Here’s a few links to mull over with your Sunday morning coffee and cider donuts or brunch…
Things are going swimmingly in Iraq, with over 130 dead and over 500 wounded in the latest bomb-fest. Tell me again when we’re getting out of there?
A helping of stupid from the NYT…I’m trying to remember similar articles about the Bush WH. Can you? I know I wouldn’t be too worried about not playing basketball with the guys from work.
And then there’s this week’s flap about Jessica (feministing.com) Valenti’s wedding, and her response to the attacks on her feminist cred as a result. What a shame that anyone would have to explain choosing to marry someone in a ceremony that meant something to them. Leaves me wondering why can’t people just say congratulations and good luck to the happy couple?
What have you been reading this morning?
Wait, you’re telling me a feminist got married? My whole worldview has just crumbled.
Just lazily surfing around this morning.
Headline says it all:

nice links – planning to visit the fjords someday!
That whale video was cool.
wow! that is astounding footage, especially the underwater shots…which were all done free diving. what an amazing experience, not to mention dangerous as hell.
Bad link on “her response”…I assume it’s at Feministing?
I don’t think I even want to read the criticism. How utterly stupid.
yeah, bad link!
It’s fixed now…I went out right after I posted and didn’t see it till now.
Gosh Booman, I’ve always thought you were a feminist. It’s just about equality ain’t it?
I was kidding.
reading the stupid article about the Obama white house. I guess Hillary doesn’t count [morans!] and it doesn’t matter what Valerie Jarrett does – she’s too influential but also doesn’t count. Try to convince anyone that there’s a male-centered environment when everyone sees Barack’s relationship with his family Michelle, Sasha and Malia and everyone sees Hillary’s strengths in the admin. wish the NYTimes had used the column space for a substantial, indepth article about Bo the dog and his birthday party.
I have always felt a disconnect when reading about feminism. I really have no idea what people mean. I don’t even know how to discuss it.
Equality? It seems that in an equal world a person should have the wedding/relationship that fits them. But conversations at places like feministing always seem to devolve into people telling others what is the correct way to ‘be’. And lots of complaining about how unfair life is. You live in a place like that, then don’t complain when someone tells YOU when they think you are being patriarchal.
Like I said, I don’t even know how to discuss it.

“I have always felt a disconnect when reading about feminism. I really have no idea what people mean. I don’t even know how to discuss it.”
Feminism is why young women these days aren’t questioned on their birth control or plans for a family while being interviewed for a job – which happened to me back in 1965. I also walked in my first day on the job to be told by my supervisor that I’d been hired over his strenuous objections because I was female & he wanted his department to be all men who wouldn’t be leaving to have babies. There’s still a long way to go, but we’re slowly moving on the path to equality.
Her breasts do not seem very prominent in those photos.
Anyone know where Bill Clinton is?!
Joking.
.
Topic got coverage in 2006: Bill Clinton meets bloggers.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
I’m actually kind of pissed. GF-R had a spat recently with Althouse on Blogging Heads where Alty flipped out when she referenced it… and Garance wilted like a dead flower. It was embarrassing to watch her cower like that. If The Garance hadn’t been long broken I would have ripped into her after I saw it. It was quite a spectacle especially since Garance sounds like a bimbo (she’s isn’t, it’s just the accent).
Doesn’t she work for the Kaplan Test Prep newspaper now?
Also because CabinGirl’s link was circular:

Thanks!

The sooner you get out of there the sooner Iraqis will be able to get down to the business of healing themselves and their country.
I totally agree with you. We never belonged there in the first place.
Yes, and in addition to being the cause of the ongoing internecine violence, the U.S. has caused far more destruction, devastation, and carnage in Iraq than Iraqis could ever cause.
When I hear that the U.S. government has condemned the recent bombings, I feel like throwing up. The hypocrisy is just too much to bear.
Whining about Obama not playing basketball with women is just people looking for something to whine about.
On a lighter note,

And if he “hand-checked” or “bodied-up” the women while playing basketball then he’d be Bill Clinton Jr.
