After lunch today, I walked out of the building to get a bit of fresh air. Our offices are built on a southern slope above the village and from that vantage point we may gaze down upon the miserable teabagging slobs beloved constituency who pay their periodic tribute taxes so that we bureaucrats humble public servants may continue to live in the grand style to which we have become accustomed protect their interests from the lawless hordes…
…but I digress. What I really wanted to announce was that there were leaves! Lovely new pale green leaves on the maples, oaks, poplars and beeches all across the valley. I didn’t notice them on the way to work this morning. Its like they jumped out just before lunch. March 11th and there are leaves, fer chrissake!
You’ve just reminded me that we must head up into the mountains soon so that we can catch the splendor of fall colors on the sweeping stands of Nothofagus gunnii. Plus, you know, mountains.
We chatted with some friends on Facebook in CA and kazakhstan, then fell asleep. I had to leave on time this morning for a company meeting, so I didn’t get to check back in.
I’m a little behind the eight-ball at work this week, and looking forward to getting back on track. This baby and work thing is hard to juggle. Especially because the baby is what I really want to be doing with my time, not the other way around.
Good morning!! The weather here has been glorious the last few days and is suppose to be much of the same. The trees are starting to bloom and it is a beautiful time of year.
Been dealing with medical appointments and all that jazz. Not always the easiest thing as we all know. LOL
I finally switched doctors because I’d wait 45 mins in the waiting room, and then another half hour naked and wrapped in a paper gown in the exam room. Stressful.
Speaking of wrapped in paper, my comment about Finn looking like a thanksgiving turkey was meant to be cute – apparently people on the front page thought I was being mean. :/
We had one that did that to us when CBtE was little. After one too many tantrums after the wait, and the doctor acting like there was something wrong with my kid for being unglued after an hour and half wait, we moved on.
I wasn’t offended, I tease Finn about his little chicken wings all the time. Just need me some wing sauce, and I could just eat him up. 🙂
I’m so glad the week is almost over. I just want to stay home and be Finn’s mommy. The career thing has never been the be-all end-all for me, and it’s safe to say it never will be.
Umm, I think maybe you are suffering a slight hallucination, probably caused by a lack of gooey goodies in your life. I prescribe a trip to a really good bakery as a cure.
The great thing about having more work than you can possibly get done is that it means that there’s no need to beat yourself up trying.
Jim’s starting spring vacation and the next week is full of things that need to be done on weekdays that we can’t do when he’s in school so I think we’ll try to keep it quiet this weekend. Might go to Cincy though — it’s going to rain here all weekend too.
Good morning!
Getting ready for moving to Geneva. A 5-month assignment finally came through. Good to get back in the saddle after a year of unemployment.
Well, it may still work out. I’m planning at least 2 trips to NY during the assignment – no dates set, but probably early May and mid/late June. When are you here?
I’m hoping its between the second and third weeks so I get to see you too. I may have to go to Barcelona earlier in the month…I’m actually hoping I don’t because of the baby.
Well senior moment for me. I thought I already posted a comment to you. I hope my geezer brain can manage to remember to plan a vacation — when you’ll be back from Spain (if you go) of course.
I have always wanted to go to Barcelona, but this year I have other things to occupy my time. My boss doesn’t want me to go, my account people do, we’ll see who wins that argument. Unfortunately, I think the account folks are right…
I’m looking forward to your visit. You’ll have to give us a review of where else you’re going, because we think that we’re going to do a New England trip this summer (the CBs want to do something other than Ocracoke this year).
Oooooh, go to Barcelona if you get the chance! Its a wonderfully vibrant city, or was some years ago when we visited. Try to see some of the Gaudi architecture, there’s just nothing else remotely like it. The little pickled octopi we saw seemed popular, but very chewy. One bar we were in served them a tentacle per serving, sliced from the little critter as it perched atop a pedestal dish on the bar.
LOL! I’ll have to take a photo of the wine carafe Mrs. ID received as a going away gift from the people I worked with in Zaragosa. I’ll try to get that posted soon.
Hi CG – Barcelona,eh? Well it’s easy to understand your conflict, but you couldn’t ask for a more fun city (except of course Amsterdam ;))to visit. The food, the culture, the shops, and in June – there’s even the beach. Ask and I spent a most delicious afternoon eating paella and downing Spanish wine at a wonderful, out of the way, beachfront restaurant. And as far as tapas goes – there’s El Irati – right off the Plaza Pi for tasty tidbits – I even spent a few afternoons there on my own and it was a friendly, international crowd. Bring Finn – it’s a very child friendly town – maybe Booman friendly too.
Hi Errol,
Just arrived safely in Geneva, can’t afford to stay unemployed so I’ll be here for the next 5 months, or so.
BTW – note discussion above on getting together in NY when Andi and Jim F visit in the second half of June. Hope you can join.
I first spotted some green on this old soft maple from the front door of our building a couple of days ago. The light was lousy after work yesterday, but maybe you can still make out the clusters of new growth popping out all over.
I’ve found some trees with buds but that’s all. We’re going over to Cincy today; maybe I’ll see some leafing out over there — cities and towns always seem to leaf out before the countryside (I guess it’s the additional warmth radiated by the buildings).
or good evening, in keres’ case. 🙂
I thought I’d put up a new cafe while I was up with Finn. How’s everyone doing?
Good. Imogen is in the kitchen making a salad from our home grown (and very sweet) cucumbers for dinner. Yum.
Sounds good. Did you finish it off or are you going to share it with us?
It was 68 yesterday — t-shirt weather. So I am doing fine.
Hope you and Finn went back to sleep and are having a nice long nap.
68 degrees in March! Amazing!

