Thanks to everyone who donated to the News Bucket this morning!
I am SO enjoying the cooler weather here today. I got to take my lunchtime walk at work without feeling like I’d melt before it was over, and we have the windows open and it feels comfortable without a/c. Bring on September.
I had the same difficulty (timeouts) Fri. night around 9:00 EDT. Couldn’t get EuroTrib either. By 11:30 it was working ok. AndiF said hers was working, although she had been forced into dialup mode because of the rain. I’m one of the lucky rural ones with DSL due to my 1/2-block-from-the-phone-exchange-building location;-)
Yeah, I thought when the Indiana General Assembly did its sweetheart telecommunications bill a couple of years ago, we were all going to get broadband along with ice cream and candy on Saturdays.
Tasmania is supposedly getting broadband first, as part of a new national fiber optic scheme. But I’m betting my little hamlet is not high on the list.
I’d settle for ice cream on Sundays. Or, water. Or natural gas. Or any other utility we don’t get out our way.
We have all that cool public socialist stuff like water & sewer since we moved into town. I don’t take it for granted, having grown up with an outhouse and pitcher pump in the kitchen sink. The Sunday ice cream is nice too, but so far not provided by the phone company. Any wind generator projects planned for Tasmania? There are some wind farms being installed at the northern end of Indiana.
Oh yeah, sewer. I’d forgotten there were such things. We’re working on a greywater recycling system and plan to switch to a composting toilet. That way we can finally ditch our ancient and foul septic system.
Tasmania already has a large wind farm. And one of the buildings on the Hobart waterfront just got permission to put rotors on its roof. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned that it’s very windy here. Imogen and I will probably buy a wind generator at some point.
Just stopped in to say ‘Hey’. Not feeling well today, actually most mornings.
Hey, CG… the weather here upstate is cool indeed. The past 2 mornings going out to feed my horses I actually had to bundle up! In the 40’s this morning.
I’m feeding my hummingbirds extra sweet nectar this week as they will be heading off South within a few weeks. This year’s babies are adorable… buzzing the feeders and each other with playful abandon.
Hey, we had a nightmare last week with a swarm of jellowjackets. There were thousands upon thousands of them… none of the bee guys believed it was yellowjackets, they all said honeybees. Found their way into upstairs wall. Had exterminator last Fri, still finding dead and dying bees in the house. Yuk. Hubbie carries an epipen for jellowjacket allergy and that is quite scary.
K, be good everyone.
Hi Nag! I’m sorry I missed you, and that you aren’t feeling well.
I’m a little envious of your need to bundle up in the mornings, though. I love it when it’s cold enough to wear a sweatshirt and the air feels crisp.
I don’t envy you your bees..ick! It reminds me of our friends who have been dealing with a bat infestation problem. 40-something of them have been chased out of their eaves, and counting. I wonder what these freaky pest problems mean? A hard winter?
That makes me think of the Black-chinned hummingbirds that used to come to my feeders in NM. They’re very social and eight birds will easily use a four station feeder. Four will drink while four more wait just an inch or two from the sides of the ones feeding. Then, they’ll trade-off – with none of them actually aiighting on the perches. Except for the babies. They’ll park themselves on the perch and feed for all their worth. Even to the point of head-dodging and -bobbing (while holding their ground and not letting go of the perch) the other birds that get impatient with them.
My imagination is so very weak. If only someone would invent a way to capture amazing scenes and then someone else could invent a way to share them with the many people who aren’t there. 😉
Well, this ‘vacation’ has been involuntarily long due to my dispute with prior employer. I’ve been back down at the cabin the last 2 weeks – mostly preparing my case. But the surroundings are great.
The weather has finally cooled off here. It’s a delightful morning for CBtY’s first day of high school.
And with that, I’m off to work this morning. See you all this afternoon!
(ps, if I pst a news bucket on the front page, can you all help fill it up?)

If I could, I’d send you the sleet we had yesterday.
Today is the official first day of Spring in the Antipodes (we use the start of the month instead of the solstices and equinoxes).
At least the sun is out this morning. I heard on the radio yesterday that this winter was the wettest on record since 1954.
I’ll need a few months to work up to the sleet thing, but thanks. 🙂
I wasn’t able to get BT to open this w/e – spec. Saturday. Just hung up and timed out. Anyone else notice anything?

Yeah rub it in. I’d sure like to see some of that broadband stimulus money be spent in Brown County.

Hi and bye! See you this afternoon-

Sorry you’re not feeling well, Nag. The yellowjacket story is wild!
Well darn Nag, why are we always in different dimensions?!?
I hope you feel better soon. And no more vast swarms of flying stinging things come your way.

Oh, and feel better Nag.
Greetings from Sedona. We were up in Jerome today. The view was amazing.
My imagination is so very weak. If only someone would invent a way to capture amazing scenes and then someone else could invent a way to share them with the many people who aren’t there. 😉
Smartass.
It seems so…
it’s a one trick
asspony. 🙂This week’s Friday Foto Flogging is perfect for you — the theme is Vacations.
Well, this ‘vacation’ has been involuntarily long due to my dispute with prior employer. I’ve been back down at the cabin the last 2 weeks – mostly preparing my case. But the surroundings are great.
If you’ve got to do something ugly, it is definitely nice to be able to do it in gorgeous surroundings.
Well, most of my write-up is done.
I’ll be in the US again next week.
I hope it will be as nice to be home here as it is to be home there.
Well I’m off for my morning walk. Have a good rest of the day.
I was wondering about that. I hope everything goes well on your return.
I’m sure the extra few weeks are much needed.
Bye CG (off to woods). Hope you have a good day at work (only two more days till the long weekend).
Or one, as the case may be… 🙂
So there goes the axiom that nobody loves a smartass (’cause I know the dogs love me). 😛
hahaha! 🙂
As a matter of fact such a device has been invented but wonky wifi makes things difficult for that new-fangled contraption. 😉
The Red Planet Diner in Sedona, where we ate Wednesday night:
Yes, the hotel wifi cooperated tonight. 😉
Excellent. Now I want a cherry coke.
Not exactly the amazing sight of something red I was expecting but still way cool.
I’ll try and post some red today.
Very nice…perfect for our new cafe, in fact. 🙂
