Pity the cherry blossoms.
As congressional negotiators pushed last-ditch efforts to agree on a 2011 federal budget and avoid a federal closedown, the National Cherry Blossom Festival announced that its annual gala parade, scheduled for Saturday along Constitution Avenue, would be canceled in the event of a shutdown.
Even though the bleachers along Constitution are in place and some parade-goers are en route, the festival said late Wednesday that the National Park Service could not honor the group’s parade permits if a shutdown occurs.
It seems to me like Boehner has boxed himself in. It doesn’t look like the Dems are inclined to lend him even a symbolic victory at this time. It’s almost like the Sun coming up in the East. When the Republicans take control of the House with a Democrat in the White House, the government shuts down.
Also, too, when the Republicans have a two-term president in the White House, the budget deficit balloons and the economy tanks.
Do the cherry blossoms bloom if no one comes to see them?
Boxed in:
For some reason, his comment just reminds me of one other place where they say the sun don’t shine. And coincidentally, it is the place where Boehner’s head is currently residing.
I hope that doesn’t explain his skin color. That would be…disgusting.
Hmmmm….maybe he’s just a fanatical carrot lover.
I shouldn’t read comments like that late at night. Now I’m laughing so hard I’m wide awake.

I could give a shit about their fucking parade.
I live in a city where nearly 25% the population’s on food stamps, and more than half of the adults read at the 5th grade level.
waaah, no cherry blossom party in DC. Poor dc assholes who make life miserable for the rest of us.
Give ’em their shutdown. Make it last a good long time, so it starts to interfere with the tea baggers’ lives.
What is the name of this city?
Make it last a good long time, so it starts to interfere with the tea baggers’ lives.
A good long time like what? Three days?
This is going to interfere with the ‘bagger’s lives right away. They just don’t know it yet.
For example, I hope all the ‘baggers who want to see the government shut down have already received their IRS refunds, because if there’s a shutdown the IRS is probably not going to be mailing out checks.
Does anyone know if Social Security is considered an “essential” government function that requires it to stay running during the shutdown, or if it shuts down when the government shuts down? If it’s the latter, some folks may not be getting their checks there either.
The ‘baggers have no fucking clue how much of their lives are touched by the Federal government.
my understanding is that social security is automated, but if the shutdown lasts long enough, it’ll have real problems continuing to mail checks. not sure where I read that though, so caveat emptor.
