They slept through it. CBtE has a half-day today, followed by a 4-day weekend. THey’ll never leave…
As for weather, we had all of the above. Everything was so wet last night that I’m sure icy roads were a problem this morning.
I took advantage of the lousy weather and did all of my pharmacy continuing education requirements yesterday, just need to mail them off to the licensing board today. A not-so-small accomplishment.
What are you and Jim up to today? Glad you still have…ack, I won’t complete that sentence so as not to jinx you. 🙂
Nothing much. I’m sure another walk is in the works but it will probably be shorter than yesterday’s. It was exhausting for humans and dogs to slog through the snow and the sleet (which would hold me momentarily and then I would posthole through).
Today should be fairly quiet too. I actually got some useful stuff done in the database yesterday. My Second-in-command made it in too – from the far southern part of the county. A truly amazing woman!
The snow isn’t a problem. It’s the sleet underneath which is as slick as an ice rink. And it’s going to stay cold so it’s not going anywhere unless we get the drive scraped. This will be the fourth time in 30 years that we’ve had to get someone to clear the drive.
Since we aren’t willing to try to get out the drive (we have big hill in the middle of our 1000 ft. drive and if we got stuck there it would make a huge problem) and eventually we’ll have go somewhere we can’t walk, stubbornness is not an option. 🙂
Eh, kids today are so soft! 🙂 I was just telling my kid this morning how the boys in Catholic grade school would pummel us girls right in the bare legs (below our school uniform skirts) with ice balls, sometimes with rocks in the center of them when we were walking to and from school in the dead of Cleveland winters. Uphill, both ways.
OK, enough with “snow” comments. We have sweltering temps here. I slept with the back door open and no covers, and I still woke up sweaty (and remarkable unbitten).
Neither Luna nor the pups could settle because of the heat. It was a very restless night for all and probably will be tonight and tomorrow night as well. Sunday is supposed to be cooler.
In the mean time I’ll continue to work in my underwear (one of the few perks of working at home, of course if I had a real job it would probably come with air conditioning).
If you had a “real” job, you’d probably find that some other damn dogs were hogging the cool air produced by whatever system there was — and in the meantime, you’d be working in a suit.
Is it really humid too? We like working in our jammies when we can. Unfortunately, I have this silly temporary 4 year gig where I’m expected to show up at the office on a regular basis and actually DO STUFF! Imagine!
Hope the snowy pix make you feel a little cooler;-)
Actually, being trapped in the snowy woods is a pretty good way to spend a few days in January. We got plowed out yesterday afternoon. Which is good since I have to take Bebo to the vet today. She broke a toenail off and keeps bleeding from it and limping. Poor puppy.
With dogs, it’s a good idea to always have some styptic powder (I used to get this product from Pet and Vet) on hand.
If you haven’t got styptic, try some loose black tea (break open a teabag) tightly packed around the quick. It acts much slower, but has a similar coagulating effect.
I’ve seen the vet use styptic powder. Bebo needed to have the remaining nail trimned and cauterized. She’s wearing a bandage for a couple of days. I’ll check out the styptic next time I’m in a pet supply store. Thanks for the idea.
Yep, we got scraped out late yesterday afternoon. It took the guy around 45 minutes — it was hard because of the thick sleet which has pretty much frozen into a solid layer of ice.
I think I only got up five times last night to deal with fussing puppies.
After turning up her nose at most foods for the last week Luna had a kilo (2.2lbs) of raw meat last evening, and another whole kilo at one go for breakfast.
Fortunately, the bandage only has to stay until tomorrow because we have to put it in a plastic bag every time she goes out and she does not like that one little bit (though it didn’t take her too long to figure out she could still run that way).
Once, when our kids were little, we delayed in buying their winter boots and it snowed before we had anything suitable for them to wear to play outside. We did the job with bread bags and it worked surprisingly well;-)
Last night was our monthly shopping trek to Bloomington. The road was completely clear but shoppers few.
I was going over to the Monroe County Library (I go there because they have such a huge collection) today but decided to wait till next week because parking is always a pain in the butt in that area and I figure with all the snow I’d end up half way to Elletsville before I found a parking place.
We used to go there a lot too, but have drifted out of the habit and now make a lot more use of inter-library loans here.
We just returned from moving my mom to an assisted living apartment here. We’ve been waiting for one to open since May, 2007! Of course, this would be the weekend we had to get all her stuff out of storage (lots of snow shoveling to get to the garage):(
My little brother (the handsome & musically talented one) and Mrs. ID were there to help too. I’m still highly jealous of my brother’s trips to Paris and southern France!!! I think Mom loved him best too!
Well since I didn’t see the actual event that tore the nail, I can’t say for sure, though I wouldn’t rule it out. However, given the abandon with which Bebo careens through the woods, I’m guessing it was entirely self-inflicted.
Every dog I’ve ever owned had to wear one of those plastic Elizabethan collars to keep them from chewing on a bandage. And they don’t make them big enough for Pyrs, which required making extensions out of milk jugs.
Good morning ask! I love your photo over in the FFF. The facial expression is priceless. IIRC, I remember a similar expression on my brother’s face after he went through the ice one winter while we were skating;-)
We’re just hanging out. I’ve got the game on but it’s hard to get too excited about it when I don’t care about the outcome. It was a nice warm day here. I’ve finally chopped the ice off of our front walk. Woohoo! You can tell how exciting my life is.
And of course, sleeping in isn’t an option since the G-D school called here at 5 am to tell us. grr.
Well maybe not “things” — I’ll bet the boys went back to sleep.
What did you end up having — snow, sleet, freezing rain or a mix? We had 13 inches of snow, sleet, and then snow.
They slept through it. CBtE has a half-day today, followed by a 4-day weekend. THey’ll never leave…

