For a new year and a new decade!

AndiF on January 1, 2010 at 8:10 am

Continued from the last cafe …

Your new years sounds very nice (and sweet). We had a very nice new years too. We have a “tradition” of getting together with my older sister, her husband, and one other couple and having an easy-going evening of talk and food. Jim and I are the youngest so as soon as midnight hits we’re all ready for bed.

Is that potential distraction giving any hints he wants to get started on being one?

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on January 1, 2010 at 8:16 am

Sounds like you had a nice evening too.

The potential distraction is riding really low today (sorry if that’s TMI).  Maybe a nice New Year’s walk with the dogs will push things over the edge.  I think I might need a nap first, though.  ðŸ™‚

We still have a coating of snow on the ground from yesterday, even though it was raining last night.  I’m thinking it might be a little icy this morning, but I’ve been too lazy to go out and check.

        • AndiF
AndiF on January 1, 2010 at 8:24 am

Maybe if you ask him really, really nice …

It’s really cold here but there’s no snow. I guess I’ll go bundle up and take the dogs out for and a walk. Then we’re heading up to Indy to visit with my mom and my younger sister and her husband (who are visiting my mom).

          See ya later.

Happy New Year to all! And new decade! (Yes, I know that technically the new decade actually starts on Jan. 1, 2011–but 2010 feels more like a new decade.) It’s a quiet, peaceful morning and my cat’s keeping me company as I type. He’s gotten clingy in his old age–he’ll be 16 this year.

        Happy New Year Louisiana!

Our old puss is now 20 something and likes having a human companion in the same room. She prefers this box for her throne; something about the sides must appeal to her, since she has the choice of the soft sofa with blanket, or box. She has been untouchable except by Mrs. ID the entire 20 years she has lived here. All others, including me get a nasty hiss and scratches if we don’t watch ourselves around her. With Mrs. ID, she is deceptively lovey.

I’ve had two cats and a rabbit like that.  I was the only one who could touch them.  At least the cats just left when approached by others, not so the rabbit.

I used to warn people away from the cute little lop bunny by asking if they had ever seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail? One of my Pyrs, who had lived all her life in the same house with the bunny, one day forgot herself and put her head down to check on the rabbit, and then pulled her head up with a chunk missing from her nose.

Fortunately our current lot are all friendly, with only four of the five ducks unwilling to be picked up.  Even the chicken lets us pick her up for a cuddle.

    Happy new year, ladies.

This year I’m going to try to become one of those people who sets goals and tries to attain them.  I think that would help. 🙂

This song’s for you, Cabin.  Boys are SO MUCH FUN.  Because Moms (and grandmoms) are so needed in an unpredictable life – here comes the son, rated PG13:

It’s going to be a wonderful year!
My resolution – don’t get complacent.

Organizing, ignoring cookies, looking for excitement.  How about you?

Same old stuff, not even any weather to speak of.  My year started with a full 8-hour span of sleep, a big surprise for a geezer. No fuel involved.

Hope everyone made it comfortably through the night.
Too many latkes w/sour cream and salmon roe in my case…
A well, netflix has provided 3 episodes of Sopranos – starting now.

CabinGirl on January 1, 2010 at 10:48 am

Good morning! I don’t know about where you are, but it’s a wet morning here, so the Sopranos sounds like a good way to spend the morning.  CBtE is still asleep and CBtY is over at a friends, so we’re having a quiet morning here.

      Those latkes sound good.

Our cloudiness dissipated during the night & brought sunshine this morning along with a 12F temperature. I think maybe I might prefer the rain as long as its warmer. I’m glad I’m not at work listening to stupid wingnut comments like, “Where’s that global warming?”

I took care of grandson, 3 last night and we had lots of fun….I woke up at 11:55 to see the ball come down in Times Square.

I saw Sherlock Holmes, which was good.  I normally see maybe one movie per year, but I have been thinking of dragging myself to see It’s Complicated.  Is it worth the sympathetic glances I’ll get going to a movie by myself?

If the time stamps on these threads are correct, CG had a lightning fast labor and delivery in a little over six hours… unless “going for a walk” was code for “OMG, I’ve been having contractions since last night!” LOL!

    • Second Nature
Second Nature on January 2, 2010 at 10:34 am

lightning fast delivery = someone else’s delivery. 🙂

      • sjct
sjct on January 2, 2010 at 10:52 am

Actually, I speak from experience: My daughter only took six hours from the first noticable contraction to her first cough. And it was like lightning… surging thru my body in ungodly streaks of fire. Fast does not equal easy.

        • Second Nature
Second Nature on January 2, 2010 at 10:56 am

Yeah, I think my shortest labor was the most painful, and scariest, because there wasn’t really any warming up period.

          • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on January 2, 2010 at 11:47 am

I went from 2 cm and thick (not effaced) at 4 pm to born at 6:12 pm, and found it way more intense than my 6 hour labors with the CBs.  All you can do is hang on and hope it’ll be over soon – there’s no getting into a rhythm or anything.

Hope everyone’s comfy  coy this evening.

Up here on the hill, the wind roars so continually through our trees that it sounds like the ocean surf. Current wind chills are probably down to about -20. That’s about 50 degrees below freezing.
No end to the outrageous wind in sight for us, on the year’s first weekend.

Hi CG. I like the image of the burrito baby. You can do different food wrappings every day. Tomorrow he can be a blintz baby, the day after that a cannoli baby, then a perogi baby, after that a samosa baby, then a tiropita baby, and then … sorry, I gotta stop before I put on too much weight. 🙂
