(exceot for the final exam I have to take this morning…)
I got the job I interviewed for 2 weeks ago, and the offer letter is coming this morning! It’s 4 days a week (M-Th), from now until December, with the possibility of extension beyond that if business allows. Plus, I can still do my freelance work with their blessing.
More importantly, we go the Outer Banks tomorrow! 🙂
Now that we have our little snafu mostly worked out (see the open thread on the front page), I’ll get out and take some pictures to post. 🙂
CBtE went to another beach with a friend instead of coming with us this year, and CBtY brought a friend with us instead. He caught the first fish this morning, and was delighted because he’s only been fishing once before.
And of course, CBtE called us this morning, homesick and wanting to go home from his trip. Good thing I have someone staying at the house with the dogs, so he can…
I’m so glad to say that so far our summer isn’t sharing that with you. No drought here this year and it’s been cooler than usual (well since the spate of 90s in June).
I broke mine twice – once with a baseball bat (I was crouching a little too close to the plate as catcher) and once in a bike accident. My middle son broke his showing off in the house and had two black eyes for months…and then of course my daughter broke hers getting hit by the truck. At least now it’s back in the center of her face, 8K out of pocket later, courtesy of Cigna. Bastards.
Hey, you have the baseball bat in common with my sister! That was break number 2 (number one was turning around to talk to a friend and then turning back around just in time to walk her nose into a lamppost).
But your family is definitely ahead of mine in the broken bones department (and I’m certainly willing to let you win this one).
My girl is by far the main reason. I mean noses aren’t really bones, but she broke her arm in two places, several bones in her face and also that little inconsequential vertebrae.
With three boys I never thought she’d be the rough and tumble one.
Good morning!
A quick hi and bye.
Sitting here with curly at the library in the town nearest to us – just checking mails.
Young asklet left alone at the cabin – swimmer arrives from Italy tomorrow night.
I’m still short of breath, and have hacking fits (and because of the hacking my throat feels like I gargled with steel wool).
But then I have asthma, and getting rid of chest infections always takes extra long for me.
Oh, and apparently swine flu, unlike the bog-standard varieties, causes lesions on your lungs. Woo hoo. I figure I’ll have crawled out of this oxygen-deprived well in another week of two.
Other than that, life’s not too bad. I had six assessments last week, and some more graphics work to do this week. Who knows, if I earn enough money I might even be able to afford private health insurance (as opposed to Australia’s socialized heath care, which has waiting lists of months, if not years, for some procedures [welcome to what the “public option” looks like when grossly underfunded]).
I haven’t gotten a business name yet. Thus far I’m just operating under my own (despite the fact that no one can pronounce it). I just picked up an assessment on Monday morning, and I have another that needs scheduling some time next week. If I can average five assessments a week I’ll be happy.
Now, if i could only stop trying to bring up a lung – it’s damned annoying.
I’ve got my first nursing home visit tomorrow after three weeks off. I’m taking Lily (which means bathing her first). I’ve also got an appointment with the optometrist, seeing as the frame of my my glasses broke the other day. I’m not quite to the bandaid repair stage, but close. As if I need any more help looking like a great big dork.
Me too. It’s the worst part of getting sick for me, the long recovery period. It usually takes the better part of a month before I’m back up to speed (which is slow enough at it is).
Good morning, Andi and ID!
A quick trip to the local library again for wifi.
Very bad news this morning. A ship – at anchor – waiting for the pilot, broke the anchorage and drifted upon skerries in a freak, unseasonal storm over night. Large oil spills. This is literally only 5-6 miles away from the cabin. Fortunately for us, this happened downwind from our location – but it is a disaster for local recreational areas, as well as bird and wildlife. Several beaches destroyed. Clean-up started, but difficult due to high winds.
Found no English link yet, here is one in Norwegian with a number of images.
after a chaotic, three stooges-like series of events, my boy and his two friends are finally beginning their 10 day trip to Belgium, Amsterdam and Germany. And I have the house mostly to myself, except for the critters.
I hope they get to Bruges; as far as I’m concerned it’s the best thing in Belgium — fascinating medieval town (and Jim thinks that the dark chocolate swans I brought him back from there is the best chocolate he’s ever had.)
Love the picture up top!!!! I wish I had more time to be here and chat with you folks. I miss you lots but life is so busy right now that I am losing my mind in a good way.
The rent and utilities are paid for a year. I can say I am officially not homeless any more!!!!! The efficiency apartment is larger than some one bedrooms I have rented in the past. I am lucky and so excited!!!!

What are you all up to?
So glad that all your news is beyond excellent.
Perfect way to start a vacation.
Great news! Have fun at the beach! We have some of Mrs. ID’s family here for a visit.
Our county fair starts next week and I’m hoping the cool weather stays around for that.
Yay you!
(I think I stayed at the motel).
Congratulations CG, on the job news and the end of your exam! Have a great time … 🙂
Congratulations! Great news, CG! And have a great trip!
chirping in with my CONGRATULATIONS!! I’ll try not to break the blog in your absence [mwahahaha]
I’m sure everything will be fine with a set of keys in your capable hands! 🙂
Free at last, free at last.
Wonderful, wonderful.
Have a great time.
Perfect time to post some pictures.
Hope you have great weather and a great time.

