- “I told him: Dear, we all want to be Shahids. He said in this entire world I can’t think of anyone to marry. I don’t think of any girls of this world to marry. I want to marry the Dark Eyed (Virgins or Maiden of Paradise). I said if these are his thought, I wish him Shahada. He would always dream of Shahada, it was his first and last goal in life.”

Wonder how this story of his liking of lap dances and strippers fits in too?

Apparently the NY Times also covered this in their print edition story on links between Nidal Hasan and a cleric but edited out of the online story.

Indeed, I linked to a faux news item above. The contradiction of sexual frustration in not finding a partner and a cultural priority of marriage and establishing a family. In comment from his cousin in Ramallah he states: “Hasan’s opposition to being sent abroad was as much because he was planning to marry.” Is this a coded description of anticipating heavenly delights and meeting virgins?

Hasan has been looking for a wife for a few years. On NPR last night, the Muslim chaplain at Walter Reed said that Hasan had approached him for help with finding a Muslim wife who would support his work in the military.
The owner of the convenience store that Hasan visited on the day of the shooting said that Hasan was a regular customer and that he would ask if the owner went to Friday services and if he could fix him up with a wife.

Would appreciate a few links to Internet sites with information about Palestinian Culture and Tradition. I understand family life is a high priority. Hasan clearly wanted to start a family.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
goes back to my point about his losing his parents – devastating for someone who doesn’t have his own family and next generation for a grounding context. previously, imo, his life with his parents would have been his family life.
