“Enhanced Interrogation Techniques” was originally a term coined by the (wait for it) Gestapo. Something to consider when you hear someone (typically a Republican politician) using that term as a substitute for torture.

Sounds about right to me. If the world were a play, the critics would note that the GOP character rings true.
turn on CSPAN3 for Conyers grilling Holder.
asking for a special counsel.
Not just the party of “no” but the party with the Nazi obsession. Strange as no one in the GOP has ever demonstrated a working knowledge of history, oh wait, as long as you can remember the labels who needs the history.
So who’s the bet as to the Nazi linguistic scholar? Karl Rove? Frank Luntz?
Didn’t we all feel a little creeped out when they came up with the name “Homeland Security?”
IIRC the “definitions” of torture in the memos were copped bindly from various sources.
Maybe somebody thought they were just being clever.
Count me in, creeped out by “Homeland” refernce. And this morning the AR GOP candidate who called Schumer “that Jew” – mindless.
Count me in for being “creeped out” too. I was wondering if i was the only one that thought that it sounded Orwellian.
I have a question for all those who may be in “the know.” My father is dead convinced that if this torture thing blows up furiously that we’ll never get healthcare reform passed because this issue will swamp everything else on the agenda and in the press. According to him that’s why Obama is trying to block the torture investigation.
I admit that i’m probably slow here.. but the way I sew it is that this is a golden opportunity to change the way things are done in Washington, since the rotten power elites blocking health care reform are the ones dead in the middle of the torture scandal.
So, is my father right? What am I missing here?

Thanks, Anne. I’ve browsed your link and it jives with what i instinctively feel.
it’s an interesting piece that I agree with in many parts. However, I don’t agree with all of it.
Interesting read. I’m not inclined to agree that a dose of sunshine applied to the torture story will have the impact we want on any future president using torture again.
I’m more interested in the methods Cheney used to stonewall inquiries, hide paperwork & hide behind underlings because it’s the getting there that I think is equal if not more dangerous than the use of torture by itself. Cheney managed to open doors where no doors into gray areas of our laws had ever even been contemplated before.
Cheney’s map through our legal system is what needs to come to light and then true north re-established.
