I cannot support the appointment of Stanley McChrystal to be commander of our forces in Afghanistan and this is why.
I don’t doubt that McChrystal is well-suited to oversee the change in strategy that Obama wants, placing more emphasis on counterinsurgency and infrastructure. But I don’t care because there has to be some general in the Special Forces command who is not tainted by gross violations of the Geneva Conventions.
I’d have to agree-and I’ll go farther. McChrystal is a full-blown disgrace to God and country. There are people who should never wear the uniform. McChrystal is one of them.
Just sickening. My blood boils when I read and hear what these people have done to our country. I am very disappointed by the President’s decision to put McChrystal in charge of Afghanistan. You can’t say that you put a stop to torture and then reward the people who knew about it, oversaw it, and covered it up. It’s simply corrupt.
Weirdly I am more ambivalent about this.
What if there WAS no one else? No one who knew how to do the job, and the respect/connections to make his plans work? BooMan obviously thinks there are others, there might be though we don’t know that.
But again, what’s the choice here? Is it elevating a torturer or handing nukes to the Taliban?
It’s not a choice I would like to make, which I think makes it more important to release the photos. An action condoning torture, an action deploring it. Try to keep a balance until we can imprison the lot of them.
Here’s the link for an excellent article about McChrystal-
