Okay, I think this takes the cake.
Yesterday, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) took the unusual step of requesting the House clerk to read aloud a 55-page motion to recommit, a process that took over 40 minutes. The obstructionist tactic, the Politico’s Glenn Thrush reports, appears to have been orchestrated by the GOP in order to delay House proceedings so Republicans could attend the annual “Boehner Beach Party” fundraising event at the Cantina Marina, a D.C. restaurant near the waterfront.
Here’s the invite:
They delayed the working of the House of Representatives for 40-minutes so Republican members and staff could go to a Beach Party-themed fundraiser for the Minority Leader. I don’t know if you can really do anything legal that can match that in offensiveness.
Fund raisers for republican politicians are extremely important to the future of our Nation. Congress actually accomplishing anything to benefit peons like you and I? Not so much.
…standard Republican/Conservative behavior patterns.
Since they believe government is a bad thing, anything that gets them out of the office is a good thing.
Too bad there isn’t a parliamentary procedure to cut short the reading of the Motion to Recommit, and move on to votes (while the Repubs are out partying)… That would have made great copy in CQ or The Hill….
$250.00 for a single actually seems on the low side. Perhaps the cost of Republican influence is reduced these days, like a number of other things.
Well .. Boner doesn’t have any influence at all .. unless he’s gonna bribe Blue Dogs
is it me … or did anyone else laugh at the Boner Beach Party tag? .. also .. Epiphany productions? .. oh brother!!
this is exactly why nothing gets done and will not get done with the republicans in congress. they do not intend to work for a living. they want to party, sleep around and create hateful things. they are working on my nickle an d I do not appreciate it that they have to party during working ours. I could give a shit what they do after hours in fund raising…but this in on my nickel and I am very angry about this.
I don’t know if you can really do anything legal that can match that in offensiveness.
Well, you could massacre civilians in Afghanistan. Oh, wait, those are just brown people. Nevermind.
