The place is overrun with crickets!  :::crickets:::

Well, the rain has passed and we are in for a lovely fall day here.  I’ll do some walking later on.

Good morning. Jet lag and up for a while already. So I wrote a little diary.
Good to be here – quality time with curly and young asklet will spend the weekend. Maybe we’ll also get to meet CG and crew.

          Hi!

My work has been crazy (I was at the office for 12 hours today), and I have an 8-hour conference that I have to call in to at 2 am this morning.  Unfortunately,  I think we may just be staying home after that.  I’ll email you.

          Off to read the diary…

Same here – the dreaded income tax deadline next Fri. looms. I’ll be making some time for the fish fry fund raising for my old fire company, though. That’s always fun when the weather cooperates. We even have a celebrity visitor every now & then. Guess who.

Ah the income tax. I used to watch movies while doing taxes to lower my stress level. got caught up with entire year of movies (but had to rush to get the correct postmark). Now have to alternate movies/taxes/movies/taxes because it takes too much time to watch while doing the taxes (i.e. I’m mostly watching the movies).

I wish he would have run for that Senate seat. After I left your office, I did go over and do early voting and I gotta say it did not bring me any joy to vote for Ellsworth.

Indianadem on October 10, 2010 at 8:10 am

Yeah, he and his son seem to be polar opposites. I never got to meet Marvella, so don’t know if Evan took after her instead of dad.

Ellsworth’s just a Bayh clone, isn’t he? Hold yer nose & vote once again, considering the alternative.

this is the Alabama political ad genre, like the guy with the horse and gun. Am I to believe AL state senate has a dem majority that voted this pay raise and repubs had nothing to do with it? donkey is cute though mostly seems anamatronic.

In case anyone was worrying about him, he’s fine.  His computer died several months ago and he hasn’t gotten another one.

Now, if there was only a way where a citizen could go to a place of many books and public computers and use one of theirs…

I was watching a program called QI, hosted by Stephen Fry, and he asked his guests to draw a kiwi, paying especial attention to the location of the nostrils.  Of course, I had to see if I could draw a kiwi.  Imogen says it’s a psychedelic kiwi.

      • keres
keres on October 11, 2010 at 12:56 am

A few types have stippled stripes of a sort – mine sort of got carried away.  You can’t really see kiwis in the wild, as they’re nocturnal and shy. I only really remember the loud snuffing sounds they made trying to find insects in the leaf litter.

I was attempting to draw something along the line of a Little spotted kiwi, which is a flightless bird from New Zealand.  We “saw” some when we visited NZ a few years ago.

Are you telling us that Switzerland doesn’t celebrate Columbus Day? (celebrated as Native American Day iirc in South Dakota). My theory on why it’s such a big holiday in nyc – it’s the only fall/ winter holiday that doesn’t require one to do anything except take a day off and either sleep in, or go away for the weekend and maybe go hiking and enjoy the still nice weather, no meals to cook, presents to buy, friends and relatives to arrange travel to or for, (of course no special football games to watch, which some might consider a downside). For a while I belonged to a professional group that met in CA – I recall being horrified that they were going to have a meeting on Columbus Day weekend one year; I tried to explain but the CAians had no idea what I was talking about.

          ..Switzerland doesn’t celebrate Columbus Day?

Nope, no trace of it. Of course, we get some locally flavored holidays instead, such as Jeûne genevois (and it has nothing to do with youth).
