The Australian magpie is Imogen’s favorite bird. She had a pet one in her teens named Claude (a female, actually). They raised it from a fledgling but it refused to leave when released.
Magpies haven’t been on our property before this year, but we seem to have a family group of about six now living in our valley. We’re hoping they stay and keep singing for us.
No expensive pet toys in our house – anything “throw away” (or recyclable) will do.
Oops. One of the top two images should be this one instead:
That last picture does a brilliant job of capturing the immense the satisfaction for a job well done.
Great images, keres!
However: is that more properly a toy box or a box toy?
?
Six o’ one . . .
Too funny and cute. Reminds me of Billy the Beagle and Peko the Chocolate lab. Their favorite toy in the world was an empty plastic drink bottle. Size did not matter. LOL
She’s almost a week old and very active at this point, although she still sticks very close to mum. I’m allowed nose to nose “kisses” if I behave myself.
Congratulations! She’s beautiful.
Listen to an Australian Magpie.
Now that the snow has all melted here, the Pack has a bigger and better toy box … and full of great smells!

Ooooooo. All those things that died in the winter are now a free from their insulation blanket of snow. It’s like a party in their schnozzes.
Yep — we even found a dead goat the other day, which was a first for dead critters in the woods.
Ahhhhh, to be a dog.
They actually weren’t all that interested — I think it was just too much hair. But now that it’s uncovered, I think it will get into a more palatable condition pretty quickly.
Nature’s just one big digester.
Another gorgeous early Spring image, Andi!
Your pups really are so fortunate –moreso than many humans, in general terms of joy, I’ll bet.
This image shows how.
