it was a bad day on the Supreme Court but I note that Sonia Sotomayor continues to take the progressive view. It looks increasingly like she will be the most progressive of all the judges on the Court. She came out early on questioning whether corporations should be treated like people, and she hasn’t let up since.
Kagan, on the other hand, is going to be harder to gauge. On national security issues and civil liberties, I see her as a potential problem. But she’ll probably be to the left of Breyer on most cases.
See here for why today was a bad day at the Supreme Court.

Under U.S. law, it is a crime for any person to provide “material support or resources” to a designated FTO. Known as the “material support” law, 18 U.S.C. § 2339B has become a cornerstone in U.S. counter-terrorism efforts. Since 2001, the U.S. has charged approximately 150 defendants with violations of the statute, and to date approximately 75 people have been convicted.
The statute defines “material support or resources” as:
“any property, tangible or intangible, or service, including currency or monetary instrument or financial securities, financial services, lodging, training, expert advice or assistance, safehouses, false documentation or identification, communications equipment, facilities, weapons, lethal substances, explosives, personnel (1 or more individuals who may be or include oneself), and transportation, except medicine or religious materials” (emphasis added).
Just wondering when the Kach and Kahane Chai will be incriminated by the Patriot Act. (Designated as a FTO by U.S. State Dep’t)

Don’t tell me US foreign policy is based on a double standard!
(Todays Zaman) – Most people relate the Israeli presence in northern Iraq with the idea that Israel supports the PKK. But Israeli companies and (former) security personal have been working in northern Iraq to train peshmerga forces, not PKK terrorists.
Furthermore, there is no doubt that Israel does not want to see the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in power. They would no doubt love to see the AK Party removed from power.
A clean break for Israel
