Obama is going a long way to praise the CIA in his introduction.
Good thing I’m heading out – that might make me throw up.
What else could he do? Slam the entire agency, even though most are probably career people who have done nothing wrong?
Part of Obama’s job, I think, is rebuilding morale at the CIA, not to mention the rest of the federal government. He should be able to praise them and thank them for their service without abandoning any principles.
Obama is remarkably emotional.
Amazingly, he got a tremendous reception from the CIA. I suppose they are happy that their colleagues won’t be prosecuted, but they also wanted those memos to remain classified.
I haven’t been watching. But this reminds me of the warm reception Obama has apparently been getting from the military, in various speeches.
The audiences are probably so different that any comparison is inapt. Still, part of me wonders whether the audience(s) simply looks forward to the possibility that competency could be re-emphasized without intelligence being politicized.
If I were a CIA analyst, I’m sure I would welcome the prospect of my work being taken more seriously.
After 8 years of being battered and abused by the Cheney Administration, I am sure they’re just as excited as the State Department was to see the new president.
probably wasn’t considered newsworthy heretofore, especially considering the Bush Admin’s reluctance to engage the Press, and the Press’s relationship to the Clintons’ admin…
Still, this sorta thing’s not for everybody (yawn)…
