Who’s everyone rooting for?  Or not?

      Pittsburgh, my regular season nemesis.

I wish to hell the Super Bowl would be played in one of the teams home stadium.  This would be a much better game in Pittsburgh.  Actually, I couldn’t care less about the game, I just like the wings.

CabinGirl on February 1, 2009 at 6:02 pm

I would really love to see a Superbowl played under real February conditions, instead of this fair-weather or indoor sissy stuff.

Someday, when I’m the head of the NFL…

At least my stomach bug has gone away in time for the game.

What have you been up to this weekend?

BooMan on February 1, 2009 at 6:06 pm

that’s why my favorite week of football is the week of the AFC and NFC Championship game.  I love watching them play in the Meadowlands or in Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Chicago or Green Bay or Foxboro.

The Super Bowl is a let down by comparison.

However, I think there is something to be said for letting the championship be played in optimal conditions.

No, I think it should be like the World Series and damn the weather conditions.  My favorite memories are watching the Indians play in late October in snow flurries….admittedly not very often 🙁

            maryb2004 on February 1, 2009 at 6:25 pm

I think it should always be played in Green Bay.  But then I don’t really like football 🙂

I’m really only interested in Bruce at halftime.  When should that be?  About 8?

      • BooMan
BooMan on February 1, 2009 at 6:13 pm

kickoff is at 6:28 (5:28 your time).  A half of football usually takes about 1:15 minutes, with the first half going quicker than the second.  But the Super Bowl has more commercials.  Sometime around 8pm (7pm for you) should be about right.

        • maryb2004
          maryb2004 on February 1, 2009 at 6:20 pm

I can never tell with the Superbowl – it just always seems to drag on …. But I’ll wake myself up for Bruce 🙂

I want to see that, and the 3D commercial (we even have our 3D glasses here to watch with!).

oh yum, that sounds fantastic.  Are you having people over for the game?

      The salad looks good too.

When I was at the American Indian museum we had a soup that I want to find the recipe for:  Roasted crabapple, pumpkin and chestnut soup.  It was yummy.

Just a bit of glorious on and off drizzle.

Everyone is enjoying the end of the stinking hot.  Although the damp puts a bit of a kink in my twice-a-day puppy towel laundering schedule (since we line dry).

Last night I actually slept in my own bed, and I only had to get up four times to deal with the puppies.

    • keres
keres on February 1, 2009 at 6:38 pm

Luna’s got her appetite back – to the tune of at least four-and-a-half pounds of raw meat every day, plus some kibble, a few slices of bread, etc.  From the exponential growth of the pups, it’s clearly passing straight through her and onto them.

      • maryb2004

We liked that one too.  I have been trying to explain football, the down system specifically, to my daughter in law, and it brought back memories of my dad explaining it to me during Monday night football with Howard Cosell and Dandy Don Meredith.  She’s just frustrated now.  It might be the winter lager.

      • AndiF
AndiF on February 1, 2009 at 7:20 pm

      • maryb2004
        maryb2004 on February 1, 2009 at 7:27 pm

Did you bother explaining that the yellow line doesn’t really exist?  Or just figure that she’ll never go to a real game?

Here’s how I like to explain football.  A bunch of guys divide up into two teams.  They don’t have to be the really great looking in shape athletes – fat guys can play football too.  They line up.  They run into each other.  Then they all stand around and talk for a while. Then they line up and run into each other again.  This goes on for hours.  If you are lucky it is a passing game and you can actually see the football. If you’re really lucky it is a GOOD passing game and every time they line up they’ve moved down the field a LOT. If you are unlucky – it’s a running game, you can never see the football and they move incrementally down the field.

If you are really unlucky you are watching a running game live, in an outdoor stadium in subzero temperatures.  You have to REALLY like your date to do that.

        • Second Nature
Second Nature on February 1, 2009 at 7:30 pm

And after you watch it live, you amble out of the stadium in subfreezing temperatures with thousands of drunk fans and you sidestep all of the puddles of vomit and urine except that last one, which you slip in and fall on your ass.

Van Zandt is married to actress Maureen Van Zandt (formerly Maureen Santora) who portrays his wife Gabriella Dante in the TV series The Sopranos. They married in New York City on December 31, 1982.[7] Bruce Springsteen was the best man at the ceremony, which was presided over by Reverend Richard Penniman (Little Richard). Singer Percy Sledge sang his classic “When a Man Loves a Woman” at the reception.[8]
