Yuck. We had a nice sunny and warm afternoon yesterday, completely unexpected. It’s back to gray and damp here today, though, after a thunderstorm last night.
can someone correct me if I am wrong? I assume, but do not know for certain, that an Arabic-speaking Christian or Jew would use the word ‘Allah’ for God. Is this the case?
That explains it. Rural dial-up computer doesn’t do youtubes.
Someday soon maybe our valley (100 miles from NYC) will meet the 21st Century like it’s supposed to.
We’re into apple harvest here. I’m working my way through a bag of cox’s orange pippins at the moment. Since Tasmania is one of the coolest places in Australia, historically it was the best place to grow cold weather fruit trees – which is how we got the nickname “The Apple Isle”. It also means we still have lots of heritage varieties to chose from. One of my favoites is “Lady in the Snow” which has crisp pristine white flesh.
Sounds wonderful, keres. The actual varieties of apples that are still grown can be a mind-blower — especially for those of us who generally come into contact with only three or four, with little taste, thanks to the miracle of Big Agriculture.
For some reason I knew you were going to mention pond pictures. I actually pulled my camera out the other day, so I’m one step closer to pictures. 🙂
Went to the dentist yesterday and had Nitrous for the second time. I have to admit I’m not that impressed with the stuff. Didn’t make me feel relaxed or anything. So out of that whole thing, all I got was a chance to hyperventilate while they did some pretty intense dental work. Think I’ll bypass that stuff next time.
Who knows, the inspiration might hit today, and I’ll check to see if it has batteries in it. 🙂
Unfortunately no. I’ve got a ways to go before they’re finished. I’m thinking with my luck, a week after I go through all this stuff, they’ll come out with a new medicine that grows teeth, fills cavities and whitens to which ever shade you prefer without hassle or pain. You watch, I bet that’s going to happen. :O)
I never had nitrous, and I know that it would just make me nauseous. I’m a pretty brave person about pain, but I hate like hell going to the dentist. Hope they are quick and efficient and you come out looking like a million bucks…
Thank goodness nausea wasn’t included with yesterday’s hyperventilating. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m a total wuss when it comes to pain. So far they’ve been quick and efficient, but no matter what they do, I’ll still look like some dude from Deliverance. 🙂
We’re hanging in there…I had some good news last week, but I’m still waiting for the official paperwork to be in place…and trying to remember to enjoy my free time while I’m waiting.
And of course, we’re starting to look forward to the end of the school year. CBtE only has 5 weeks left after this week. CBtY has more like 9.
Well I hope your official paperwork is in place right away then. Yeah you better enjoy that free time, because once you’re up and running, you’ll look back and give a big sigh. 🙂
5 and 9 weeks of school at their age probably seems like an eternity. But if I remember right, summer always seemed like it was gone before it started.
I’m trying to tell myself not to expect the actual move to happen until mid-June, so I won’t be disappointed or horror-stricken when that happens, and I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it happens sooner.
I still have to figure out what the boys are going to do all summer. I think it may be time for CBtE to learn to drive, since he’ll be 17 in August. Then again, it’s one more thing for me to worry about. 🙂
I always thought summer was over too soon too, but I hated school.
Well if you want, I’ll talk to them in my “FM” capacity and tell em to get the ball rolling. 😉
I’d forgotten CBtE was getting up around that age. Of course it’s time for him to learn to drive, and for you to join the ranks of worried parents. This is one of those rites of passage for him as well as you. :O)
I set the expectations for what he needed to do to show he was ready for the responsibility of driving a car long before the magic birthday rolled around. 🙂
So this year, we’ve seen a big improvement in grades, homework, and school behavior…once I can afford the jump in car insurance, we’ll be set.
We have a forecast for 72 tomorrow, 85 on Saturday, 90s Sunday and Monday. Today looks pretty nice too, although not as warm.
Even better, I sent so much stuff off to my client this week that the ball is now in their court, and all I have to do is write a little biography of someone and arrange a 15-minute teleconference, so I’ll finally get to take my bike out for a nice spin. Maybe play some tennis too.
