Hi all
I shall try and be as succinct as possible.
I got this idea tonight when Keres and I were looking through the latest fotoflogging diary together.
You know, I don’t know if you noticed, but we have a mighty fine and diverse group of talented photographers on this blog, and fairly uniquely, people also write really good pithy, positive critique of each other’s pictures.
So here’s the funding idea:
(Disclaimer: I only know how to do the first half of this idea)
What if someone from here made an online store where you could build your own calendar from all (or a selection of to start) the photos that have been submitted to the fotofloggings?
Or, someone could make it into a powerpoint presentation to run as a screensaver.
You could let people build their own calendar and then send it to them as a calendar file for printing, or digital use – I dunno, say $10? Or if we wanted to get sophisticated we could hookup with one of those on demand suppliers and send a person a hardcopy calendar – like Apple does.
For the screensaver, download and own for $5 or $10, and get a 20% discount on any future calendar purchase.
Final Comment
I think I have good business ideas, but I’ve never really put one out there like this, so be gentle if you have experience or know-how that informs you this idea is crap! ๐ฎ
cheers.
PPS – eat your heart out AndiF, I am the QUEEN of run-on sentences

Our d-i-l does something like this every Christmas, customized for each branch of the family. They’re really nice keepsakes, with pix of the grandkids and us. I’ll have to ask where she goes to put them together.
Heh – I can see it now – Booman Tribune does the “Full Monte”.
but you never know what people will buy ๐
thanks Indianadem.
Keres was just saying that if we set up a FLickr account or something similar for Booman, people could upload photos to it and then have it linked to a printing store or somethin’.
I have no idea how to do this. But if someone figured it out I’d certainly buy calendars. The photography that shows up at this site is fabulous.
Although if Manny gets on the wrong side of me I might send him a “best of the spider pictures” calendar.
I kid. Really. I kid. ๐
How about The Many Shoes of Mary calendar?
Please tell me we don’t have an Imelda/Condi wannabe among us;-)
I think it’s a great idea, and one that I had proposed several times in the past. I think it’s perhaps the best way to fund raise in a blog. Something to think about: is this a seasonal thing, end of year, do people buy calendars in the middle of the year?
If it is seasonal the plans should be begun post haste for end of year sales. Or, produce a 12 mo. calendar that begins with month you buy.
Great for holiday gifts.
There could be a vote off for the pics.
not trying to steal your thunder ๐
Oh, not at all, no stealing of thunder here, gosh no, I mentioned it in comments several times, don’t think booman even saw it. Just thought it was a good idea for making money with all the great pics on this site. One calendar isn’t enough really, lol.
I liked your idea, I think it was of being able to select your own pics.
I think it’s a great idea. I’m a calendar nut. I use my calendar’s as mini diaries(to lazy to keep a journal) and have calendars going back almost 20 years. Each year I pick a theme for my new calendar-have Joe Montana calendar/Black History/Dolphin calendars-Women’s History calendar, movie trivia, Native American and so on. I’d be absolutely thrilled to have a calendar with photos of all of the massively talented people here.
and yeah, I’d see it as an annual fundraiser to start off, just to keep the work down for whoever does it.
The screen saver idea could happen twice yearly maybe.
I just think particularly in an economic downturn time, it would be nice to see if we could give Booman another source of income other than ads & direct donations.
Also you never know, if it really took off photographers could get some nice profile from it etc.
Both Jim and I will be glad to contribute.
This sounds like a good idea to me.
Imogen wanted me to say that she’s away (in Canberra) until the end of the week. Which is why you won’t get any replies from her until then.
