There are something like 85 hours left of the Bush administration. It’s less than 10 degrees here and people are moving in a frigid, yet giddy, manner in the direction of the Capitol. It seems strange that it should end this way…almost in a whimper, yet with Gaza ablaze. It’s too cold to think much, much less to really reflect.
Someone mentioned cartoons. Or maybe comics. Do you have a favorite?
The Far Side.
Nothing compares to it. He even frequently used my first name.
Then he quit when you are supposed to…. on top.

I’ve been subscribing to Funny Times for years. Its the closest thing to a Mad for political junkies I could find.
FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS! FOUR! MORE! DAYS!

As to cartoons, Phineas and Ferb.
I didn’t see much in the way of news today. But given that it was the last Friday afternoon of the Bush administration, I was expecting that the administration was going to release some truly godawful stuff to the press in hopes of burying it in the most obscure part of the news cycle.

decidedly non-frivolous.

Oh come on! I’m talking cartoons!
Who remembers Rocky and Bullwinkel?
Who remembers……….
Come on people I’m asking cartoons.
There was quite a cartoon thread here not long ago. Maybe people are weary of the subject now. Sorry if you missed it.
of Rocky and Bullwinkel.
When those two comics ended, it was a real tragedy.
Off the cartoon topic, I was just thinking to myself that in the next six months, Obama will be more powerful than anyone has been except for Bush immediately post-9/11. Obama could literally demand a single-payer health care plan and get it.
I don’t think Obama knows what kind of power he has right now. Nor do I think he would plan to use it for truly bold action (look at the weak amount of infrastructure funding in the stimulus bill). But Obama literally has the power to move mountains right now, at least domestically. I hope at one of these meet-and-greets that he has, someone gets it across that Obama has the power to succeed where every Democrat since FDR has failed. And that power will be fleeting.
Best Comics Ever:
Newspaper: Krazy Kat
Magazine (comicbook): Tie. Howard the Duck (no. really.), Sandman.
Graphic Novel: The Watchman (Movie is coming!!!)
Sandman is a graphic novel, too, not a magazine. As good or possibly better than Watchman. Love me some Neil Gaiman.
Sandman came out with spine staples first and had several previous runs before the currently famous series. But I learned long ago not to geek out on comix in public.
