I spent my late afternoon watching the Michigan-Notre Dame game. It was simply an amazing game. Back and forth, several lead changes, and a heroic finish for the Maize and Blue. Can’t ask for more. Michigan State, on the other hand, set a new standard for choking. Mainly, though, I’m just killing time before my beloved G-Men take the field at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon against the hated Washington Redskins. I think the Skins are way underrated. The only position where they are a bit weak is quarterback. And their quarterback isn’t that bad. It should be a real challenge for the Giants, whose defense is a bit dinged up.
And, of course, the USC-Ohio State game is about the begin. That should be a good game, too.
You and Oliver Willis should get together re: the ‘Skins… If I read Oliver rightly, his view of the team is pretty similar, but has (IMO) a lower opinion of the Q-back, and little confidence they’ll do anything constructive about it just now…
I was in my car, in and out, this afternoon, so I listened to the Michigan-Notre Dame game on the radio – it was terrific.
Nearly watched Florida State lose to Jacksonville State today. I didn’t even know there was a Jacksonville State. Apparently we haven’t played them since 1947. I didn’t even know we had a football team in ’47 (possibly because we like to pretend the pre-Bowden days never happened). We pulled it out, 19-9, late in the 4th. I don’t think I would’ve been able to stop myself from chucking the television out the window if we’d lost, given what happened against the ‘Canes last week (although it was a great game).
Dolphins-Falcons tomorrow starts the NFL season for me. This is the nice part of the season, when we all get to entertain our fantasies about this being the year. I’ll take solace in the fact that the ESPN crew has all predicted the Fins winding up 2nd or 3rd in the AFC East, because the ESPN crowd is always completely, laughably wrong. I’m thinking they go 10-6 this year. Beating New England for the division again would be nice, though.
I’m glad O-Fail State lost and Michigan won. FU, Jim Tressel.
night football. Da Bears and Da Cheeseheads. GO BEARS!
HAIL TO THE VICTORS!
George McGovern For President!
Didn’t McGovern bash the unions last year saying there was no need for EFCA?
yes he did. but it wasn’t about “need”, nor would l call it “union bashing”… as he put it: “I oppose this legislation respectfully and with care“.
he has a valid point, vis-à-vis secret ballots.
Good morning.
My season starts with the Niners going to Arizona. The Niners haven’t gotten (or earned) any respect all decade. This is the beginning.
I hope.
Meanwhile, how about those Cal Bears?
And don’t forget The Bruins. May they have a much better season than last year.
