Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I feel like I still have chores left over to finish this week. Probably because it’s CBTE’s 17th birthday Thursday, and I am so not ready yet.
I’m looking forward to the long Labor Day weekend coming up, how about you?
It feels weird to think that my first baby is almost a grown up.
He’s deviating from the usual Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting and going for the Pink Lady Cake instead. The chocolate and peanut butter cake they made me for my birthday was also under consideration. 🙂
Sorry about the calendar confusion, I’m just feeling like I need to plan further ahead now that I have an office job.
You should take every opportunity to refer to him as “my baby” this year, especially in front of his friends but even in front of total strangers. He will appreciate it.
The pink lady cake looks good. But you really can’t top a chocolate/peanut butter combination.
I understand about the office anticipation. Our office has no paid holiday between New Year’s Day and Memorial Day, so there is a lot of anticipation for Memorial Day. After that they come pretty regularly.
Ha! I never even SEE my kids let alone receive cakes and other goodies from them. I’m seriously thinking of doing the whole Jewish mother thing on them.
That’s a good start but don’t forget to let them know how much you suffered giving birth to them. Reminding on them of all the places you’ve schlepped them is good and most of all, remind them of all the times they could have showed you that they loved and appreciated you and didn’t.

Wow, 17th birthday. Aw Mom, he’ll be all grown up and leaving home before you know it.
Yep. Time to start over… 😉
I’m off to the salt mines…see you all this afternoon!
17. wow. It’s like the last birthday before he’s really an adult. What kind of cake does he get? 🙂
I had to go look at my calendar because you got me unnecessarily excited that Labor Day was this weekend.

I’d save the ‘my baby’ tactic for when he graduates from college and decides he can leave cheaper at home.
The my baby tactic is not limited to one use. 🙂
Good point.
Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and chocolate ganache is a weekend cake…I can’t pull that off on a Thursday night. 🙂
yeah. that whole work thing gets in the way.
What kind of a self-respecting 17 year old guy wants a Pink Lady cake? Send it to me instead….:)
Hey we all must support subverting of the binary gender paradigm. (Translation: you ain’t getting the cake.)
I will stoop to any imaginable level in order to get someone to bake me a homemade cake.
Wouldn’t it be simpler to just bake yourself a cake?
Or guilt trip her kids into baking her a cake.
Or bribe them with beer.
I totally vote for guilt-tripping them into it. The Sky High: Irresistible Layer Cakes book should give them plenty of inspiration…

Oy.
I mean, what am I, chopped liver? Am I right? Eh?

Doesn’t Catholic come with a lot of guilt too?
Then again, “you’re going to hell if you don’t visit and bring me a homemade cake” doesn’t seem too effective…
Here’s Zion:
Lovely watching of the Watchman, b2. Did you go up the trail, too?
Not that particular trail. We’ve got that 10 year that seems to follow us everywhere. 😉
I was thinking that the Watchman was a trail he could handle.
Did you do the Emerald Pools? If you haven’t but are planning to do them, try going early in the day before the crowds.
Thanks. We did Emerald Pools and most of Pa Rus. We’re actually in Escalante now.
Wow. I’ve always wanted to go there.
I’ll be stealing this for a new cafe tomorrow (unless you want to post others, hint, hint). I have to run off to work now.
See you all this afternoon, and I hope everyone has a great day!
Go ahead. Shades of Abbie Hoffman of Steal This Book fame. 😉
I see a painting …
Heh!
Wonderful picture from one of the treasures of the West.
Thanks!
We’ve got very rainy with a chance of snow.
What have you got?
We’ve got pleasant temps and nice breezes, unusually nice for late August.
We’ve got lessening humidity.
And all downhill from here.

That’s it, make it hard for me to choose a picture for the next cafe…
(note the ungodly time that i am awake today)
No contest. Use boran’s.
Sorry for the early rising … but isn’t that how it goes for your working slobs? 😉
