It seems like I get a little caught up on sleep, and it’s time to go back to work before I get caught up on household chores. I’m feeling forever behind the 8 ball lately…
Maybe this little break from the 90+ degree weather will help with all that.
Its county fair week here. It’ll be hot and muggy with lots of political activity at the grass roots. The 4-H kids have delicious fried potatoes and corn on the cob for sale. I hear the tea baggers have an information booth this year. It will be interesting to see what they’re selling as well.
It took 4 hours to down some fair food and make the round of one exhibitor tent and the 4-H foods & crafts building. I had hoped to recon at least one more exhibitor tent, where the enemy lies entrenched, but that will have to wait for the next sortie. It would have been foolish of me to attempt to infiltrate wearing my Democrats tee anyway. A suicide mission for sure.
The weather has cooled considerably and it was pleasant to be outdoors for a change.
Tomorrow night – a 4 hour shift deep frying fish sandwiches to help pad the fall advertising budget.
I’m seeing an effort to reach out to voters that goes even beyond the 2008 election cycle. Tonight we had the local Democrats sharing space with OFA and the IN-9th Congressional District, wooing any and all who passed by. No lack of enthusiasm here. We started house to house canvassing over two weeks ago. The 9th District people are leading that effort.
Sounds like a very pleasant evening – and it’s good to hear that the efforts to connect with voters are still ongoing and meeting with great enthusiasm. I’m hoping that people are sick of the Teabagger-No party and we don’t lose as many seats as some have predicted.
Love to attend the Lancaster, NH county fair on Labor Day weekend. Lots of great animal events and hang out at the dem. booth, chat with Paul Hodes. I think he is waiting for Kelly Ayotte’s campaign to implode, that’s why he’s not really campaigning yet. Sarah P endorsing her is not helpful in NH as NH voters hated her. hah!
I’m off on Friday…we’re heading to CT to a music festival for the day, and then after we spend the night, we’re tentatively planning to stop in NYC for cupcakes and pho on the way home.
I am dying for one of those vietnamese sandwiches again. And I can have a cupcake this time: it seems that Finn’s intolerance for cow’s milk has gone away. woo-hoo!
The dentist was easy. Trying to convince my mother that she doesn’t need to save social security notices of cost of living increases from 1989 or credit card statements from 1992 — now that was painful.
Still on her own. I think she’d be happier in a place with lots of people around but she doesn’t want to give her place up. And given the awful housing market, that’s probably just as well.
Glad the dentist was easy! The other, oh boy, with my mom the piles grew higher as she grew older. I’m bad about that too. Never know when you’ll need that old invoice from the oil change for the car you traded in 15 years ago, y’know.
leaving next weekend for Nebraska, via rt 70 and rt 80 I think. Still working out plans, but mini meetup with fried biscuits and sassafras tea sounds irresistable!
Where are you now?
This image is taken from just in front of the veranda of the cabin (summerhouse is really way to pretentious – cabin, no plumbing). curly took it last summer.
South coast of Norway.
back in NY/NJ now – so much to do in the next 3 months, get tired just thinking about it and have to lie down on the couch to recover from the thought exhaustion. A stint on a lake in Finland is the antidote, however, if I ever finish all I must do in the next months. maybe summer ’12 if I can tear myself away from the Obama campaign.
Hi everyone! got to internet a few times on part 1 of my travels and enjoyed updating on the cafe. Northern Europe is having an unbelievable heat wave, like NYC – heat with no rain – except the heat is worse. They’re expecting crop failures. climate change imo, let’s hope it is reversible.
Our county fair ended last night & I’m pretty well exhausted. Its the largest informal political event of the year. I lost most of my voice by Tues. night closing, but managed some croaking yesterday. I think it may be a little better this morning, but Mrs. ID is still snoozing, so I don’t know for sure, haven’t had the need to try it yet;-)

Careful Andi, if they get a taste of fried biscuits, they might not go home. Come to think of it, there are a lot of nice cabins available scattered about the woods…

I’m picturing one of those paper cones filled with steaming bullshit.
Aimless anger on a stick.
“Information” is probably stretching things a bit.
I think Second Nature probably nailed it pretty well.
Sounds very interesting… we’ll need a full report from the front lines. 🙂
I hope some of the mugginess has gone away for you folks. Today was a nice summer day here.

Good news on the enthusiasm and effort. I hope that’s a trend that holds on to November.