Good thinking on the sentence. 🙂

Errata: Bebo was not exhausted; Bebo had a blast.
This will give you an idea what it was like.

OMG, dog swimming through snow.
I’m sure Bebo loved it: 2 humans at once! Walking! Snow!
We have much less than that, for sure.
It’s even deeper than it looks in the picture because Sniff is light enough that he doesn’t break through the sleet layer.
Wow! I didn’t know you could body surf in snow!
Maybe the tourist bureau should start advertising brown county as a surfer mecca. 🙂
Great picture Andi. I just love that dog.
Hi Alice!
I kinda like that dog too. 🙂
I’ve heard of sled dogs, but never a plow dog.
Good morning you two! Andi, do you still need a snowplow?
Hi ID! Are you hoping for another quiet day at the office today?
Today should be fairly quiet too. I actually got some useful stuff done in the database yesterday. My Second-in-command made it in too – from the far southern part of the county. A truly amazing woman!
We finally found someone — I hope. He said he would try to get here today. But if you’ve got another name, I’d love to have it as a back up.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that they get through. That crusty mess can be a nightmare once it’s built up to a foot (ask me how I know…)

My mom had that problem a few years back…and she was stubbornly hiking the a third of a mile in and out until spring..
Since we aren’t willing to try to get out the drive (we have big hill in the middle of our 1000 ft. drive and if we got stuck there it would make a huge problem) and eventually we’ll have go somewhere we can’t walk, stubbornness is not an option. 🙂
I’ll send you one e-mail. I’ll bet he’s a busy guy right now, tho…
Thanks — such service from my elected officials. 🙂
2 hour school delay here even though the roads are clear. What gives?
Eh, kids today are so soft! 🙂 I was just telling my kid this morning how the boys in Catholic grade school would pummel us girls right in the bare legs (below our school uniform skirts) with ice balls, sometimes with rocks in the center of them when we were walking to and from school in the dead of Cleveland winters. They just don’t make kids like they used to.
Thank God. Those boys all grew up to be tools.
Leaving work after the big snow yesterday, I thought I would stop by the library, as I often do…
Ack! Can’t get rid of the detail bar tonight for some reason.
OK, enough with “snow” comments. We have sweltering temps here. I slept with the back door open and no covers, and I still woke up sweaty (and remarkable unbitten).

Damn dogs are hogging the evaporative cooler.
If you had a “real” job, you’d probably find that some other damn dogs were hogging the cool air produced by whatever system there was — and in the meantime, you’d be working in a suit.
Heh – at least I’m not forced to wear one of those things.
I’ve always managed to get away with a nice shirt and slacks on the job. Never owned a suit, and never intend to.
Yep, there’s always some dang dawg hogging something.
Is it really humid too? We like working in our jammies when we can. Unfortunately, I have this silly temporary 4 year gig where I’m expected to show up at the office on a regular basis and actually DO STUFF! Imagine!
Hope the snowy pix make you feel a little cooler;-)
Fortunately, it’s not very humid. I loath humidity.
They make you show up AND do things – I mean one or the other, but both is unreasonable.
Ahhhh… that’s much better.
Damn you!
Out of school again on Friday. That means I only taught 13 days this month.
I’ll bet it would be way funner if you could get out of your driveway. 😉
There’s an awful lot to be said for not being able to get out of your driveway — but it depends on what and who is in your house.
Of course beer and chocolate chip cookies are essential.
Sounds like a bad combination to me.