Good morning all (at least it’s morning where we are). We’ve got a weather front on the horizon, with rain predicted for most of next week. So, today will be spent doing laundry (we only have a line drier).
You must be happy about the rain — at least I hope it’s enough to make you happy that the pond is filling up. And I’ll be happy because there will be more wet puppy pictures. 🙂
We should really should go more often as not very far away, but this year we may have left it until too late. Tomorrow’s rain falling here means snow falling there.
it was great. I had an excellent time. I met Nate Silver and James Wolcott and Baratunde Thurston and Abbie Hoffman’s ex-wife and a bunch of cool people that aren’t famous.
Oh, and there weren’t too many Latinos there but I did talk to a nice couple from Ecuador. It was probably more of a Jewish crowd than anything else. A lot of activists involved in a wide range of stuff…co-op child care, campaign organization, drug war stuff, a bunch of artists. A good crowd.
How did I manage to miss everyone last night?
At the time I was just hoping the wet came from the water bucket and not the septic overflow . . . .
It didn’t seem like a good idea to explore that line of inquiry too closely, so I beat a hasty retreat.
Good morning all, and good night.
mmm, sewage…big fun for dogs. 😉
Good morning all. Thunder and lightning last night, and it looks like a third day of rain today. Ugh.
Yuck. We had a nice sunny and warm afternoon yesterday, completely unexpected. It’s back to gray and damp here today, though, after a thunderstorm last night.
Hopefully, April showers will bring lots of May flowers our way.
We’re in for brilliant weather by this weekend, though. Anticipation is delicious.
can someone correct me if I am wrong? I assume, but do not know for certain, that an Arabic-speaking Christian or Jew would use the word ‘Allah’ for God. Is this the case?
Oh that picture made me laugh. 🙂
And so did this “child proof drawer”
Could be me, maryb, but I can’t see your image.
dunno what’s wrong. It’s there for me. It’s a youtube.
Worked for me too. And it sure did work for me too. 😀
I was waiting for the dog to get fed up with the kid and slam the drawer on his/her fingers. 🙂
Me too.
That explains it. Rural dial-up computer doesn’t do youtubes.
Someday soon maybe our valley (100 miles from NYC) will meet the 21st Century like it’s supposed to.
I could watch laughing babies all day. Back when I was really depressed I’d make my kids laugh just to cheer myself up… :0)
Wishing everyone here a good Earth Day!
Spend a little time with nature’s gifts, if you can.
Ah such pretty flowers and looks like the didn’t mind the snow all that much.
There’s a bit more on top of them today.
What flowers fall over are cut for vases. Most are still standing valiantly.
Its apple blossom time here!
For all of you located more easterly than us midwesterners, much nicer weather is headed in your direction.
Lucky you.

Beautiful. Nothing like that going on in the woods but things are beginning to leaf out. Yay for green!
So pretty. You’re fortunate! Thanks for the image, ID.
Yep, we’re expected to see the 80s this weekend. Catskills seasons grow ever more bizarre.
Totally gorgeous…and such a contrast with wilderness wench’s pictures of the snow!
the cat still loves me:
Are you sure? Looks more like she thinks she sent for the catnip and you forgot … again.
that’s her “why the hell did you leave me here with that nasty white cat?” look
It’s a beautiful picture, anyway. She’s obviously not that upset.
Via the weather channel, we’re supposed to be clear and 88F/31C today. It’s starting to get to hot to early. Where did my winter go?
Hope everyone has been doing good.
I’d be jealous but we’re going to be in the upper 70s, low 80s by tomorrow.
But with that hot weather, you’ll be needing to go take the pond pictures early in the morning before the heat of the day does you in. 😉
Hiya Andi,
For some reason I knew you were going to mention pond pictures.
Ah hah! Now all I have to do is get you out the door with it.
Did this finish off you’re dental work? I hope so.
Well if that happens, just think of the contribution you’ll have made to well-being of millions of other people. 🙂
Yeah that’s me. Always sacrificing for others. Hah! 😉
Exactly … well once I actually see my pond pictures. ;P
Well I’ve got to take George out. Ya know, I just might take my camera and…… Nah, has to be the perfect moment. ;P to you too. 🙂
I never had nitrous, and I know that it would just make me nauseous. I’m a pretty brave person about pain, but I hate like hell going to the dentist. Hope they are quick and efficient and you come out looking like a million bucks…
I think dentists always seem worse because it’s so damn hard to tell them the eff off with their fists in your mouth.
