“I have to say I am surprised by the controversy surrounding my statement because I think it was a pretty straight forward commentary that you probably don’t need to handcuff a guy, a middle-aged man who uses a cane, who’s in his own home,” Obama said. […]
“I think that I have extraordinary respect for the difficulties of the job that police officers do,” the president told Moran. “And my suspicion is that words were exchanged between the police officer and Mr. Gates and that everybody should have just settled down and cooler heads should have prevailed. That’s my suspicion.”
The president said he understands the sergeant who arrested Gates is an “outstanding police officer.” But he added that with all that’s going on in the country with health care and the economy and the wars abroad, “it doesn’t make sense to arrest a guy in his own home if he’s not causing a serious disturbance.”
interesting.
i think the quote of the day is
It’s the quote of the day because it spells the end of health care reform. the next five weeks will be nothing but industry attack ads and their media enablers.
i think it’s done.
“If we go home for recess without passing this bill, we will give special interests and their lobbyists five weeks to dump millions of dollars into ad campaigns that spread misinformation and fear and confusion.
We will give them 5 weeks to do everything they can to kill the best chance we have had in a lifetime
to more forward on significant health care reform. We must pass this bill now, we absolutely can not afford to wait.
I look forward to going back to my district in August and tell the good people of Maine we didn’t let them down.”
chellie pingree
I hope it’s not done .. I refuse to believe it .. until it is actually voted on
i know.
i keep calling and harrassing and shaming and calling too.
and I will until the very end.
but the shit’s done. you can tell.
And if it fails? .. what will Obama say? .. cause according to Rahm .. that would be the worst of both worlds
i don’t know what he’ll say or what he’ll do.
and by the way, despite my negativism, I’ve been calling and writing and complaining just as much as anyone else. if nothing else it gives me something to do, someone to yell at.
i just don’t think we’re gonna get anything good, since we’re just ordinary people and don’t own enormous banks or insurance companies.
Right now I’m seeing ads on tv, but they’re ads for healthcare reform and against insurance companies. Don’t despair quite yet.
The Canadian tumor woman has been on my teevee a lot.
Its time to take our bats and balls and head for home. We have once again been fucked by our own party.
If this is wat we are getting- to hell with them.
And, as far as the Gates disgrace is concerned- just take a look at the picture posted on Kos.
Health Care Reform? BULLSHIT!
Diverting attention from things that really matter. The President’s statement hardly deserves this much attention.
