It’s quaint to go back and read this Washington Post analysis of the Hamas victory in the 2006 elections. I mean, people were pretending that they’d actually get a chance to govern.
This link gives very instructive maps of the shift in landownership from Palestinians to Israelis over the past century.
The maps show the trend quite clearly — Israeli expansion at Palestine expense. What a tragic way to solve human problems. If we can’t evolve past this aggressive approach, we don’t make it as a human species, IMO. Guess our individual and collective future is in all our hands.
And it is not finished by any stretch of the imagination. Check the International Solidarity Movement site for weekly advances in the slow but inexorable colonization of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Gaza is not really about a few rockets or Israeli lives. It is about land and the need for a scapegoat to continue the grab.
Oh, my god, I finally had time to watch this. He lost me at 3:30 with “Hamas would like to see every Jew in Israel killed”. What a deep disappointment to hear someone of Bill Moyers’ credibility perpetuating and dignifying that slanderous lie.
And then there was the bit about how this is an ancient conflict going back to Biblical times when it is, in fact, about a century old and a result of a movement by European Jews to create an ethnocratic Jewish state in a land with an existing overwhelmingly non-Jewish population.
