“I’m very proud of the job I’ve done and the results delivered,” Dodd said. “But none of us is irreplaceable. None of us are indispensable. And those who think otherwise are dangerous.”
I’ll miss Chris Dodd. He is one of the good guys. For the most part.
He saw the handwriting on the wall and got out. Smart man.
Dodd is far from perfect, but I have yet to understand why CT Dems dislike him so much.
If you wear the White hat, you have to be as clean as the hat. Any spot of dirt becomes that much more visible.
IMO, that’s what killed Dodd’s chances—once CT voters got it in their heads that he was listening and dealing with the banksters, the assumption was that it was to the detriment of the constituents.
In a constituency the size of CT, that could be fatal…
He helped sink the Iran-Contra investigations. There’s something funky about him. I won’t miss him.
When I think of Dodd, the first thing that jumps to mind was sitting in the very late hours one night in mid-2008 and watching him on the Senate floor while he tied together all of the years of lawless actions by the Bush administration with the provisions of the pending FISA bill and the telecom immunity.
It was a stirring and very compelling speech. He starkly demonstrated how all of this shared a common thread in destroying the rule of law which was supposed to govern this country. I had a hard time getting to sleep after listening to it. It was a masterful speech.
I’ll miss Dodd, but he’s wrong: Michael Steele is indispensable.
I can’t help wondering if what tipped the balance in Dodd’s mind was the rabid attacks he got from the left. Did we do it to ourselves again?
Whatever, Dodd was one of the good ones and for the most part a real progressive. And he proved you don’t have to be a scumball just because you’re from CT.
He was the chairman of the banking committee and the favorable treatment from Countrywide looked bad. I bet if Corzine had stepped down we would have had a better shot at keeping the governorship in NJ. Kind of the same thing with being seen as too close to the banking mess.
two years ago. I think the people of Connecticut might be a little pissed off about that.
He was featured in Michael Moore’s film re the Countrywide loan. THAT is what sunk his chances.
But you can’t blame it on Moore. That was already widely6 known(meaning the Countrywide mess). Besides, he is far from the only one that get special treatment. it looked bad for Dodd because he was he head of the Banking Committee. His one big fault(and the same goes for Barney Frank) is that they are patsies for the banksters.
Dodd is 66 this year. For the Senate that is not to old. Might he be a candidate against Lieberman in 2012?
I’d sell popcorn for that matchup.
I’d LOVE to see that – it would be even cooler if the caucus would let him keep his old seniority for removing that PITA.
Oscar! Congrats on your upcoming marriage! I just saw your site – very cool!!
Mrs. ID and I send our congratulations and best wishes! What a handsome couple you are!
Oh yeah–the website is the absolute coolest. Very, very well done!! Lots of “Krimson & Kreme.” π
And using Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love”…PERFECT.
Those are the colors – I told her that I have that one request, the rest can be done however she likes. She found that agreeable, and we’re making it happen, finally.
LOVE that. The wedding should reflect both of you. I’ve never understood the “just tell me when&where to show up” mentality of a few guys. Maybe you don’t want to handle every detail, but a wedding should be “our day” and not “her day” because she’s not marrying herself!
Then again, that may be the difference between “guys” and “men.” π I am so absolutely happy and excited for you!
congratulations oscar! both you and your lovely lady.
Congratulations! Looks like it was worth the wait. π
Congratulations to you both, Oscar! You make a beautiful couple.
Congrats Oscar!
Oh, I’m so excited for you, Oscar! Congratulations to you and the future Mrs. Oscar!
Congratulations to you both! I’m so excited for you!!!
Babies. Weddings. Love it!! I think I’m already loving this new year…!!
Thanks everyone!
Wonderful news, Oscar. All the best to both of you.
I hope Dodd continues with his work getting banks to act responsibly; he may have more clout in this last year of his work than he has had before.
