good morning, FM!
Just spoke with swimmer – they’ve already had their first snowfall up in Maine. Forecast for Halloween is 17!
I saw on the news about the snow falling up North. Last year we were lucky in that we got a little bit of snow. This year I’m hoping for the same thing.
I was reading from earlier about the trouble you were having with your modem. Glad to hear you’ve gotten a new one.
Well, hey FM. Good to see you.
Hi SN.
How have you been doing? Are you starting to enjoy the cold weather? 😉
Good to see (visualize?) both of you.
Hi Andi.
Good to see (visualize) you too. Of course since I’ve only ever put up a picture of George, I guess you’ll have to visualize him while reading me. 🙂
Ah but that’s the thing about internet only buddies, I can come up with whatever image I want and it will always be the right one.
Dogs are insisting we go for walk — it’s gorgeous out — so I’m going to unrelunctantly give in.
See ya.
Yes I guess you’re right about the image, but George does look better than me. 😉
Have a good walk!
See ya.
Wow, FM and SN in the cafe on the same day? Nice to see you both. 🙂
Is it getting cooler down your way, FM? It’s chilly enough here that the new (draft-blocking!) storm door has made a noticeable difference in the temperature of the living room here.
I hope you go to visit curly, I hope you do have time to go to my niece’s place — I’d love to hear what you think of it.
The cup cake place? I forgot about that and have not checked it out. What was the name again?
Maybe we could all go there in honor of your birthday… 🙂
Well, it’s no secret what I want for my birthday this year…
Sounds like a great plan. 🙂
And SN’s right — it’s called Sweet Revenge. The street is 62 Carmine St.
Here’s the link to the page that has the link to the menu (in the blue-shaded area to the right).
Great menu, and I also checked the “Reviews” tab. Absolutely great reviews all the way.
From the menu, it looks like you can gain weight just by entering the premises.
Nah, you eat something that good, all the calories are good for you too. 🙂
Hmm, I think it’s Sweet Revenge…
Andi had put up a link to their web site, and I was trying to find it, but couldn’t.
I remember their menu looked really great.
Dammit, now I’m thinking about cupcakes…
Red velvet with cream cheese frosting, please.
Just about anything with cream cheese frosting. 🙂
Make yourself a batch of them. 🙂
You’re so mean, FM. That was my blatant attempt to have YOU make them and send them to me.
What do you think I was doing? That was my blatant attempt to have you make them and send them to me. 😉
Hi CG.

awaits your spookiness. Come on over and show us what you got or the Goblins will get you!
Good morning, Andi!
TFSMIF – busy weekend, Halloween & NY Marathon.
Do you watch the marathon?
Oh yeah!
curly lives just half a block from the route – at a looong, slow incline along Central Park (just under 2 miles from the finish line). Called young asklet last night to check if he wanted to come up here to watch on Sunday. Thought I had to bribe him with expectations of birthday cake to get him here (we both have the day coming up), but he eagerly agreed to come before my question was even finished.

MMMmm…cake.

well get busy and get those pics woman or those goblins will be heading over to PA right away (oops, my mistake that wasn’t a goblin, it was McCain).
Last day of DST, even better yay.

Good morning Andi.
Is it this w/e we change over? When you don’t own a wristwatch it’s kind of hard to keep up with this stuff. 🙂
Yep, 2:00 a.m. Sunday.
I was going to post a comment to you and Olivia over in FFF to tell you to get a room but I didn’t want to bust the margins even worse than you two did. ;P
I was waiting for you so we would have a threesome. 😛
Anyway, I think the margins were busted long before I got there. 🙂
If I could get you and olivia to come Indiana, Jim would join in and we could make a foursome. Heck so would Giddy, Sniff, and Bebo and we could make it a sevensome.
I’m all for that, but you know Olivia, she won’t budge. 🙂
Oh no, not true any more — her trip to Europe has changed all that. So all we really have to do is pry you out of Alabama. 😛
I was hoping you wouldn’t connect the dots on that one. 🙂
And now that gas prices are down, we could actually afford to do just that. 😉
Can I bring my crew and make it an elevensome? 🙂
Hi CG.
I think that would be great. Of course Andi and Jim would have to build a guest cottage to house everyone. 🙂
I could just bring my tent…
How are you this morning? I’m looking forward to my yoga class, the time change, the election season coming to an end (someone stole our Obama sign again-don’t they know that just means another $5 for Obama?), maybe a nice walk at Valley Forge this afternoon.

