Do you get the feeling that if all else fails to kill the health care reform bill the Republicans will start pulling the fire alarms and phoning in bomb threats? Maybe Sam Brownback will throw a stink-bomb.

maybe we can convince orrin hatch or joe lieberman to self-immolate.
No, we’ll get anthrax attacks. Do you remember that mysterious event?
Dick Cheney will appear and state that health care reform is a threat to our national security.
Republicans using threats of violence? You’re not suggesting they give up their signature political tool of Pretending To Be Really, Really Stupid® are you?
Nope. They are already praying. Brownback, DeMint, Bachmann, Tony Perkins, James Dobson, and a bunch of entrepreneurial evangelical pentecostal homophobic loonies had a prayer meeting asking for God’s intervention to save America, which has so lost its way as to want healthcare reform, which will fund abortions, create death panels, and extend the hand of big government into dictating unholy sexualities…
Is 60 a quorum? That might be the only thing preventing the Republican caucus from just walking out.
And Gawd hath sent a mighty ice & snowstorm. Lieberman has rushed home to get stuck in Conn. Could Nelson find himself grounded at the airport? Could a significant number of Repubs be isolated by ice in NoVa? If all the progressive/liberals spent the night in their Senate offices and had a quorum of 51 votes, we could have Medicare for All(TM) by Saturday afternoon!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican senators say they’re ready to do everything in their power to delay action on the Democrats’ health overhaul bill — including requiring lengthy amendments to be read aloud on the floor.
Senator John McCain of Arizona accused Democrats of violating President Barack Obama’s promises of transparency by finalizing the sweeping health bill behind closed doors.
McCain said Friday that given the secrecy, it’s reasonable to demand changes to the legislation be read aloud. That could take many hours and jeopardize Democrats’ goal of passing the bill by Christmas. But for Republicans, that’s exactly the point. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Republicans had no intention of expediting passage of the legislation.

"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
MoveOn has come out in opposition to the Senate bill.
I have a question. If this bill passes with the needed 60 votes for cloture, isn’t it possible to come back in the new year and pass a bill or two under budget reconciliation like:
Both of these bills would save the government huge amounts of money and bring down the cost-curve for all medical costs, so they would be eligible as budget reconciliation measures. Seems like these would be popular enough to get 50 votes apiece. They could (hopefully) be passed pretty clean, as part of budget reconciliation. All the other stuff that can’t be included under reconciliation is already included in the ugly bill we’re looking at now.
I wonder if, to keep the liberal senators on board and quiet right now, if something like this is being talked about quietly until this bill is behind us.
Any thoughts?