Yes, it sounded like a vet job, but the styptic is a handy way to stop the bleeding until you get her there.
Too darn hot. Tasmania had record high temperatures today. Our inside temperature reached the mid-eighties.
I spent most of the afternoon literally icing down the dogs.
Tomorrow is supposed to see a drop in temps, but will likely be more humid.
Cutest tushie ever!
At least until you post the next puppy butt picture.
and poor you, too.
I hope it cools down very soon.
And we’ve got nothing but ice here. If only we could send some your way. Stay cool!
The theme this week is Cold: Anything that is cold, feels cold, looks cold, reminds you of cold, or even just gives you the cold shoulder.
Diary is here.
Speaking of which, have you been released from your own personal Nifelheim yet?
Yep, we got scraped out late yesterday afternoon. It took the guy around 45 minutes — it was hard because of the thick sleet which has pretty much frozen into a solid layer of ice.
I think I only got up five times last night to deal with fussing puppies.

Which is Yin, and which is Yang?
Heh, that’s what I was thinking.
You going back to work on Monday?
I hope so.
Not sure. They’re both girls.
Aw, Luna looks like she’s smiling. Is she feeling better?
She’s actually panting. But yes, she is feeling much better.
I love the look on Luna’s face — it’s happy and sort of WTF all at the same time.
🙁

Awwwwww – get well soon, Bebo!
Fortunately, the bandage only has to stay until tomorrow because we have to put it in a plastic bag every time she goes out and she does not like that one little bit (though it didn’t take her too long to figure out she could still run that way).

What is it with you and ripping off toenails? 🙂
I’ve been tainted by 8 years of Bush torture?
Actually it’s just that I seem to hang around those who don’t watch where their feet are going. ;P

Ugh, I’ll bet that was a lot of work. But at least it warmed up some and the sun was out.
My little brother (the handsome & musically talented one) and Mrs. ID were there to help too. I’m still highly jealous of my brother’s trips to Paris and southern France!!! I think Mom loved him best too!
::sniff::
I mean – did Sniff trip Bebo?
Well since I didn’t see the actual event that tore the nail, I can’t say for sure, though I wouldn’t rule it out. However, given the abandon with which Bebo careens through the woods, I’m guessing it was entirely self-inflicted.
Aww, poor Bebo. Although I’m guessing it won’t slow her down much or for long. 🙂
Nope. I even took her for a walk today (because she wouldn’t leave me alone otherwise) — we wrapped it up in plastic bags and then an ace bandage.
At least she doesn’t chew off the bandage.
Every dog I’ve ever owned had to wear one of those plastic Elizabethan collars to keep them from chewing on a bandage. And they don’t make them big enough for Pyrs, which required making extensions out of milk jugs.
You will be assimilated.
Get on board.
Imogen says that Gargantua (in the middle) is so wide and soft that she’s like the people on their floating sleds in Wall-E.
Mary is right, don’t let Gargantua hear her name or she’ll forever be trying to fit into a size two.
That’s 14 in dog sizes.
I only ever call her “Gar”, so I think we are safe from any future anorexia. Plus, you know, dog.
The other two are currently called “Super Squeek” (girl) and “The Dude” (boy).
Love that line!
We will be assimilated and it will not occur to us for a nanosecond to resist.
This morning is much lovelier than yesterday, with temp in the high 30s instead of below zero and the sun is shining!
Good morning!
Here as well. It’s 31 now, but they promise mid-40s.
Good morning ask! I love your photo over in the FFF. The facial expression is priceless. IIRC, I remember a similar expression on my brother’s face after he went through the ice one winter while we were skating;-)
< crickets > Hello!!! < echo >
Who’s there?
Hey boran….sup?
Hey! I think we need a new cafe…and I have all my fun Superbowl food recipe links to share…
I’ll be back in a minute (and on my real username…)
Look forward to the recipes.
We’re just hanging out. I’ve got the game on but it’s hard to get too excited about it when I don’t care about the outcome. It was a nice warm day here. I’ve finally chopped the ice off of our front walk. Woohoo! You can tell how exciting my life is.