Now to make it through the work week.
Give Marlo a jug for us if she’s working when you make your cupcake stop.
A “jug”?
Decaf this morning – can ya tell?
Make that a hug.
Send some virtual cupcakes our way.
Have fun. You can have give Marlo another hug (or a jug if that’s your preference) from me … bring me some carry out from Pho Sure.
What would you like? 🙂
I am dying for one of those vietnamese sandwiches again. And I can have a cupcake this time: it seems that Finn’s intolerance for cow’s milk has gone away. woo-hoo!
The sandwiches are an excellent choice — I’ll take two. 🙂
Double woo hoo. It was so tragic watching you watch everybody else eat their cupcakes.
Well I have an early dentist appointment and then I’m off to see my mom in Indy.
See ya later.
Safe travels, and I hope the dentist isn’t too painful.
The dentist was easy. Trying to convince my mother that she doesn’t need to save social security notices of cost of living increases from 1989 or credit card statements from 1992 — now that was painful.
Oy. That does sound painful. Is she in assisted living, or still on her own?
Still on her own. I think she’d be happier in a place with lots of people around but she doesn’t want to give her place up. And given the awful housing market, that’s probably just as well.
Glad the dentist was easy! The other, oh boy, with my mom the piles grew higher as she grew older. I’m bad about that too. Never know when you’ll need that old invoice from the oil change for the car you traded in 15 years ago, y’know.
Hey, that’s a historical document. Never know what the archaeologists and historians of the future will find important!
Exactly!
Hi Errol. Are you still traveling or are you home now?
leaving next weekend for Nebraska, via rt 70 and rt 80 I think. Still working out plans, but mini meetup with fried biscuits and sassafras tea sounds irresistable!
I hope it works out. Indianadem and I will delighted to have you come visit.
Ah … I should read the all the new comments before asking questions that have already been answered. 🙂
If you can’t get over this one, you’re in big trouble.

Very cool photo!
Thanks. I don’t think I’ve ever seen (or at least noticed) water drops throwing such long shadows.
Good morning!
Hah – running to catch a bus to the airport.
Vacation time – 2.5 weeks at the summerhouse coming up.
Kids arriving Saturday.
Have fun! You’ll have to post a photo of the place.
I head back to school in less than 2 weeks.
To finish my thought:
So telling you and the kids I’m envious would sound like whining, but I am so envious.
Finished now; I think.
Hope you have a great time and great weather … and take lots of great pictures which you post here. 🙂
where is the summer house? lakes and swimming? mountains? enjoy!!!!

Always good to have some restful, if unrealistic, plan for the future
looks like lakes and swimming and mountains! very smart country that Norway!!!
Oh boy, a preview. 🙂
Oh, that look wonderful about now. Looking forward to more. 🙂
Speaking of travels, did you get your cupcakes and pho?
We did! But Marlo wasn’t there (we stopped in the mid-afternoon on our way home.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting my cupcake fix, though.
Well the cupcakes were the important thing. 🙂
A beautiful spot! I’m envious.
Does anyone else miss Omir’s little froggy?:(
yep
Yes. And Omir, too.

Meeting with new teacher today. Math workshops all next week. “Meet Your Teacher Night” on the 12th.
Things are starting early. Good luck with that.

Nice pics and also nice that the weather broke a bit and gave you better temps for all that outside work.
It does bum me out, though, that I have to want Hill to win.
Yep, chances of getting a progressive elected this year in southern Indiana = slim & none. Andre seems to be doing well up in Indy, tho.
Looks like fun!
Fun, but also exhausting (and fattening)!
… at the speed of light.

I can’t believe Monday is already here again. But now I get to start counting down to my vacation (which starts on the 13th)!
What are you up to this week?
Speaking of your travels — are you still thinking you might get down this way?
Careful Andi, if they get a taste of fried biscuits, they might not go home. Come to think of it, there are a lot of nice cabins available scattered about the woods…
Though we probably shouldn’t mention that the cabin probably won’t have any internet access and the cell phone reception will be iffy too.
Oh piffle, the biscuits trump everything else!
I’d like one with a nice screened-in porch. On a stream. With mountain views. 😉
Sounds great – stream for fishing, or pretending to fish while enjoying being by the stream?
I don’t fish but my 11 year old does.
Ah yes, the mountain streams of Indiana, where unicorns prance under rainbows all day.
How about some nice green hills, a creek and a couple of possums?
I finally saw Marlo’s ad. Cool!
It is cool but there’s something about it that just cracks me up too.
beautiful! looks like a soothing place to be!
Thanks — maybe on one of your subsequent trips, you’ll have time to come down and see for yourself how soothing these woods are.
Yes! I look forward to it!
