I got turkey burgers going on. What do you got?

corned beef briscuit, roasted potatoes and carrots, fresh, steamed brussel spouts.
for some reason, we called brussels sprouts “spragglenuggies” when we were little. I think it was easier to say? That seems implausible, but the name stuck and now my kids call them that too.
Anyway, since I tried tossing them with olive oil and sea salt, and roasting them in a hot oven I can’t have them any other way. They’re amaaaaazing…
love the name. i don’t care for the frozen ones, they gotta be fresh. i steamed them and then tossed with some butter and lemon pepper. just pulled the briscuit out, gonna feast now. hope you’re having a great weekend, SN!
We made your salsa today, too…and its almost all gone already!
yum. i made a fresh batch on Friday, too. Couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it until I realized I had forgotten the green chilis. blasphemy!
What salsa?
this one

A surprise visit by Mr & Mrs AP to The Hague. Enjoyed a fine Cantonese Szechuan meal before they left for the Jazz Festival. I had to convey greetings to all, especially Manny, Martin and CG.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
excellent Oui! so we’re now 1-degree away from meeting. Will definitely let you know when I’m in the area 😉 Send my regards to Mr & Mrs. AP
Great. Never met a fresh salsa I didn’t love.
And I planted 7 tomato plants….
Thanks
no problema. you can’t beat freshly grown tomatoes.
i miss having a garden. apartment living sucks
Then you need to check out The Great Salsa Book, if you haven’t already.
It’s by the proprietor of Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe and its various affiliates. He trained with Alice Waters, so there’s a heavy emphasis on fresh ingredients. Lots of interesting, creative, tasty salsas, generally easy to make. He got me thinking of salsa as a festive meal, or at least a substantial side dish, rather than a dip or condiment.
chicken in Thai marinade (chicken legs $0.99 / lb at the market yesterday!), potato salad. Homebrew.
Pasta primavera with broccoli, sliced carrots, sweet peas, spinach, whole wheat rotini pasta, olive oil, parsley, basil and grated parmesan and a glass of K-J chardonnay.
pizza night…mushrooms, black olives, diced red and green bell peppers, red onion, marinated artichoke hearts, roma tomatoes…basically cleaned out the crisper in the fridge…with mozzarella and grated provolone, on an olive oil glaze.
is very good.
That pizza sounds delicious. My favorite veggie pizza is broccoli florets and spinach on top of a garlic pesto white sauce. When I reduce to a healthier weight someday I’ll have it again.
well, the pasta primavera doesn’t sound too bad. if l’d have had any broccoli, it would’ve gone on as well.
l get the dough for the crust from a little local pizzeria about a mile from here. they make if fresh daily, and they’ve got some kind of secret ingredient that really makes it good.
bon appétit
Pizza. Plain, wonderful pizza.
Leftovers.
Momma in Rome doing book research in dusty church/state archives. Me? Staying home caring for the ani-mules and working.
So I cooked yesterday and today it’s leftovers. 1 cheap chunk o beef – sometimes called a steak, although this one is not very tasty and is chewy. Spinach with balsamic vinegar – LOVE that taste (childhood memory). Sautéed some onions and zucchini. And a Pyramid Hefinweizen. Good stuff.
Corn flakes (of the bulk-purchase at the food co-op variety, topped with organic milk from local Jersey cows), but then it’s Monday morning here.
chicken burittos – roasted chicken from Kroger (Manager’s Special) diced, refried beans, Spanish rice, whole wheat tortillas, sharp cheddar, sour cream, lettuce & El Yuctano hot sauce.. Mmmmmmm..
Yesterday we had our version with avocado, cilantro, canned refried beans, Safeway chicken, salsa and cheddar cheese. No sour cream. Delicious.
just got back from going out for sushi. No grill work for this Dad.
We defrosted marinated pork tenderloin (broth, soy, honey, ginger and cinnamon) and roasted it. Served it with fresh asparagus and gnocchi with butter.
We aren’t big on celebrating holidays.

Life’s a bitch…and so is Dick Cheney
http://margaretandhelen.wordpress.com/2009/05/23/lifes-a-bitch-and-so-is-dick-cheney/
Margaret, I am here to tell you that Dick Cheney is a bitch – a big one too. I mean I thought that Sarah Palin was a bitch, but even she can’t hold a candle to this guy. Have you been listening to him recently?
I would say that it takes some pretty big balls to go on national television again and again to justify torture, but Dick was too much of a wimp to serve his country in the military so I’m pretty sure there ain’t much hanging between his legs. But being a bitch myself, I can assure you that you don’t need balls to be a bitch. You just need to not give a damn what other people think of you… and Dick doesn’t even care what his family and friends think about him much less the rest of us.
I have to admit that I am more than a little perplexed by Dick’s rise to power. He flunked out of Yale – something even George W. Bush didn’t do – and has at least two DWI’s on his record – one more than Georgie Boy. So basically from 2001 to 2009 we had two dry-drunk idiots running the country. But only one of them has had the good sense to shut the hell up since leaving office.
rest of it at the link above. the entire thing is hilarious.
Homemade minnestrone soup. Mmmmm. Great for a cold, foggy night along the California Coast. And some Jameson’s as I watch the embers in the fireplace. Mmmm.
Green beans, couscous with roasted pine nuts, mashed potatoes with garlic, and pork chops with my secret marinade recipe.
Big pitch-in cookout at the local firehouse this afternoon for our Assistant Fire Chief who is turning the dreaded six-0 soon. We’re taking barbecued baked beans, an old McCall’s Cookbook recipe from the sixty’s.
I just got back from Fanime 2009, an anime convention I go to every year with KamaKid. We had a fabulous time, but the food was definitely the highlight. I stopped at a local diner and had a bowl of chile with onions and cheddar cheese. Was warming and delicious.
hi K! that does sound good. glad to hear that you and the KamaKid were able to get out and do something fun. hope life is treating you well
