Welcome to Friday Foto Flogging, a place to share your photos and photography news. We were inspired by the folks at European Tribune who post a regular Friday Photoblog series to try the same on this side of the virtual Atlantic. We also thought foto folks would enjoy seeing some other websites so each week we’ll introduce a different photo website.

Previous Friday Foto Flogs
Good morning everyone. It’s been a slow summer in terms of pics and an even slower summer in terms of posting pictures here and elsewhere. But I’ve got some to put up so here we gooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I made it to PYT for the Foursquare (cell phone social media thing) swarm event at The Piazza in North Philly for a free concert with Need To Breathe as well as Ok Go and popped off some shots of the show (1st band, anyways), grounds and general area of town:
I started the day, however, talking a little morning walk through Fairmount Park and later, driving up to North Philly:
I’ve also got some shots from Tea Party “Uni-tea” event in Philly a couple weeks back. It’s was a rather weak brew but you can look at those here.
And then there was a trip to Lucy the Elephant in Margate, NJ.
Overall, there is new stuff in my photostream for anyone who wants to go back in time and take a look at my summer so far. It’s pretty uneventful and has been spent mainly going back and forth between my folks home in South Jersey and Philadelphia so there’s a number of Elliott pics and beach, pool and boat pictures but it’s always a hodge-podge of things in the end, isn’t it? ;p
Look forward to seeing other people’s pictures today!
Great set stand strong.
I look at your new additions to your flickr home quite often.
Always enjoy your photos, SS. I just passed your url along to family over in Moorestown, NJ so they could enjoy too! This time around, my favorite is the two musicians.
I love the second photo. The perspective, the slight tilt, and the solid splash of orange all work together gorgeously.
Great set, nice framing on the rock.
I like the contrast between the city shots and the woodsy ones. Great set.
Its county fair time in the midwest.
Exhibits
The midway
Grassroots politics
Visiting with friends
Rides
Fair food
Looks likes a good time was had by all despite the heat.
I especially like the night time shot of the midway.
That ear of corn is as big as the little girl. Love it.
Andi and olivia, yours seem especially nice to look at this time. The center (wheat?) shot with the darker background really brings out the droplet sparkles and olivia’s dahlias seem like delicate paintings.
Thanks.
It’s not wheat, just some kind of weed — but I love the gracefulness of it. Someday I’ll take one over to the nature center at the park and see if they can identify it.
Thanks ID.
Only one this time but hopefully you’ll think it’s a good one.
Forgot link to larger for detail.

Besides this one, I discovered “Ominous” at your website. Great shots! I plan to return there later today for a more thorough surfing expedition.
Thanks and enjoy!
Neat shot, Bob — making something visually appealing out of the beating that summer gives to plants.
Hi Andi,
Great shots as always and thanks. I’m just in love with sick palm fronds and what the weather does to them. The spots are a lack of potassium, which is common in Fl and the cracking is freeze damage.
Great composition.
Sunflower
Zinnia
90% humidity and hot temps + cold camera from inside the house = instant fogged lens
Butterfly eggs on Thai basil (good thing I checked before eating…but, alas, I had already picked it)
Zinnias are my favorite flower to plant. They are so forgiving of all sorts of neglect, provide lovely cuttings for weeks and the deer don’t seem to like ’em as forage. I love the little yellow stars in the center.
Clever way to take advantage of the yucky humidity. 🙂
Love the sunflower — it just seems to radiate right through the screen.
Lovely shots. How was the pesto con mariposa?
LOL
David Honeyboy Edwards, the top billing on the last night of our 15th Annual Fargo Blues Fest.
Honeyboy, 95, was just spectacular. He had great crowd rapport, and at the end if his session came to the edge of the stage to touch hands with his fans. It’s not often you get to see a man of blues history in the flesh.
Great shot, NDD!
Great capture. Amazing that he’s still giving concerts at 95 (if I get to that age, I’ll happy to just manage staying upright).
Hi everyone.
I`m running a bit late for this FFFF.
It was Teri`s 39th birthday yesterday (cough) & we went up in the hills for a little party.
This morning while doing the coffee & newspaper routine, Teri asked me how I liked the picture in the paper.
I wondered what she was talking about when she told me one of my sunsets was posted in one of the local papers.
Here`s a link to the paper & the image.

In more news out of Malibu,
The “A”
Here`s a link to the Giga Yacht, anchored about a mile off shore here in Malibu.
This is $300,000,000.00 worth of yacht & at 390 feet it is very impressive seeing it in person.
It`s not my style but some people like it.
Check out how ostentatious consumption can make you sick.

Happy Birthday to Teri and way cool (and way deserved) on getting your gorgeous picture in the paper.
Yuck on the yacht (but not your pictures of it).
AndiF,
Thank you & I shall tell Teri of your birthday wishes for her.
When Teri asked me if I`d seen my picture in the paper, my first thought was, “Uh oh, what have I done”, thinking it was a picture of me. I was caught completely unawares, since I`d sent that pic in, months ago. This is not the first time that that has happened, but in some past instances, the photos were actually of me, taken by someone else, & unbeknownst to me, at the time.
Is there a link for all of us folks outside the loop?
Love that sunset shot.
Thanks for the photo of the yacht. It is nice to see where the Bush tax cuts went since we know they didn’t go into creating any jobs.
JimF,
Thank you.
I have to mention, that we can`t blame this one on the chimp.
This yacht is owned by a russian industrialist banker.
Check the link for more pix & details, if you will.
I believe he anchored his yacht here to take a poke at Ellison, the owner of “ORACLE”, who also has a big yacht & lives right there, off the anchorage.
I`ll post a link to the coverage of this yacht, when the paper comes out on Weds.
This yacht is getting a lot of publicity, from what I can tell.
It is not my style of ship, & could never be.
I saw that after I posted. I guess our oligarchs can only aspire to be Russian oligarchs.
Happy “39th” to Teri & congrats on the photo news coverage! Your sunsets are always enjoyable to see.
Thank you Indianadem.
And thank you for reccing my past Gulf Coast series.
I’ve seen that shot before! 🙂
That ship looks like the new stealth destroyer the navy is building.
Hey BobX,
Just what we need, another weapon of mass destroyer.
Thanks for dropping in.
All the boat pictures (including all the sets above and below this one) are really a pleasure to look at. My favorite of all of them — I love the symmetry of the bridge, the perspective, the sunset reflected on the water, and the shape of the wake coming off the sides of the barge.
Wonderful photos. The first apartment (hovel) Andi and I lived in after we were married was about 3 blocks away from the Ohio River. For cheap entertainment, we’d often walk over to the river and watch the barges going by. I’ve heard that barges can be rented as a way to tour Europe. Sounds like a terrific way to see it.
As a mode of travel, boats, especially sailboats, seem to me to be surrounded by an aura of serenity. I like this series very much!
Those are gorgeous sunsets.

Amazing web shots, Jim!
Awesome web shots!
JimF,
I`ve never seen this kind of web.
Do you know the spinners?
I think the two in the bottom were spun by the same as the one at the top, one of the many varieties of Micrathena gracilis. Through July and August, they’re plentiful in our woods.
Olivia, beautiful pastel colors, and dof control.
Thanks Bob. Loved the spotted colour in the palm fronds.
