I think the Democratic Socialists of America should sue the Republican National Committee for defamation of character.
Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives.
That doesn’t sound like the agenda of the Democratic party or the current Democratic administration, to me.
Here’s a vote on a socialist’s amendment to the credit card bill.
An excellent vote for identifying incorrigible corporate Dems.
But they didn’t say Democratic Socialists. They said Democrat Socialists. What are you, some kind of grownup or something?
Oh well. Back to the rebranding drawing board.
So who are these guys? I wonder how many socialist parties are in the U.S.?
Don’t be silly. The election’s over. It’s time to get back to business as usual. Oh sure, it’s easy for you to sit in front of your keyboard and quibble, but it’s hard work to shovel trillions of dollars of the middle class’ money to the rich, find a way to subsidize health insurance companies while calling it health reform, escalate the war in Afghanistan, cover up the war crimes of the previous administration, and still find time to feign concern about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Let’s cut Obama some slack. He’s so much more personable and charismatic when he betrays the voters than Hillary Clinton would have been.
Try to be more facile. Please.
Somehow, I feel things are just not going right in this republic of ours. And, facile pen or not, Corvus, you seem to have identified several critical issues. Always, it seems to come down to money even in the cases of Afghanistan and Israel. Will the leading capitalist nation of the world crumble from its own monetary problems? Sure hope my nagging doubts are wrong.
It seems pretty clear to me that we’re exactly where the Soviet Union was 30 years ago — imploding from our own internal contradictions. I still think Obama was our best hope for escaping fate, but it increasingly looks like nobody can make that happen.