I’m glad your car disaster (or CBtE’s homesickness) isn’t messing up your vacation.
Can’t wait to see the pics.
Drive by hi. It’s getting dark here, like evening is coming on. More storms. Ugh.
Ugh. It’s actually hot here, unlike PA has been this summer.
Everybody feeling all dewy fresh this Monday? Yeah, me neither.

How about waterlogged? <raises hand>
Uh-oh. That stuff usually hits us after your finished with it, doesn’t it?
Given how often our weather ends up becoming your weather, I’d say it’s pretty unusual for you to get weather from the north.
Oh, it doesn’t dip down onto you goes before it comes to us? I knew I should have paid more attention in my 9th grade science class.
It’s your geography class that needed more attention. 😉
Ottawa is a good bit north and east of me so it would take some very, very freaky weather to get to olivia before it gets here.
🙁
(basement still — mostly — dry?)
How about hot and dry?
I’m so glad to say that so far our summer isn’t sharing that with you. No drought here this year and it’s been cooler than usual (well since the spate of 90s in June).
I’m at home today with the boran2 boy. He managed to break his nose at camp yesterday. ER last night and off to the doctor shortly. See ya later.
Oh jeez. How did he do it?
He was playing a ball game, fell, and another kid fell on top of him. He’ll be taking a few days off, if not more.
“He’ll be taking a few days off, if not more.”
Poor parents too. Aren’t you due to go on vacation soon?
At the end of August. He is having ambulatory surgery Friday and should be okay by that time.
My sister broke her nose twice between the ages of 12 and 15 and I think the only lasting result was a nose with real character. 🙂
Ouch!
Well, it’s 47 years since that last break — I think she’s over it. 🙂

That’s what you get for giving her a boy’s name. 😉
Yikes! Poor guy!
Ouch – poor boy!
Hope he recovers quickly.
Ouch! Too bad. I caught a very buoyant surfboard on mine once when I lived in Florida. My face would thrum every time I bent over for weeks after.

I hope you are having a wonderful time.
Reminds me of the old “fly United” ads.
Even all these years after high school, I can’t get used to hearing Blues Traveler being played in remote places like Okracoke.
Here in the coffee shop they’re playing the Hook.
Hey BooMan, They’re going to be performing live over here is south central Indiana in a few weeks.
Drive by good afternoon!

I’m sorry you’re still not doing well.
But glad to hear your new business is off to a good start. BTW, what name did you finally decide on?
I haven’t gotten a business name yet. Thus far I’m just operating under my own (despite the fact that no one can pronounce it). I just picked up an assessment on Monday morning, and I have another that needs scheduling some time next week. If I can average five assessments a week I’ll be happy.

Glad to hear that at least some of your life is going well! Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Me too. It’s the worst part of getting sick for me, the long recovery period. It usually takes the better part of a month before I’m back up to speed (which is slow enough at it is).
Feel better soon!
I’m sorry it’s hanging on so long. That must be awful. Hope you’re totally recovered soon.
Oh, YUCK! I hope it clears up soon, and decides to leave your poor lungs without any lasting damage.
The theme this week is Random so no excuses for not posting a picture.
Olivia will post the diary later this morning.
Good morning Andi! Lovely dewy morning after a drizzly evening.
Definitely. And the woods were full of gorgeous streaky light too.
Good morning, Andi and ID!

Good morning ask! That is very sad news indeed.
Oh no…that’s terrible. I hope all of their expertise can minimize the damage.
That’s awful ask … yikes, what a mess to clean up.
Sorry to hear that. I hope that it can be cleaned up.
How awful. The pictures just break my heart.
Oh, that’s awful. I hope they’re able to contain the spill and clean up the damage quickly.

that was one of the few things they actually scheduled…they have a hostel there for two nights. The rest of the time they’re winging it.
If you talk to them, you can tell them I also highly recommend Leffe Bruin (Belgium beer). 🙂
I have a feeling that three 19 year old boys will have the beer portion of the trip covered. Now on to Amsterdam….;)
When I was working in Belgium, one of the women I worked with was an ex-pat who lives in Amsterdam. She absolutely loved it.
Mmm. Belgian beer + Belgian chocolate = heaven.
we owe everyone pictures…
Yes you do. And it’s a random Friday Foto Flogging so you can assuage your guilt by posting one or two pics for us there. 🙂
You’ll have to wait until I go take some this afternoon. :::hangs head sheepishly:::
Uh huh. Esp those of us not vacationing or getting any sun … 🙂
We’re spending the day with family in Cincy. Hope everyone has a fine day. And hope this evening finds you feeling much better, keres.
Ta.
Love the picture up top!!!! I wish I had more time to be here and chat with you folks. I miss you lots but life is so busy right now that I am losing my mind in a good way.
I wanted to share some photos of my new home!!!!!
