“Watching President Obama apologize last week for America’s arrogance – before a French audience that owes its freedom to the sacrifices of Americans – helped convince me that he has a deep-seated antipathy toward American values and traditions.” – Rick Santorum
America’s role in liberating Europe from Nazi domination should never be discounted but I wonder if most surviving veterans of that war think their sacrifices license dickheads like Rick Santorum to insult French people for all eternity.
Want it even more complicated?

Ooo, la la!
And, of course, Bedell Smith was Director of Central Intelligence between 1950-1953.
But, hey, we knew this country has officially racist in 1944 and for two decades afterwards.
thanks, exactly what I was going to say. Wingnuts often claim to know history, but they’re usually lying.
I would tell little ricky to take a journey to Yorktown battle field and gander a LONG look at the plaque there,
Which says;
Ce monument est dédié aux soldats et marins du corps expéditionnaire français morts pour l’independance des Etats-Unis pendant la campagne de Yorktown.
1781
This monument is dedicated to the soldiers and sailors of the French expeditionary corps who died for the independance of the United States during the Yorktown campaign.
The memorial includes the names of the some 600 Frenchmen who lost their lives in this campaign, including the Yorktown siege and the naval battle known as the Second Battle of the Virginia Capes.
The location of the principal French Memorial at Yorktown is at the position known as ‘The French Trench’, which was the extreme left flank of the French army during the 1781 siege. It is where the French Regiment Touraine had constructed a field fortification opposite the British Royal Welsh Fusiliers Redoubt. Both positions are indicated on most maps of the battlefield. These positions are along the edge of the York River and just north of, and across highway 238 from, the present-day Virginia State ‘Yorktown Victory Center’.
BTW if the French navy hadn’t defeated the British navy at the Battle of the Chesapeake
Washington might not have been able to force the British to surrender.
We owe the French for our very independence and wingnuts like little ricky seems to have forgotten that.
Somebody should tell that wanker if lots of French citizens hadn’t volunteered to help a fledging army here we might just still be a British Colony, so our aiding France in WW1 and WW2 was just returning the favor.
I’m just going to consider the source here. Santorum is easily one of the most ignorant people imagineable. What a jerk.
One reason why Santorum doesn’t seem able to keep his ignorance to himself: it provides tasty nourishment to the ignorance of others.
This comment left on site in response:
Doesn’t matter. Haven’t you heard that FDR caused the Great Depression? History is a dead art.
Woodrow Wilson was a fascist, FDR was a socialist, Kennedy and Johnson lost Vietnam, Carter almost lost the Middle East, Clinton caused 9/11 and Obama is worse than all of them put together after just 80 days.
Praise the Almighty. If it wasn’t for Saint Ronnie & The Second Coming we’d really be in deep shit.
My mistake, this should be the Quote of the Day:
That’s what Stephen Colbert called him.
Of course there’s reason to say it, Bill. It’s funny.
someone shoudl let rick santorum know that if the french are expected to be eternally grateful for our help in WW2, expressed by never criticizing the USA, that the opposite is also true: we should never criticize the french because they saved OUR bacon in the revolution.
fuck that dog-fucking, school-district robbing, not-even-living-in-his-district, losing to bob “as much charisma as tapioca pudding” casey, dead-baby fondling asshole pile of shit.
that’s unfair to tapioca pudding.
The proper comparison is to a warm ziploc bag of vasoline.
i just got off the phone with old vaseline’s staff. i got an email from senator ziploc asking for my thoughts, so i called up and provided them.
Thank you. And Obama also mentioned this in that same speech – that France was our FIRST ally ever. The french people really struggled and sacrificed for US when they gave us aid in the revolutionary war. They really couldn’t afford to give as much as they did, but they gave it anyway.
Somehow these patriots who use the genius meme: “France owes its freedoms to the sacrifices of Americans” tend to forget the small bit about the American Revolution.
Maybe the U!!!S!!!A!!! can take back Eisenhower & Normandy, France can take back Lafayette & Yorktown, and we can call it even.
