Welcome to Friday Foto Flogging, a place to share your photos and photography news. We were inspired by the folks at European Tribune who post a regular Friday Photoblog series to try the same on this side of the virtual Atlantic. We also thought foto folks would enjoy seeing some other websites so each week we’ll introduce a different photo website.
Website of the Week: Volcano photographs. Photos from Hawaii and Ethiopia by Patrick Koster.

Bridal veil falls, on the road to Prince William Sound, Alaska
Nice sweeping vistas but the falls is my favorite. I was surprised at first that it wasn’t the one in Yosemite. Then I started wondering how many Bridal Veil Falls there might be in states. I found additional ones in Utah, Oregon, North Carolina, Colorado, another one in California (near Lake Tahoe), New York (part of the falls at Niagara), Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Arkansas. And then I got tired of looking.
Yep. It seems like I’ve seen a dozen Bridal veils myself. The road to Prince William sound has quite a few falls. I seem to remember a “Horsetail” fall there as well. And if that was enough to make it worth the drive, even in July you could find patches of snow that had stayed in the cliff’s shadow and never melted. They just begged to be played in.
Your and Olivia’s posts are pretty durn purty. The Smokies look much as I remember them. And Olivia seems to have a knack of finding very cooperative insects. Mine all get out of focus faster than I can get them in.
I’ll second Andi and Olivia’s. Your no slouch yourself! The pano’s are terrific.
You are the Bird Whisperer; Olivia is the Bug Whisperer.
Ahhh.
And who or what do you whisper, sunbeams?
It’s not necessary to whisper at something that’s yelling “hey stupid, over here!”
And yet they do come to you in seeming abundance.
I have my doubts about your coarse translation. Hummingbirds, OTOH, swear like sailors.
Huh, so does Sniff — of course he’s a mutt but I’d never thought before about his being a cross-species mutt.
Andi gets up early for sunbeams so we don’t have to;-)
The icing on the cake, in my opinion … 😀
lol!
I’m w/ Andi, love that falls shot. Wow.
Occasionally we’ll hit the Gainesville area for the museums.
Alachua Sink, Paines Prairie
Foot of Turtle Mound, Canaveral National Seashore
That butterfly is gorgeous!
You’ve got some pretty good panos on offer yourself.
But I just love that scary jaw.
The tanks in the jaws is too funny.
My last few posts have been recent vacation photos, so these go back over the last 5 years:
Summit Lake, in the Tahoe area (I was trying to get a nice reflection on the glassy water):

Male lion at the San Diego Wild Animal Park sitting on top of a Range Rover in his enclosure:

Several from Ireland:
A river in the Wicklow Mountains:

Ruins in the Wicklow Mountains:

The Rock of Cashel:

Hore Abby (yes, that is really its name):

The river shot in the Wicklow Mountains is just gorgeous — wonderful mood. And love the lines in the Abbey shot. A really fine set of travel photos. I’m ready to go.
The Abby shot is looking down from the Rock of Cashel. In the photo, it almost looks like a miniature to me… I can’t quite explain why… something about the focus, maybe. I had just gotten the camera, a “prosumer” model with a 12x zoom and didn’t really know how to use any of the more advanced features, so I just took my shots on the default settings, and that is how it came out.
The river shot is at Glendalough, home to the ruins of Saint Kevin. I was standing on a pretty narrow walking bridge and had a really difficult time getting the shot without other tourists walking in front of me or hanging into my shot.
Love that river dusted w/ snow — gorgeous! The Ireland shots are lovely. I’d love to visit someday.
The river in the Wicklow Mtns is a really muddy brown as the water comes out of the peet bogs. If you don’t know ahead of time that it is a river and don’t look closely, the shot almost looks like a road. My one regret about that shot is the drop of water on the lens in the lower right (it was drizzling at the time).
Aer Lingus is the way to fly to Ireland… they are Ireland’s answer to JetBlue, but fly internationally, too. Of course, the exchange rate was a little better a few years ago, so tickets might not be as cheap anymore. Plus we flew in November, so that contributed to the low prices, and also explains the snow.
With car park attendants like that, I’m betting break ins aren’t a big problem.
definitely a stay-at-home summer this year, with a lots of time spent chillin’ in the ctyd…usually with a cold one close at hand, listenin’ to the silence…the original alternative.
planning to continue thru the labour day weekend…skoal
Lovely. It looks so inviting … all it needs to be perfect is Bu.
she’s usually around…even has her own chaise…:{)
it’s just to the right, out of the frame.
Awww. Now it is perfect.
Very beautiful dog.
Beautiful space to spend the summer. Looks very cozy and cool.
That looks like a great spot to relax.
The last sunbeam.
I sure wouldn’t mind being there, watching the sun go down, being kept company with some good wine and bread.
That does sound great — I’m starving!
Lovely shot LEP.
I expect you can find both with ease right where you are. 🙂
🙂
she never takes me anywhere
Awww – poor baby! Our cats have the same complaint. The only time you take us anywhere, it winds up being that scary vet place with all the dogs yapping!
You cruel thing, how could you refuse those eyes anything!?!
This year’s vacation went into a remodel job for Mrs. ID’s office, but not long ago, we spent a few days wandering up the Mississippi.

Epicenter of the Great Earthquake of 1811

Our randomly selected B & B at Cape Girardeau turned out to be the home of the local Dem party chair. We swapped tales and exchanged bumper stickers. The porch column upper trim was quite unusual.

I loooove that deep front porch.
And of course the old Coke relieves fatigue..lol.
That place had a lovely old antique bar and delicious barbecued ribs.
Looks like a nice trip, ID. I really like the building in the bottom photo. Lots of style and good detail.
And still in pretty good shape having been severely flooded several times before the flood wall was built.
What a beautiful b&b … Looks like a great place to spend some time.
It was very peaceful & quiet when we were there. St. Louis the day after was quite a contrast.
One of the famous Sedona buttes, though I’m not sure what this one is called. We just left Sedona this morning.
Gorgeous place. Even though the vistas are splendid, our favorite hike in the area was the West Fork of Oak Creek.
Hope you have a safe and uneventful trip home.
Actually, I believe that this is the back of Bell Rock.
Gorgeous!
My photobucket is messing with me.
I’m uploading images and get the message 1 of 1 (or 5 of 5 for that matter) images uploaded, but they do not appear in the album. Previously, I could go to the option ‘classic uploader’ (I always had the described problem with the new one) – but that option is nowhere to be seen anymore.
Any suggestions?
I had this happen to me awhile back. I rebooted and it went away.
If that doesn’t work, you could try a different browser. If you’re having trouble with Firefox, try IE. If it’s IE, try Firefox.
Thanks, it worked!

Old Blue Eye Stalks

Wow, I’ve got plenty of benny. Which is good because I can’t get enough of that blenny of mine.
Blenny and Pipi in one shot … 😀
Last day at the cabin this year (yesterday)
Compare with these from a couple of weeks ago:

Torrential rains on returning to Oslo last night.
Its a lovely view despite all the cloudiness.
What an excellent payoff for giving you advice that worked. 🙂
This is my favorite of the shots you posted of the view. I love the intense greens and soft color of the fog and clouds.
Glad you liked it!
Note; it’s not fog – it’s heavy rain hitting the water surface a quarter mile away (which soon thereafter hit me).
Beautiful view.
Thanks.
It’s my favorite place and this year I got to spend 5 weeks there (2.5 x 2). Even the kids love it there in spite of their very urban upbringing – or, maybe because of it.