When you do – pictures, please;-)
Enjoy!
Well damn! I was at the library today and I didn’t spot any leaves. And there sure aren’t any leaves in the woods.
Maybe this is something that is only visible to you
creeps who steal our hard-earned moneylofty elected officials.lol!
From the Pack: Pay no attention to her. She’s just jealous of both your vast power and your leaves.
I may try for photos, weather permitting, on my break time, of course.
From the forecast it sounds more like weather-permitting but definitely hope to see some — you can post them in the flog as “building up to spring”. 🙂
It was pretty late when I left work and the light was nearly gone, so couldn’t get a set for the Flog, but there’s a teaser below.
We chatted with some friends on Facebook in CA and kazakhstan, then fell asleep. I had to leave on time this morning for a company meeting, so I didn’t get to check back in.

I hope all your appointments went smoothly. I hate when you spend most of the day waiting for your turn at the MDs office.
I finally switched doctors because I’d wait 45 mins in the waiting room, and then another half hour naked and wrapped in a paper gown in the exam room. Stressful.

:::heavy sigh:::
Every time I see that photo there is a nanosecond where my heart leaps because I think it’s a fancy chocolate dessert frosted with sugar.
Mmmm…yum.
First we’re being teased unmercifully for days with fresh strawberries and now sugar glazed chocolate! Its too much, I tell you!
Umm, I think maybe you are suffering a slight hallucination, probably caused by a lack of gooey goodies in your life. I prescribe a trip to a really good bakery as a cure.
Fishing in Australia’s north may be hazardous to your health.
Ack! I can relate, having fished inland Florida when I lived in Indian River County. Never had a gator get that close, though.
ANd a happy Friday to all!
I can’t see it but I’m sure Friday is out there somewhere — the fog was so thick that when I let the dogs back in, I could barely see them.
It’s pretty foggy here too. I think it’s supposed to rain forever this weekend. Looks like it’s getting an early start.
I have more work to do today than I can possibly manage to get done. I hate starting the day off that way. 🙁
What are you guys doing this weekend?
The great thing about having more work than you can possibly get done is that it means that there’s no need to beat yourself up trying.

This week’s theme is Buildings.
Olivia will post the diary a little later this morning. So don’t watch this space, watch the “Recent Diaires” over there —->
Good morning!
Getting ready for moving to Geneva. A 5-month assignment finally came through. Good to get back in the saddle after a year of unemployment.
That’s great news, Ask!
Well except for my self-centered disappointment that now Jim and I won’t get to meet you if we come to New York in June. 🙁
Well, it may still work out. I’m planning at least 2 trips to NY during the assignment – no dates set, but probably early May and mid/late June. When are you here?
We haven’t picked a date yet. Definitely not the first week, probably between the second and third weeks.
I hope it does work out. But I really am very happy for you.
I’m always up for another visit to Sweet Revenge, hope we can somehow coordinate dates – and let’s drag boran2 into the city as well.
Sounds good! Congratulations on the assignment!
Given CG’s comment below, we’ll try to time it for the second half of the month.
And Wilderness Wench said she’d try to come too so there’s another incentive for all of us. 🙂
That would be great if ww came. And maybe we can convince Mr. Gilroy to come by. Try to post your dates early so everyone can plan accordingly.
That sounds like a fun gathering. Count us in, complete with Finn!
please count me in, look forward to meeting the rest of the crowd, not to mention the cutest baby Finn
I thought you had too…maybe we’re both geezers?
I have always wanted to go to Barcelona, but this year I have other things to occupy my time. My boss doesn’t want me to go, my account people do, we’ll see who wins that argument. Unfortunately, I think the account folks are right…

The Gaudi is one of the reasons I’ve always wanted to go there. Plus any culture that would do this has to have a weird sense of humor. 🙂
LOL! I’ll have to take a photo of the wine carafe Mrs. ID received as a going away gift from the people I worked with in Zaragosa. I’ll try to get that posted soon.

If I go, the boys have to come too. No way am I leaving a 5 month old for the better part of a week.
I’d really rather just take a vacation there…
Congrats on the assignment. It’s a good feeling after a long period of unemployment, isn’t it?
Thanks, and yes – it’ll be good to polish rusty skills.
Good morning ask and congratulations on the new assignment! It sounds like a wonderful opportunity.
ask, you are moving again???
Hi Errol,
Just arrived safely in Geneva, can’t afford to stay unemployed so I’ll be here for the next 5 months, or so.
BTW – note discussion above on getting together in NY when Andi and Jim F visit in the second half of June. Hope you can join.
I expect to be here and look forward to joining the get-together. Only a slight chance I’ll be out of town!
I first spotted some green on this old soft maple from the front door of our building a couple of days ago. The light was lousy after work yesterday, but maybe you can still make out the clusters of new growth popping out all over.

The maple is between the log community building and log jail if you want to stand in proximity to the new growing stuff.
Thanks for the leaf location. I’ll try to remember to check it out when I take my books back to the library.
Wow, that is early. Lucky you!
No more rain in the forecast. Hope there’s nothing but blue skies for everybody else.

It’s gray here with some light rain but expected to clear. 60s by Friday/Saturday. Woohoo!