Hi SN,
Thank goodness nausea wasn’t included with yesterday’s hyperventilating. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m a total wuss when it comes to pain. So far they’ve been quick and efficient, but no matter what they do, I’ll still look like some dude from Deliverance. 🙂
Hi Family Man!
Hi CG,
How have you and the family been doing?
We’re hanging in there…I had some good news last week, but I’m still waiting for the official paperwork to be in place…and trying to remember to enjoy my free time while I’m waiting.
And of course, we’re starting to look forward to the end of the school year. CBtE only has 5 weeks left after this week. CBtY has more like 9.

uh oh, stay off the roads in Eastern PA. 🙂
I’m surprised he hasn’t demanded to learn earlier. Everyone here gets their learners permit at 16.
I set the expectations for what he needed to do to show he was ready for the responsibility of driving a car long before the magic birthday rolled around. 🙂
So this year, we’ve seen a big improvement in grades, homework, and school behavior…once I can afford the jump in car insurance, we’ll be set.
Are we being a weather forecast for you? It’s absolutely gorgeous here and a high of 80 is forecast for tomorrow.
We have a forecast for 72 tomorrow, 85 on Saturday, 90s Sunday and Monday. Today looks pretty nice too, although not as warm.

90s!!!! Ugh, I hate hot weather and am completely worshipful of the weather gods that we aren’t getting anywhere close to those temps.
I’m actually looking forward to the higher temps. I won’t want them anymore after next week, but it will be a welcome change from cold and wet.
Did you already go for your walk this morning? I need to head out for mine in a bit.
I’m headed out myself. Well actually I’m headed toward a nap.
See ya’ll.
Happy napping, FM.
Getting ready to go now.
See ya later.
Hi FM! Now that the weather is nice it’s time for you to post some pictures of the pond. 🙂
Good to see you, FM. Glad you’ve survived another procedure intact.
I badly need my teeth fixed also (hell, I probably need my entire jaw replaced), but after reading your posts, having no insurance actually seems OK.
;-B
Another April morning up at Moon Hill.
Bonus chuckle, via NOAA:
What next? A hookah-smoking caterpillar?
Ah the vagaries of spring. But I’m guessing you’ll happily take the switch from snow to those 70s.

Yes, we’re always happy for the rain, even when it means we can’t visit Mt. Field (as we had hoped to this weekend), and dealing with mucky wet dogs.
That is too bad about Mt. Field — it looks like a great hike. I hope you can get there soon.
We should really should go more often as not very far away, but this year we may have left it until too late. Tomorrow’s rain falling here means snow falling there.
ps dogblog is up.
Okay you go to Mt. Field and I will will hie myself over to the Dog Blogging.
Actually, I don’t mind the snow at all right now. It’s fleeting — no shoveling in sub-zero winds. It just vanishes gently, leaving vibrant green.
BoooooooMan: how was the party last night? 🙂
it was great. I had an excellent time. I met Nate Silver and James Wolcott and Baratunde Thurston and Abbie Hoffman’s ex-wife and a bunch of cool people that aren’t famous.
Saw some old friends, too.
cool. Baratunde is hilarious, got to hang out with him at that NOI Blogger Summit last year and chat briefly in Austin.
He’s the man. I love that dude. He’s still smarting from having his laptop stolen at his last comedy gig.
yeah. he lost everything – laptop, wallet, keys. horrible deal for someone who is always on the go
Oh, and there weren’t too many Latinos there but I did talk to a nice couple from Ecuador. It was probably more of a Jewish crowd than anything else. A lot of activists involved in a wide range of stuff…co-op child care, campaign organization, drug war stuff, a bunch of artists. A good crowd.
The theme is Random so you’ve got no excuses for not coming on over here and posting.
Or I guess if you’re a better excuse maker than I imagined, you can just look.