I had my lights off last night so no trick or treaters here. I did glance out the window from time to time and it seemed like there were less kids running around than last year.
Are you starting work soon?
Bummer. I hate retail; I’ve got the wrong personality for it but I bet you’d be great.
I did retail for awhile after I retired. I liked meeting and talking with the people, but I was on my feet all the time. I would always be totally exhausted everyday when I got home. I came to the conclusion my back end is made more for sitting and that’s the kind of job I needed. 🙂
Please promise us you won’t stoop to being a Wal-Mart greeter. I’m hoping they’re holding that spot open for McCain.
No problem; we’ll just take over the camp down the hill.
Hiya Jim.
I keep coming up with excuses why I can’t leave here, and ya’ll keep coming up with answers. I’ll still blame it on Olivia though. 🙂
“It’s not my fault.” My class’s motto this year. It always sounds better when a motto is in Latin: Is est non meus mendum.
Guess it’s time to consider getting a kingsize bed. 🙂
Wow, what a talkative bunch this morning. All this talk of threesomes really woke me up!
Hah! I knew that would have you commenting. 🙂
Yeah, there’s nothing like sexual innuendo in the early morning to get yer blood flowing.
How are things down your way? Is the cement pond frozen over yet?
Yep I remember the days…… 🙂
Nope its not frozen over yet, although I keep waiting.
Everything going OK up your way?
I know what you mean about retail and being on your feet all day. We stood in line for the Obama rally a few days ago for 2.5 hours and then another hour when he was speaking and then another hour waiting for the bus. My lower back is killing me. But it was worth it.
Things my way are fun and weird and worrying all at the same time.
Yep the retail thing was when I was younger and didn’t have the problems with my back and legs. I really couldn’t see doing something like that now.
Glad to hear things are fun and weird, and I’m hoping that outweighs the worrying.
so I’m moving here to answer you.
So it sounds like a part-time retail job would be perfect.
It’s the magic word of the day.
Did you have a lot of kids come by for Halloween.
Yeah, we ran out of candy and I had six value-sized bags of it.
Did you get to give anyone a poison apple?
I’m jealous.
In 29 years, there has been one trick-or-treater at our house and that was pre-arranged. 🙁
Well gee Andi, it’s not like you live in the middle of a big neighborhood. 😉
Yeah but there ARE kids — I’ve had to sit behind the damn school buses often enough.
Well next year put out big signs on the road. You could say something like Gingerbread House down this road. Is anyone out there named Hansel or Gretel?
I once worked with a woman named Cinderella so it’s entirely possible.
You could arrange to go to Indianadem’s house and pass out candy with him next year.
Or maybe he’d dress and up and come here — you know these politicians … anything for a vote.
A blood-sucking socialist marxist communist terrorist islamist democrat — you’ve got my vote.
And don’t forget pinko unionist!
Well gotta go, George is whinning to go out, and I’m starting to get sleepy. I think it’s time for a nap.
Everyone have a good weekend.
I’m following FM out the door (literally the dogs are giving me no peace about going for a walk).
Hope everybody has a fine day.
Wow, look how chatty everyone was tis morning while I was at yoga…and now I’m back and the place is empty. Sigh.
Hi CabinGirl, just stopped by for a quick, after lunch visit. I’m working on an Excel workbook to display the precinct by precinct vote tally at the after-election victory celebration as the results come in.
Dog don’t get the “Fall Back” concept.
Good morning!
What did they do? Any injuries?
Nothing serious — just a lot of vociferous insistence that it was breakfast time, no matter what the clock said.
Still planning to go watch the marathon? Looks like it’ll be a pretty nice day (if a little bit chilly).
Yeah, it is chilly – 40 at the moment. But it is only half a block to curly’s, so we’ll be in and out. The crowds aren’t too dense way up Central Park – no problem to get a good view.

See ya.
It was beautiful here yesterday, a bit colder here today. Too bad I had to spend much of it doing the leaves.
Good morning all!
Good morning ID, Andi, Ask and Boran.
Good post ID. I haven’t listened to Chicago in so long.

“Another example of excellence through slacking.”
Family Man, you are, without a doubt, a true master!
I guess I just have a gift. :O
Back in for a little break from watching the marathon.
Here’s the women’s winner @ 98th Street – just over two miles from the finish:
Paula Radcliffe
Hi Ask.
That looks like a most unslackerly thing to do. If I were ever in a race, I think I would like it to be in motorized chairs. We could see who had the fastest chair and whose battery ran out first. 🙂
Hope you’re enjoying yourself and stay warm.
We’re having some coffee & cake inside. Soon out again to see the masses passing by.
Sounds like you’re having fun. I’m trying to remember when we had masses even standing around here. Can’t seem to bring up a memory of that. 🙂
Well have fun and enjoy.
Hi ask! Thanks for the marathon photo. Manhattan seems much greener than I remember (late 60’s, IIRC).
Hi, we’re on the CP side of 5th Ave looking east into 98th St. Some nice, green blocks just there.
Fall colors are late this year in the city area.
She’s pretty amazing. And how nice for her to win after her poor showing in Beijing!
Well, her olympic career has not been a success.
In Athens 2004, she did not complete – but came back to win the NYC marathon later that year as well.
because very soon I won’t have to see an election commercials for a very long time.
