I’ll leave it to someone who is, you know, black, to respond to Jeeny Beth Martin and Jeff Meckler, but I do have one thing to say. You should read Tim Wise’s comprehensive list of white racist activities since Obama was inaugurated before you dismiss the NAACP’s declaration that the Tea Party is inherently racist. I understand that it is frustrating to be accused of racism if your only complaint is about policy. But racism is alive and well in this country. And it cannot be dismissed.

Am almost beginning to feel sorry for the word racism itself, it is definitely getting overworked and I can’t remember a time when I saw racists marching and waving hideous signs about all the while calling everyone else racist. At least in the ’60’s the thugs knew who they were.
The problem with racism (and why it persistent) is that it is an assumed reason that justifies discrimination in treatment, opportunity, and rights under the law.
The Tea Party racists don’t want the freedom to hold their racist beliefs; they’ve had that for years. They want the freedom to discriminate against minorities (and women) in employment, salaries and wages, housing, education, health care, and criminal justice.
And that’s why they are trying to get folks confused about what is and isn’t racism. To them, pointed out their preference for white privilege is racism.

Jealous was all over the interview circuit yesterday pointing that out but they kept putting him up against black debaters who shouted out that the NAACP was calling the teaparty racist. He just couldn’t talk loud enough.
it’s sad that he has to water it down like this.
I know tea partiers, and they are total racists through and through.
And yet, that’s how it works for the bigots. You question their actions and associations and they immediately jump into defensiveness, screaming ‘you called me a racist!”
Then, they proceed to spew all kinds of vile, absurd commentary that “proves” you’re the real racist.
Nice how they pretend to be defending black conservatives against the NAACP.
Nice of POLITICO to give them a platform from which to attack the NAACP, too.
How dare you. They’re not racists. That the CEO Jesus in his mysterious wisdom exalts mostly white people is an inscrutable part of the divine plan. But it’s completely possible that this or that hard-working african-american could be visited by the holy ghost of entrepreneurial spirit, if only those godless academics don’t interfere and disrespect divine authority.
I love Tim Wise.
If I could give him an honorary black person’s badge, I’d bestow it on him.
