MSNCB is reporting that Rahm Emanuel has accepted the position of White House COS in the Obama administration.
A senior Obama advisor confirms to NBC News that Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel has accepted the job of Chief of Staff for the Obama White House.
Not so fast. They’ve altered the headline back to ‘offered’, and even that is a suspect rumor. Unless and until the Obama camp gets a point person assigned to communications, expect this type of ‘trial balloon’ crap to continue. ‘Democratic sources’ indeed. Bah.
what’s your opinion on Rahm as CoS?
Doesn’t feel right. Like bringing a junkyard dog to the ‘Best of Show’. What’s your take?
Obama is throwing the beast a steak to hopefully keep him busy….
that could be a very effective smart move —get legislation done in Congress and he knows the WH. It’s also to the GOP it’s a drop dead message. Rahm Emanuel does not play nice.
It’s a good offer from Obama if the rumors are more than. I read Rahm aspires to be Speaker of the House but it may be a 8 year stand in line wait.
Better to keep Emanuel close….and out of trouble. And good will gesture to the North Shore. Palestine will be on Obama’s mind, make no doubt. He just can’t say it’s a priority.
IMO sometimes you have to go around to reach a destination.
I don’t like it.
It does send a variety of messages, some of them good. Rahm is a partisan brawler and extremely shrewd and tough. That has its advantages. Unfortunately, as we saw with Rove, having people that are too political in vital positions can be a problem. And I just don’t trust Rahm, or agree with him on several keys issues.
So, I don’t like it, but it isn’t all bad.
Agreed – especially the ‘Rove’ part:
truthout: Howard Dean’s 50-State Strategy Pays Off:
The chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), Rahm Emanuel, stormed out of Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairman Howard Dean’s office in May after an expletive-filled tirade against the DNC’s spending too much money, too early, in “non-battleground states.” Emanuel was concerned the DNC would be broke and not on the playing field in November. The opposite was true, and the playing field was larger due to the early investment.
Still remember him claiming credit for the increase in seats after slamming Dean’s policy. Rank opportunist.
Good. They will remember his soft spots. I am sure no one has forgotten.
